I believe the combined Empire/English forces had combined outside Mechanicsburg, where the Jaegers and Geisters fought (and then drank and, ahem) together. My understanding is that the battle that just finished was an unexpected one in which the Polar Lord Ixtha ambushed Empire forces just as Agatha and her small English fleet escort happened to be passing over on the way to Mechanicsburg.
