Girl Genius Comic for Wednesday & Friday, Sept. 22 & 24, 2021

Second Edit: I almost forgot to upload tonight's page! I've been running around doing all the things a 1950's housewife did all the time, and frankly, I don't know how those women did it. I'm very tired. My Grandma is laughing in her grave. Yes, Grandma, I am indeed very lucky and Phil is indeed wonderful.

Edit: Phil is back home and cross because he's all bundled up in a contraption that ices his shoulder. A perpetual icing machine. He's still groggy and doing a lot of sleeping, but he looks fine and I have high hopes that his shoulder will pain him less once it's healed.

Thank you, everyone, for your well-wishes!

I think I shouldn't have put both pages in this update, it's getting a bit tangled. Oh well, another step in my education.

----------------------------

Hello everyone! Today I've got a double-feature for you, because Phil has been trying to get a little ahead before his surgery. So here are the drawings for Wednesday and Friday, in one shot. I hope they entertain!

I'll keep you all up to date on Phil's condition. I don't expect there to be much trouble, he'll be tired for a while and unable to carry anything for about six months (!) but he thinks he'll be drawing again right away. I wonder, but we'll see.

In the meantime, I'm packing Kickstarter orders. Some are going out this week, others will take longer, but we're getting it done!

Thanks, all! Until later--

THE SHOULDER ICING MACHINE IS AMAZING. I kept mine long after I had surgery and used it to ice down my ankle when I sprained it several times. I then loaned it to a friend who had shoulder surgery and two days after the surgery I got an email that just said, "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU" like 20 times. I'm sorry he has to go through this but I'm glad he's got that blessed contraption.

Michael Bacon

Speaking from experience, the motorized ice pack is a GOOOD thing, keep using it, it makes things heal more quickly, as well as keeping the pain down without additional drugs. Follow doctors orders!

No. Check the other similar alcoves. Maybe they have more of these things. Get Zeetha two of them and she may be virtually unstoppable. Oh, wait, she already is. More virtually unstoppable.

Some Ed

Yeah, but if it's like the one my house mate had to use after her hip surgeries, it requires far too much fiddling maintenance. Fortunately, the recipient of the icing didn't need to do the fiddling maintenance.

Some Ed

Great news! Maybe the perpetual icing machine can have a brief-and-doomed cameo in the comic somewhere, as revenge.

Le'letha

"Perpetual icing machine"? Sounds like something a spark would come up with... :) (I hope it does similar wonders for Phil's shoulder...)

Leak

I suspect Zeetha thinks it may be her ticket back home. Agatha NOT looking at it would leave her very disappointed.

Mary Catelli

its what I assumed,...

Darnel D Cooper

I want to know whether the plans are for how to build a Mirror!

Brian Harvey

I thought the dumbbell thing was just to illustrate that there are 2 in the matched set (and what Agatha should be doing first is see if she can locate Skifander (or at least the throne) with the stone she has).

Carol Wang

Interesting how that dumbell-shaped thing was half empty in the pre-speech-balloon version but holds both stones in the worded version. So, it looks like Our Heros are pretty far from the display that's crowned with the stone, and yet it seems to just end up in Zeetha's hand by itself. Is that what we're supposed to understand? That it knows Zeetha is of the royal line and therefore deserves possession of itself? +1 on best wishes to the former experiments, now promoted to essential workers!

Brian Harvey

I thought this sentence was going to go "... Skifandite, which is the only thing that weakens the Queens of Skifander." :)

Brian Harvey

P.S. Dialogue on the second page made me giggle. Off to bed with a smile. Will be thinking of all of you this week!

Le'letha

It reminds me of a crystallized stone in its matrix.

Mary Williams

Best wishes to Phil! Add me to the chorus of people saying (correctly) that recovery is MUCH more important than pages. You guys are AMAZINGLY consistent. There's no better reason to take it slow than "recovering from surgery". I would much rather see random doodles dug out of the files, or photos from the Kickstarter packing process or the garden or house pets, than know Phil is undoing all that important surgery work. We understand. (Also best wishes to the Foglio Kids, who it sounds like will be doing all of the lifting around there, with both parents just out of surgery... Thank you, Foglio Kids!)

Le'letha

Thirding Brian! (He is a wise soul). Speaking as a hand therapist, Phil might feel terrible. Might want to consider queuing up re-runs of meaningful strips no one can figure out in time to understand as spoilers. Selfishly, we REALLY need all y'all in good shape to learn thes adventures. Unselfishly we want y'all feeling good.

Jeremy

@William Ansley: Nonsense. There's almost no way it could be a Skifandrian used tissue. It's about 20 of them, formed into a large and held together with the purpose for which they were used.

Some Ed

I think it is a lump of Skifandite, some unique ore from Skifander which can be used for some new horrific abomination of science.

Captain Button

I second Brain Harvey's opinion that Phil should wait for his doctor's complete green light before starting drawing again. But I suspect he may not feel as much like getting right back to the drawing board after his surgery as he thinks he will.

William Ansley

It /looks/ like a Skifandrian used tissue to me.

William Ansley

Don't let Phil start drawing right away, unless his doctor wholeheartedly approves it. Being in too much of a hurry to get back to work is trouble in the long run. What is that /thing/ Zeetha caught???
