Girl Genius Comic for Monday, December 26, 2022

Hey everybody! I'm not sure if we'll have colors on time because we are not going to insist Cheyenne pick up our slack when he should be relaxing with his wife and child. (Edit: he did it last night anyway, he says he doesn't want to have to catch up later. At least he didn't have to do it actually ON Christmas. We are impressed.)

Instead, I've uploaded the first version of the first panel. Poor Phil. First I tell him "we need to see the cool landscape they're walking through! It's part of the point of a walking adventure!" So he makes it interesting, and then I say "Wait, but...that isn't Hydrargyros, is that some other dragon? Why is there a dragon skeleton? Where are we going with this? Is this some plot point you have failed to mention to me?" And Phil says "It's just a background detail! It doesn't mean anything!" and I say "but this is a story about dragons. So it's really distracting! You can't just put a huge dragon skeleton in the background in a story about dragons and expect us to ignore it!" and Phil makes a lot of growly unhappy sounds because he wants to be done with drawing the page, and then he says "fine, I'll make it a clank." and I say "well, just put some tech on what you already have there and make it a dragon clank. That would be really cool and would actually fit the story." and then he's happy because this is not only nifty but is also a lot less work. This is how we work together.

The ice sheet was still in place early this morning when I went to bed (around five AM) but when I woke up the rain had washed it all away. Seattle isn't used to ice storms, freezing rain like this happens maybe once a decade so things got wild. The Seattle subreddit was full of videos of people and cars sliding all over the place. I won't say I didn't have places to go, but my places to go didn't have as much urgency as, say, a person whose boss makes them come in to work no matter what, so I was able to stay well out of it. The one trip I made, out to the garage to get the bag of salt I needed for the front walk (I didn't want to murder the postman) was the scariest thing I've done all month.

I did see raccoon and rabbit tracks, which gave me some good ideas about where to place my two critter cams. I'm looking forward to seeing what they capture.

Ok, I have to get back to Christmas prep, so here's the page! Have a wonderful weekend, whatever you may be doing, and I'll be back soon with colors or the next page or both!

Glad you stayed safe! Hope you had / are having a nice holiday.

Kaja, I read you as saying you were looking to see what the rabbits captured, which was confusing. Ah, the ambiguity of language.
