In among all these flashbacks, I wonder if we'll get to see Anevka? We've never actually seen what she looked like. (And I still think Tarvek knew about this while it was happening, but also knew he couldn't do anything about it and survive, and it wasn't until Agatha that he decided to risk everything - and, indeed, nearly got killed for that. What happened to Anevka probably happened while he was away in Paris, since I think that would have been a sticking point for him as well. Can't help but wonder, somewhere, if the machine would have worked at least some of the time, and some clever, sneaky young Spark wasn't sabotaging it behind his father's back, knowing what would be let loose if it worked... All speculation, see you for Wednesday's page!)

2021-09-05 23:57:36 +0000 UTCI feel like both are upset in that last panel. Othar is probably considering what Tarvek's family did as heinous, while Tarvek is attempting to defend himself in some fashion.

2021-09-05 16:09:00 +0000 UTCTo be fair, I'm pretty sure it was a lot less than half of the sparks in Europa. Also, thinking about it a bit more, I think Othar's nuanced enough to recognize that getting rid of sparks to serve Lucrezia's purposes is not a good thing. He's perfectly able to like the means but hate the ends.

2021-09-05 14:39:28 +0000 UTCI was under the impression Tarvek was fully aware of his father's whole kidnapping sparky girls and running them through the Holy Machine thing, and also of the Geisters in Sturmhalten, thus probably also the Geister's role in the whole thing. He may be less thrilled about the Geisters telling Othar about all of that, especially about the bit where he knew about it.

2021-09-05 05:36:59 +0000 UTCI think even I understand this one: The Geisters are explaining how they ran around Europa looking for sparky girls who look like Lucrezia, kidnapping them, and running them through the Holy Machine, thereby killing all but Agatha. Tarvek is unhappy about this, although he shouldn't be surprised, since it was his dad housing and supporting the whole operation, and Tarvek knew that when Agatha-as-circus-performer showed up at Sturmhalten.
