Girl Genius Comic for Monday, March 07, 2022

Edit: It got really late and I didn't notice! Here are the colors, now I'm off to post them to the main site.

-------------------------

So I will fess up to you folks only: we wanted to change Ariadne's clothes, and then there was some farbling around with her suddenly in a new outfit, but she wasn't shown to change, and that was weird, so rather than go back and redraw things, we just made it a joke. I like it better this way. I prefer "Full Speed Ahead!" to "YIKES! RETCON!" almost any day of the week.

I do not, however, feel this way about text errors. Those I change mercilessly.

Victor (Experiment #1, who is now over 21 and so gets an online name) and I are filming a little commercial for the SCIENCE fobs while we wait for a quote from the new printer. It's actually looking like we might be going with Walsworth, who used to be Donning Starblaze, and who printed our Buck Godot collections many years ago. The circle completes! (Assuming they aren't too expensive for us.)

Thanks, all, colors soon!

This island was the inspiration for The Tempest, and Caliban was a minion who drank the effluvia.

Michael Bacon

Imagine if she tried to ascend and succeeded and turned into the Rat Queen. . . the lab would be MUCH better.

Mary Catelli

They are his inspiration.

Mary Catelli

Yeah, but what's the point of a joke if not to tear it apart with undue pedantry?

Mary Catelli

She needs someone else to explode.

Mary Catelli

...and there's what amounts to a cauldron full of effluvia right here. Huh.

Michael Chui

So is Shakespeare now canon in Girl Genius? (Or was he already?) Because that certainly seems like 3 witches. :D

Summer Sudbrink

She's layering

Oh no, I haven't seen it yet! I've been pretty busy...but thank you for keeping an eye out!

It probably didn't, but I bet Ariadne owns a knife.

Le'letha

It may very well be. I just wasn't sure.

Le'letha

As long as that doesn't end up with Martellus having an army of giant rats, I love that! Sounds plausible to me.

Le'letha

I took that as a joke.

Brian Harvey

I want to know why that shipwreck was full of clothes with holes for four arms! Nice save on the wardrobe issue. I hope William is satisfied. :)

Brian Harvey

Right? Like I have this sense that this is a job for Martellus. "Hi, I'm another of Vapnoople's students. Lucrezia wants to kill your rats. I'll give you an underground lair abandoned by Geisterdaimen and a hefty research stipend. Or I could unleash my army of giant cats . . . "

Michael Bacon

Kaja, you may or may not be aware that I sent you an email yesterday detailing the inconsistencies in Ariadne's outfit over her last few appearances, but I certainly felt that the joke was on me upon reading today's page. When I saw panel two I thought, "What, she has sleeves now? This is ridiculous!" Then, when I read her dialog in that panel, I thought, "Hey, wait a minute!" and by panel four I realized how completely and gloriously ridiculous it actually was. Well done!

William Ansley

Everyone who wants Phil & Kaja to do a short story illustrating one of the rats plays raise your hand.

Paul Lenoue

Also, I think in our universe, that fraternity would be "Mu Omicron Tau" (a muon being a subatomic particle, and not a Greek letter), but in this universe, who knows?

Le'letha

I love the background fashion show. I read it as Ariadne being just thiiiiiiis close to snapping at Lucrezia, knowing she wasn't going to survive that, and distracting herself. Monahan's been here for a while, hasn't she? XD I know she's Lucrezia's friend, but I kind of just want to put her somewhere Lucrezia isn't (with her rats, of course) and leave her alone. She doesn't seem inherently nasty, as long as she doesn't have humans to test things on.

Le'letha

It does seem in character for Ariadne so it definitely works. And I'm still bemused that Francisia can get away with disagreeing with Lucrezia without getting smashed into paste. They must have been really good friends at school.
