EDIT: and here is the color version! The sharp-eyed among you will notice that I've replaced "Munich" with "Vienna". There's no deep reason for this, I was just thinking about Vienna and realized that it would absolutely be right up our fancy boy's alley. I'm sure he also visited and enjoyed Munich (as have I!) but I wanted to put it in and didn't want to add to the list any more than I already had. 

I mean, Snakkerjape has probably been all over the place, but I didn't want that panel to turn into that one Johnny Cash song where I always imagine the semi driver getting more and more alarmed as he realizes he's picked up a lunatic hitchhiker.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I'm thrilled to be getting this up a bit early for once!

I'm currently obsessing over the Lambton Worm. I vaguely remember reading about it in the past, while trawling through books of folklore, but I can't say I remembered much. There was a wyrm, the local sword-haver killed it. 

But I recently watched the very amusing (and frankly pretty bad) 1988 version of Lair of the White Worm, a movie that takes the Lambton Worm story as its inspiration, and where they called it the D'ampton Worm for some reason. Now I have the very excellent if slightly tweaked version of the folk song rattling around in my head. Anyway, here's the song clip from the movie–the best part of the whole thing. I love this version of the song. I also love the giant panto worm. If you watch closely, you'll see the household maids piloting the thing and having a roaring time, which is kind of adorable. I want to go to parties like this. I'd even help wear the worm suit.

Anyhow, It's got me thinking about local legends and how awesome they are, and old songs that tell stories about dragons and witches and monsters and ghosts and knights and ladies and faerie, and how awesome they are, and wishing I had more time to do fun research.
