Attibute Panel: Evolution from an Artic Wolf

22 - The Adventures of Luke and Baxter

"Auuu!"

Luke let out a low howl full of excitement with a hint of happiness.

After filling his stomach enough for the day, he signaled for Baxter to eat the remaining rabbit.

Although the quality of the meat from the pair of Flailecillos was not bad, it could not compare to another type of meat that was not as feathery and difficult to eat. This time Luke decided to eat it in spite of all this because of the points, otherwise he would not have done so.

If there are no profit points involved, considering at first that the food to live on is enough, Luke would look for other prey instead of attacking animals that do not give him points.

Otherwise, he would have taken down numerous prey along the way that he originally ignored.

Baxter grunted with excitement and ate the remaining rabbits, thrilled to finally have successfully hunted.

There was still one whole adult rabbit left, so it stood behind a rock and under Baxter's observations mimicked Luke and began digging a small hole with its paws to bury the rabbit.

"Auuu!"

"Auuuuuuuu!"

Baxter howled over and over without stopping.

It didn't take Luke to understand the complex emotions and what Baxter wanted to explain to know he was happy. But he had sensed that Baxter could now express some slightly more complex communication.

After a few howls, Luke also understood Baxter's meaning.

He wanted to keep hunting, at these words Luke was in full agreement, the pack needed food and they experienced hunting together.

Baxter also wanted to express that he wanted to take some arctic rabbits to the gray wolf who had taken him as his subordinate, and to the wolf girl with other apparent meanings.

"Rrrr!"

Luke didn't mind interfering with Baxter's idea, indeed, he was pleased that this little subordinate understood the meaning of sharing.

Having gotten affirmation from his boss, Baxter jumped up and down excitedly, wagging his tail and giving affection to his supreme leader.

Auge!

But still not liking the wolf's affection, Luke kicked Baxter and he rolled twice in the snow and sat down as if he were a human totally bewildered.

"Rrrr!"

Luke just snorted arrogantly, then motioned Baxter to come with him as he had picked up a different scent from the arctic rabbits and moved forward not before leaving his scent on the stone where they had left that adult arctic rabbit.

It is true that Luke has no use for eating the same meat since he is in search of his evolution, but this does not indicate that no one in his herd is not hungry. If he can hunt, he will get experience and food which did him no harm.

On the other hand, Baxter was learning to sniff and when he understood what Luke was doing, he waved his tail like an antenna and stuck his nose into the snow.

Luke looked at him as if this wolf was a worm, who sticks his whole nose into the white snow to sniff? But he didn't care, even though his time was limited, he had it all figured out so that when they were about to return it wouldn't be so dangerous.

But wanting to see what Baxter was about to do, he didn't stop his movements, letting him act as he wanted. After a few minutes, that smell he had perceived became stronger and under his perceptive gaze he saw hare poop.

From the smell, these were not arctic rabbits, this type of hare is different from those rabbits and when Luke heard the sound, he knew they were numerous prey.

Still a long distance away, that creature finally appeared under Luke's gaze. One, two, five... A rodent tribe that while not surprising, something different from rabbits is always welcome.

"A large group of Lemmings..." Luke's eyes sparkled with excitement, they were in front of dozens of Arctic Lemmings that seemed to be very comfortable.

If there was one creature besides wolves that Luke was very familiar with it was the Lemmings, the creepiest creatures in terms of the way they act, something that can give a lot of chills to those who don't know them.

Lemmings are a tribe of myomorph rodents of the family Cricetidae commonly known as lemmings or lemmis. They inhabit the tundras, the taiga and arctic grasslands, the northern part of the American continent, and some regions of Eurasia.

Everyone will think that they are simple rodents, but as more and more is discovered about these Lemmings, everything becomes more and more obscure.

Lemmings are rodents that, from time to time and when there is an overpopulation, start running to the cliffs, throw themselves into the sea and swim to nowhere until their useless and meaningless effort makes them end up dying from exhaustion and they end up drowning in the ocean.

