what have the British ever done for us

Comments

I live a mile away from what was the Ford plant in Dagenham, it's virtually all gone now, only the diesel engine part is still there. I think that when I was a kid in the early 80's it was the biggest car plant in Europe, it had it's own fire station, medical centre and ambulances and I remember as we would go past it on the bus seeing rows and rows of all the new cars and vans waiting to be shipped out. They had their own railway line which connected to the main railways and went to the docks. There's 10,000 flats (apartments) being built there at the moment and the plan is to use the railway line to give them their own station. It's a big argument at the moment because the government agreed to it then pulled the funding.

Yeah Stevie will trigger more on this one. On the car side, it's a bit of a shame. Rover was really the last British manufacturer that made cars for ordinary people and some decent higher end stuff. Essentially our Ford. The short version is they were bundled into British Leyland and went under Government control... Honda were struggling to break into the European market, so a deal was done to jointly develop cars. The early ones were just Rovers with Honda badges and the Hondas didn't sell well. It shifted to the opposite though and Rover eventually died after BMW acquired it. They were only interested in the Land Rover tech and produced the X5 on the back of it. They then flogged MG and Rover. Rover is now Indian owned but a dormant brand, MG is now Chinese owned and sells lots of EVs. (MG had some models like the F/TF but mostly they were modified quick versions of Rovers) On Ford, that's a bit that will trigger some. I think a lot of Americans do believe Henry Ford invented the car, which of course he didn't. And his model A and the more famous T cars, were... Shit. But they were much more affordable, they were half the speed of even older Fiats, Mercedes, Bentleys etc. But they were the most accessible way for an ordinary family to get close to a motorcar. The other interesting side is Ford of Britain was formed to import these, it was not owned by Ford though, big Hendo just agreed to licence the brand. Cut forward and Ford of Britain is one of the dominant marques here and designing their own cars. So Ford buys the company and eventually merges it with their German arm to create Ford of Europe. Since then basically every world car (a car that's sold globally not regionally) has been developed by Ford Europe and that's what pisses Trump off. Even when we're buying American brands, it's been designed and manufactured here. I haven't had a book entry in a while, so there you go.

5:55 - Taylor takes a look into the future and does not like what she sees. Very playful in this one Stevie, I actually enjoyed the banter. I've seen 1 or 2 do this video (I dont actually remember RNTV doing it so not talking about them here) and their tongue is usually so far up Britains ringpiece I can feel it dribbling down my legs. I prefer a bit of banter on this shit rather than false fawning.

I mean… I could barely stay awake for it πŸ˜‚ I was really tired, so I don’t know if it’s that or if I just found the video boring, but all that to say, it’s okay if you don’t watch it lol
