Girl Genius Comic for Wednesday, September 08, 2021

EDIT: Well, this took longer than I expected. I've started a new medication, and it's making me stupidly fuzzy-headed. With luck, that'll pass soon.

I need...more movies with beautiful haunted mansions. I'm running out.

-----------------------------------------------

It's Wednesday's page! And we have a message from Othar.

Also, making fun of Tarvek is a never-ending joy.

Thanks, everyone, I'll have words up soon!

Everybody: Oh yeah,... he's insane.

Darnel D Cooper

Fair. It could be the body of Lucrezia that we see first, all the way back on page 4, which is likely the same body that Von Rijn ultimately ensnares.

Michael Bacon

Hey, he has an "apprentice" who's into fashion...

Brian Harvey

I figured it's the body that the Lucrezias were talking about under the Dome. The one that requires a "molecular crystal loom" "that takes years to build". Like, it isn't subtle that Lucrezia is aware of magitech that's advanced beyond anything that literally any other known character knows about, including Albia. It's clear that it's possible to travel through time physically, though, since we know Agatha will do it.

Michael Chui

Tarvek looks so sad in that last panel, like he's finally accepted that Othar needs to be killed for real and no one is up to the task.

Paul Burks

He's a spark. He can wear whatever he wants. Note the visor, for example. But honestly, he's one of those hard to fit gentlemen, and those sweaters fit him perfectly. He either has to wear those sweaters, learn to make his own clothing without knitting, or make the use of the tailoring services of a spark he's vowed to kill... eventually, when he's to the point of taking out the remaining low risk sparks. He couldn't trust clothing from the latter. So, sweaters.

Some Ed

He thinks Tarvek already is his sidekick.

Mary Catelli

I'm assuming it enhances his ability to see things in black and white (thereby seeing through the deceptions of eeeeeeeeevil).

George Simpson

Just re-reading the past week a bit, we're all thinking the "Lady of the Sharp Crystal" bears a striking resemblance in memory to the modified Anevka clank, right? Like the one that's on the mysterious island mucking around with a replica of a queen's mirror that can possibly travel through time?

Michael Bacon

Also are we ever going to learn what the visor is about?

The Roots of Progress

How is it that everyone else wears these lovely regal Victorian outfits with vests and buttons and embroidery, and Othar wearsโ€ฆ a turtleneck sweater?

The Roots of Progress

Poor Tarvek. Not a happy camper.

Brian Harvey

Perhaps Othar is saying that he's promoting Tarvek from apprentice to a GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER in his own right and making him the inheritor of his mantle, so to speak.

William Ansley

I don't know how many other people will remember it, but this page reminds me of nothing more or less than that episode of "FullMetal Alchemist" where Roy Mustang went off on a rant about how much he loved dogs. My friends and I used to have that entire scene memorized (and could perform it on cue); 15+ years later I'm STILL dubbing it over this page and it does not clash in the SLIGHTEST.

Le'letha

Whenever you guys take Tarvek too seriously for too long, I start getting worried about him. And I hope he's learned something about getting within arm's reach of people who can pick him up by the scruff of his neck - and WILL. XD Othar almost doesn't need speech bubbles. I can understand him just fine from facial expression and body language. Such fun.

Le'letha

Is he trying to recruit Tarvek as a sidekick?

Captain Button

How much do you want to bet that heโ€™s claiming Tarvek can be the new โ€˜holy childโ€™? Update: boy was I wrong

Connor

I can't wait to know what Othar says to get the reactions in the second to last panel. It's got to be a ways beyond even his normal nonsense.

Eve

Hahaha oh no poor Tarvek

That first panel gives me so much joy! This page almost doesn't need dialogue, but then I remembered that I like Othar's purple prose too much!
