UK Heatwaves

Comments

A big part is AC isn't common but where it goes exist, often it's undersized (BTUs) so not that cool. I've been in Florida and the bars were cool, as soon as you walk out the door the heat hits you. Here, many bars are basically ovens. So for many there's no escaping the heat.

Andy

It's actually cooler today here.

I'd say aswell as all the other factors, as Brit's we are just not used to the heat so don't cope with it particularly well.

Adam G

Humidity is the main factor here in the UK. 35C here can be worse than 35C in Spain for example.

The aircon on the roof of the school will be for the café refrigerators or PC suite...

We have an alert system for the different types of weather, yellow, amber and red. They're issued for heat, cold, wind, rain and storms usually by the Met Office. We've been having hosepipe bans since the 70's and actually had a drought in 76 where the water was shut off to houses and you had to collect water from a hydrant in the street so they're nothing new. A lot of this is MSM sensationalism to push the Net Zero agenda. You were watching a channel 4 TV news article and it had the obligatory net zero expert telling us how we're all going to boil to death if we don't get an electric car and turn the heating off.

The heat during the day wouldn’t bother me as much. If it would bloody cool down at night. I’m hardly sleeping cause of it.

I think theres a range of factors that make British weather feel different. 1. Yeah it can be humid when it gets hot heat, its gets 'muggy' and it can feel like theres not enough oxygen in the air. 2. When we experience heat abroad its often a dryer heat, particulary in Spain and popular european destinations. So it's "different" 3. Often travelling abroad is for a holiday. We're are doing relaxing holiday things where we actually want the sun and heat, its one of main reasons brits travel abroad - to get the good weather. Here of course were working in it and living it, so yeah its sticky and uncomfortable. Sleeping at night becomes horrid as well. 4. A/C is everywhere in hot countries, its easy to escape the heat in stores, restaurants and even at the accomodation.

Schools don't have air cons either! Unless they're new builds maybe, but even then.

It has been awful 😫 We don't have air con in our homes over here and a lot of them were built to keep the heat IN. I have seen so many comments from people in other countries saying that the temperatures here aren't high compared to what they experience, but it's a different kind of heat, it's heavy and humid. Imagine that with no air con 😳
