Hunter, Don't Shoot My Friend

Chapter 18: The Interesting Topic to Discuss

Ethan lay in the box, doing nothing for fifteen minutes. The truth was, he didn’t have the strength to do anything right away.

At that moment, he could only feel the emotions he had experienced in that dream over and over again.

He was quite upset; those sensations after having an unpleasant dream were what exploded in his body. He also wondered how he would face the classes he would give his students.

No, he was wondering if it was really worth staying here to alleviate his recent discomforts.

“How unpleasant...” Ethan took a new pill to alleviate these sensations.

Wasting no more time, he stood up to take a shower. He needed to calm his mind, agitated by those murderous intentions that burned his skin.

As the cold water poured over his body, Ethan wondered with a voice full of tranquility, “I wonder if my students would like to talk about history.”

Ethan, having experience and originally wanting to distance himself from bloodshed, thought being a teacher would be a good idea. But things always change; now, with that bad dream, part of him wanted to go into the demon’s mouth and kill hundreds of enemies.

But remembering that this was not a situation he hadn’t been in before, he knew there was no point in causing a bloodbath. The best thing was to calm down; the special drugs to keep him in line would facilitate that.

The fact that he knew these sensations so well was worrying, but at least his willpower was strong enough to keep living. Not everyone could live with depression, anxiety, and the many other things Ethan felt from day to day.

As he had said, he wasn’t a hero, much less so. He just lived on the edge of madness and felt quite satisfied to indulge in every moment where he found the situation.

Perhaps that’s the advantage of living, knowing concretely that each day could be the last.

Not everyone thinks each day is the last; has anyone ever thought of it clearly?

“I look good...” Ethan murmured, looking at himself in a mirror and appreciating his black suit, serene gaze, and clean appearance.

He carried his concealed pistols and his sword to balance things out when unexpectedly facing a dark entity.

Beacon Hills High School was one of the main places he would be in this town. Not many other places caught his attention, and he believed that even being in his mansion in the woods was much better.

But since he needed to socialize, there was nothing better than being a teacher.

“Your special lunch is ready,” said Sebastian, who was also dressed in a black suit, more like a butler.

Ethan nodded, walked to the kitchen, and said, “I don’t want to, but I must eat and take these special drugs. Maybe they are killing me.”

“Metaphorically, only. These drugs are specially made so humans don’t die of depression or fear. No human is prepared to carry the post-traumatic stress that every agent of light has after eliminating dark entities,” said Sebastian as he served a cup of coffee.

Everyone needed to eat well, especially Ethan, who needed to recover his strength, which was used extremely well as he eliminated dark entities.

His body was different; he needed to be very strong to eliminate his enemies. However, even though he wasn’t entirely human, he still needed to eat, sleep, and rest.

“Any news?” Ethan asked while eating at an accelerated pace.

Sebastian nodded and said, “According to what we heard, Anton killed a pretty powerful demon alone. Further south, there was a series of large-scale killings that ended with the elimination of hundreds of people.”

“Also, recently, a girl about whom we have no data was found a few kilometers from this location, cut in half. We still await responses from the agents of the light to know more about the case.”

“Any word from my sister?” Ethan asked without showing curiosity.

Sebastian shook his head and said, “None, nothing since they sent the weaponry you requested.”

“There’s a coyote outside the house; don’t hurt it. I think she’s my friend.”

“Do you refer to the coyote as her?”

“I suppose so. Well, thanks for the lunch,” said Ethan after finishing his meal.

...

In student life, there were many kinds of people out there living their lives: the popular ones, the smart ones, the antisocial ones, and those who were bullied.

Ethan didn’t know if these kinds of students still existed, but since he hadn’t stepped into a school since he could remember, it didn’t hurt to assume things that normally happen in these places.

The popular ones smiled happily and greeted each other, while the common people, on the contrary, often looked at or gathered quietly among themselves.

“Have you heard the news?”

“What news?”

“The new history class has been revolutionized, at least in our high school. I think it’s a way to better teach that boring class.”

“Will that new history teacher be an old man like in other years?”

“I keep saying the same thing: Is it really necessary to know about history?”

“We must learn some history. Nowadays, any idiot can come with a camera to film us and ask us questions for some interesting reward.”

“I think I saw the history teacher before. He seems to have a lot of money.”

“But you know what?”

“What?”

“I guess you’re right. That car outside, I hadn’t seen it before, and it’s not easy to get for its age, value, and care.”

Students liked to talk about the new girl, the newly arrived teacher, and interesting things that generated endless conversation topics.

Since he was appointed as a teacher at this school, it was known—it's not false to mention—that Ethan had some talent, but for the very smart students who love conspiracy, his classes might not be so appealing.

That topic of conversation was the main thing being talked about early in the morning.

At the moment they talked about what kind of person he was, the main door of the classroom opened silently.

All eyes turned to the main door. A man was entering the classroom, holding an old book, a case that looked like a test tube holder, and a black briefcase.
