Beyond the Veil: Kiran's Supernatural Hun

Chapter 28: Clues and Speculation

"That night, my brother went to bed very early after his return. The next morning, he also got up very early. We had breakfast together, and when we talked about what happened yesterday at the table, he even laughed and said he had seen something that wasn't really a ghost, which was a lie. I asked him what he saw, and he told me a white face hanging from a tree. Staring at him with a pair of black eyes. I mocked him when I heard it. I thought someone had played a prank on him. In fact, everyone thought that, so we didn't give it much importance."

"But checking some of the photographs taken that same night, we discovered that this face appeared, as clear and vivid as if it were part of a joke. It's a pity we deleted those photographs; we decided to burn everything and move away from this town."

Kiran nodded upon hearing this; it seemed that this exceeded many of his expectations with this investigation, and being a very old case, the chances of success were decreasing. "So, did that help in any way?"

Billy smiled as he looked into the distance, sitting on a wooden bench under a tree, and replied, "No, it didn't help because my brother started seeing that head wherever he went."

"On the night it happened, my brother came back early. This time, without saying anything, he rushed into his house and locked himself in. He and I slept in the same room at that time. Our family's conditions weren't the best, but we never lacked food on the table.

It was clear that this was beyond the capabilities of a detective investigating a case, but knowing that it was evidence and that it needed to be solved, Kiran didn't abandon this case due to a lack of skills. He had studied hard to become a good detective, so he couldn't afford to give up now. Therefore, listening to the testimonies of those living nearby, he hoped to encounter the main problem.

After hearing Billy's testimony, Kiran finished making his respective notes, lifted his pen, and looked at the older man in front of him. He seemed to notice his gaze and said, "Shortly after that, my brother committed suicide."

"Was the reason never known?" Kiran asked this with a discreet observational look, as if he wanted to evaluate the man.

"It was never known; shortly after, it was discovered that a girl died in the lake, and later another victim was found near the factory, which was closed some time later."

Kiran made a note of this and said, "It must have been tough, but now I ask you, if those people who died were in a relatively close timeframe, as you studied to be a detective, is there any connection between the victims?"

"The girl found dead in the lake shortly after my brother's suicide was an orphan, and the boy who died later near the factory was my brother's best friend, so the three of them were somewhat related."

Kiran remained silent for two or three seconds, as if he were thinking of something that hadn't fully dawned on him. "Thank you very much; you seem to know an answer you never mentioned until now."

"Yeah... Did you also think about it?" Billy didn't mind hiding this because he had no one, so knowing the truth had nothing to do with it.

Kiran furrowed his brows as if he were exerting effort not to say what he was thinking ahead of time. He tucked his notebook into one of his pockets and said, "Your brother might have killed the girl he liked in the lake that same night; he came home later than usual. Maybe you could have noticed something if you remember, so that statement would be totally linked to your words according to what you observed."

"That's..." Billy thought for a moment that tarnishing his brother's name was something he couldn't allow. However, as he said before, he didn't want to go to the grave with those secrets.

But Kiran didn't give him a chance to respond and said, "It could also be that your brother wasn't the killer but his best friend was; maybe both were the killers and somehow ended up all three dead. There are many reasons we can't know because both the victim, the friend, and your brother are dead."

Just before leaving, Kiran paused and said, "Of course, all of this should or should not be as we mentioned. I'm not here to solve past problems, but to make sure the future is okay."

After saying this, Kiran left; he still needed to clarify his thoughts on how a human head appears before people and whether it is an evil spirit. But before leaving, Billy shouted, "I have a picture of the girl, my brother, and his best friend. If it helps, you can have them; you don't know how much you've relieved those thoughts in me."

"Then it would be of great help."