Do they die themselves to death? Luke knew it was to preserve the species, to conserve the food they have for their future generation. But this is still creepy if you think about it over and over again.

"Rrrr!"

Luke, who saw this rodent roaming freely around without any obvious concern prepared to attack. This time they would simply kill as many as they could. It was only after giving Baxter directions that they attacked.

Roar!

Luke ran at high speed at the first Lemming he encountered, he was male and his body was really big within all the ones out there.

When these Limmings saw two wolves attacking them, they ran in all directions but Luke and Baxter gave them no chance to escape.

It only took one bite for these fragile creatures to stop moving, the bite after all can exert hundreds of kilograms in force and killing one of these rodents is not at all complicated.

Luke, who was the first to subdue a Lumming, bit it and after squeezing hard enough left it on the ground. Although he was concentrating on eliminating as many Lummings as he could, blood soon stained the snow white.

Only two wolves were enough for a bloody scene to be generated in a few minutes, in the last stay Luke ran after the last male Lumming and bit him hard after lunging at him.

His wolf teeth penetrated the Lumming's skin and blood soon stained Luke's mouth, his red eyes visualized the surroundings with a cold stare. There was no creature that could kill him right now, as his speed was fast enough to escape this place without much trouble.

After eating two Lummings, Luke was able to breathe easily. This small meal was enough to give him a few more points, even though these are just rodents they filled his stomach and were able to hunt more than a dozen Lummings.

"A few extra points..." Luke went back to hiding the Lummings he and Baxter didn't eat.

They soon dug a hole to hide all the Lummings and Luke made sure to leave their scent and a bloody mark so he knew where they had food. With the cold from the snow, this would work like a fridge and keep the meat from rotting even if they didn't come for the Lummings.

"Ow!"

Luke howled and moved forward at high speed to see if they could find anything else before dark.

Baxter followed Luke very excited about this lack that was proving to be such a success.
....

After that successful hunt, Luke and Baxter continued to search for food as if what they had was not enough.

It has to be said that the pack should feel a little humiliated, two inexperienced but strong wolves have been able to hunt more food than the entire pack in a month.

It is true that Luke is not arrogant, he is simply looking to evolve and whatever he encounters along the way if it cannot be ignored he will hunt. Those that are weak will be his prey, and the stronger ones his targets.

In the area where they are currently located, the daylight hours are getting shorter and the nights are long and cold.

Not long after he left the cave, Luke saw the sky darken.

During this period of time, Luke and Baxter found the icing on the cake which was an adult Arctic Reindeer that was eating grass.

The Arctic Reindeer herd is only six or seven kilometers away and they are about to apparently migrate.

This Arctic Reindeer dares to go out foraging alone, representing his strong self-confidence and the experience he has gathered throughout his life.

After all, this is an adult Arctic Reindeer.

Its strength is very good and so is its speed, which will surely be able to flee from any predator that wants to make it its prey.

Even if the Arctic wolves want to hunt this kind of adult Arctic Reindeer, they must rely on teamwork to block and intercept them without giving them a chance to escape.

When they both saw that adult Arctic Reindeer, Luke was looking at the possibilities and advantages of a successful hunt. Baxter was not yet over his 40-point speed, and the Reindeer had not noticed them.

Therefore, Luke thought it over quietly and after coming up with an excellent plan, he let Baxter go hunting.

The Arctic Reindeer ran for a while, then continued to eat moss on the spot, waiting for Baxter to chase him.

This scene made Luke understand that this Arctic Reindeer seemed to be playing with Baxter.

After Baxter chased him again, the Arctic Reindeer kicked Baxter's head so hard that he showed his teeth in pain.

Seeing this scene, Luke who had been waiting for the Arctic Reindeer to be tired and confident finally moved.

His silent footsteps trod the snow, and he bared his fangs, ready to hunt.

"You have fallen into my hunt!"
