How football changed

Comments

at 15:31 you question 'what was that?' - Thats the 'Athestone Ball Game', there's at least one video on your Educational playlist covering this called 'Is This Britain’s Most Violent Game?' I'm surprised you hadn't heard of Arsenal as I would say they are one of Englands biggest clubs. Interesting to hear what teams are commonly known though to a non-footballing individual in a different country. It's hard to discern exactly what a big club is, but its generally a mixture of success/history/facilities/stadium/fanbase/stature - and nobody will ever agree on exactly what makes a club big and indeed someone may disagree with anothers opinion on which clubs are big. But i'd say in England your top 3 are: 1) Man Utd (And I say that absolutely hating them as a Leeds fan - they are easily the biggest club in England) 2) Liverpool - very close to Man Utd in the big club stakes though 3) Arsenal The interesting thing about it is, I don't consider West Ham a big club, and I think most non-West Ham fans would agree, yet I would wager far more Americans have heard of West Ham over some clubs that are bigger than them, so an example of how tricky it gets.

Honestly great reaction guys; You took in far more from that than I thought you would. Important to remember that this video, I feel, is aimed at a UK audience that are already somewhat familiar with football as it is now and this is like a 'backfill' to compare what it used to be - so to take as much as that in rapidfire you've done exceptionally well. Reason I put it in the list despite what I said is I thought there would be bits that would give you a quick glossing over of concepts like Tactics, that would help should a 'deeper dive' video or videos into these type of things pop up. As well, there were SO many clips of Leeds United in here. about 98% of any of the teams in all white (And some of the ones in Yellow) were Leeds. The clip with the punching sound effects was the late great Franny Lee of Derby (in white) against the late great Norman 'Bites Yer Legs' Hunter of Leeds (Yellow) (Full clip here https://www.facebook.com/football70s80s/videos/derby-county-v-leeds-utd-1975/2289278084762821/) As well, at 4:22 there is a clip from a brilliant movie (Fiction based on fact - some people think it true and it isnt) called The Damned United, starring Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Colm Meaney, Jim Broadbent & Stephen Graham to name a few.
