Attibute Panel: Evolution from an Artic Wolf

49 - Luke's Perks

The next day, Luke rested in the cave all night and upon waking up, the first thing he did was to observe the surroundings of the cave for any enemy predators.

But as he always leaves his scent several hundred meters around the cave, there was no problem.

With a howl, he returned to the cave with Baxter.

As known, under the Polar night, prey should be scarce. Luke originally wanted to bring the rest of the water's food to his parents. However, to his surprise, he saw Ondina hugging a drooling Arctic trout.

This simple curious event made him abandon that idea. After all, he did not want to take away the curiosity of others to eat Arctic trout, and he could also go ice fishing as he had done before.

After alerting Ondina, Luke left the cave with Baxter, and on the way, he let Baxter hunt some Lemmings so that the blood would spread in the surroundings, and hopefully, they would find larger prey.

Although Lemmings do not have much meat and it is difficult to satisfy their hunger, this does not take away the fact that it provides them with the water they need.

In no time, Baxter returned to Luke with the corpses of some Lemmings and wagged his tail with a big smile on his wolf face, waiting for his boss to praise him.

Luke just put his paw on Baxter's forehead and nodded strangely. If anyone saw them, they would think that this would be some kind of intelligent ape movie.

After those somewhat strange events, he and Baxter arrived at the ice once again, the water of the Arctic Circle.

It can be said that the land is outside of this place, so the larger area is in the hands of the ice.

There is white snow and ice everywhere, and it is also a paradise for various living beings. Luke is surprised that global warming will increasingly affect this beautiful place.

And unlike the other time, now there were many living creatures in the ice layer. Seals, sea lions, and birds flying around the sea.

Many birds migrated before the arrival of the Polar night; therefore, there are not many of these flying birds, and they are rare in the Polar night.

For these prey, Luke proceeded to ignore them. It is not smart to hunt in this place. For all these to survive the Polar night, it means that they are very attentive or know how to stay in a herd.

What worried Luke was encountering a Polar bear. So after looking around, he lowered his alert levels a bit as he did not find the Polar bear.

But as a precaution, he asked Baxter to be his alarm in case of an unforeseen event. Then he arrived at a circular hole in the ice bed and prepared to continue fishing.

Fish meat, even if the father and mother are in this area, they have never tasted it in all their years of life.

The Arctic Ocean is rich, but wolves and other predators learn at a very young age that this is not their domain.

For this, Luke submerged his right paw that was previously full of Lemming's blood, and in no time, the fish was attracted by the smell of blood.

Luke then opened a Lemming with his sharp claws, and the surface of this small prey split open. Pieces of meat and the smell of blood soon flooded the water. After a while, several fish were attracted by the food and the smell of blood.

These fish are not small, the vast majority are between forty to fifty centimeters long, and the longest between seventy to eighty centimeters.

Most of these fish are predators, some are large with a very big appetite and approached to devour the Lemming's corpse. Even the largest of them, with a movement of its tail, drove away an Arctic trout that was stealing its food.

Obviously, they all want the food for themselves. But as time went on, the fish that came closer became more and more ferocious. As a result, the fish under the ice began to fight among themselves for the food.

Seeing this, Luke remained still, waiting for his best moment. Now, the biggest fish drove away the smaller ones and approached the Lemming, opening its large mouth with sharp teeth.

But at that moment, Luke's eyes shone with a cold light and he moved his sharp paw towards the water. In a few seconds, with the hunting experience from yesterday, he ruthlessly grabbed the nearest big fish. His sharp claws pierced the flesh of this fish and the fight began.

The water began to churn fiercely, but by then Luke manipulated his claws and they pierced deeper into the body of this fish, and with a violent movement, the big fish was pulled out of the water.

Out of the water, no matter how a fish fights, all it will do is an inevitable struggle that is by instinct. After several blows to the head, this trout stopped moving.

The fish under the ice had already dispersed, but Luke took another piece of Lemming and threw it into the water. But the fish that felt the danger in this place did not swim near again.

But Luke was patient, and knows that sooner or later some other fish will swim close to his position to be hunted.

Looking towards the water, Luke saw that there was a large amount of marine debris. All this marine debris was floating in the ocean.

Luke then looked at the body of the Lemming where there was no fish. Then he headed to the outer edge of the ice layer and looked at the marine debris. There are many types of garbage, most are plastic bags, cigarette butts, foam blocks, fishing nets, and glass bottles.

For these marine debris, Luke checked them one by one and pulled out a small fishing net that was somewhat broken. But this fishing net can be used to catch some extra fish. If he does it right, he and Baxter can catch many more fish without worrying about how to bring them back to the cave.

And if there's a fishing net, you can catch more. Of course, everything is determined if they can use it correctly and if this net is good. Taking the net and returning to a more open hole, Luke threw another piece of Lemming to this side.

Luke took a look and discovered that, after a while, there were two types of fish and they were Arctic salmon. And he discovered that one of them was very close to the mouth of the ice layer.

This fish also bit the dead Lemming, so without hesitation, Luke's sharp claws plunged into the ocean and caught this transgenic salmon that measured between thirty to forty centimeters long.

He then threw the fishing net aside, and at that moment, the rest of the animals on the ice watched Luke's actions and they were really confused.

Everyone was very curious, why were the caught fish being put in a fishing net? Certainly, their intelligence may not be enough to understand what kind of tool Luke had now.

At this point, Luke also threw the pike he had caught earlier into the fishing net. During this time, Luke continued to fish the fish that were attracted to both sides of the ice.

This traditional fishing method is effective for the current Luke. And in less than two hours, he had run out of any bait to continue fishing.

But this time he also successfully harvested seven types of fish of different sizes. The largest of them is the Northern Pike they just caught.

This Northern Pike also weighs about thirty kilograms and the rest of the Arctic trout along with some salmon measured between thirty to fifty centimeters long.

And there was at least a hundred kilograms of fish meat. If he brings this food to his parents, it will definitely give them a big surprise.

"Rrrr!"

After the bait was finished, Luke instructed Baxter to leave this place.

But Baxter wanted to try fishing like Luke.

"Boom!"

And as a result, Luke hit him on the head without giving him permission to fish, this distracted wolf could get into the water due to his impatience or anger and it would cause him an agonizing death.

But so he wouldn't feel bad, Luke gave him the task of dragging this full net of fish. And after learning how to do it, Baxter was excited to be of some use.
