Beyond the Veil: Kiran's Supernatural Hunt

Chapter 6: Motives and Circumstances

Kiran, with his innate ability for observation, reviewed everything that had happened so far to determine if something was being overlooked.

I wake up, and the first thing I feel is pain. My head feels like it's about to explode, and my whole body is numb. I try to move, but something is preventing me. I open my eyes slowly and see that I'm in a hospital room. The white walls, the bed, the IV, and the monitor are the only objects around me.

How did I get here? What happened? I have no idea for now. Just because he has no memories doesn't mean he has completely lost his memory or something similar. It's more like he doesn't remember what happened to end up in this place, as if something were blocking those memories related to what happened.

He knows he is Kiran and works as a detective; before that, he was a soldier. As a detective, he sees the world in a very different way than most people. Instead of just looking around, his brain focuses on the smallest and most significant details.

And with this, isn't it obvious that just when he woke up, those people claiming to be from the NIS and the doctors entered? How is someone from the National Intelligence Service in his room? Kiran analyzed this carefully as he looked around. He is too curious about the smallest details; maybe that's why he is an outstanding detective. I can say that the man named Gabriel, who is the director of the NIS, was acting as if he knew me, and to be honest, he is quite familiar, so there should be a strong working relationship, as he mentioned.

But next to him is someone who lets himself be read like an open bookโ€”the way he moves, talks, his body language, his clothes, and his behavior in general. All of this helps me understand his intention, what they are doing, and what they hope to achieve now.

It was then that he realized the gravity of his injuries. His knee was shattered, and every move he made sent a wave of pain through his body. His limbs were covered in bandages and wounds from bladed weapons that seemed to have been inflicted with calculated precision.

Every breath he took was painful, and he felt like his body was on fire. Despite the pain, he knew he had to keep composure and find a way to recover. I try to focus on my breathing and control the pain, but every small movement reminds me of the pain I am suffering.

He couldn't help but feel vulnerable and scared at the idea of what had happened to him, but he also knew he had to be strong to overcome this situation.

But those small details he showed were seen by the director of the NIS, so he desisted from that wave of questioning that was 'according to protocol' necessary.

It's hard to accept the idea that he has lost part of his past. Kiran partly feels lost, as if he had lost an essential part of himself and what shaped him as a person. But he has to keep acting as if it's not something serious that worries him. He needed to find out how he got here. It's a difficult and slow task, but he knows it's the only way to recover his life.

Everything was happening too fast, even for someone like him; it's difficult to adapt to this kind of situation.

"So, Kiran, if you don't remember anything, it's the best thing that could have happened to you for now. Looking at your current situation, it's very unlikely that you'll return to the field as an active agent, so you can get a high-ranking desk job from now on for your great services."

Kiran showed a serene expression all this time but frowned upon hearing Gabriel's words. He didn't know the reason for his annoyance, but he knew perfectly well that this was not the end he wanted and expected from his career as a detective. He didn't want to give up due to a damn injury!

"Beyond the doubts you're having about this bewildering situation, am I in some kind of trouble?" Kiran needed to know this as soon as possible because, honestly, having someone from the NIS, not to mention the director himself, is quite impactful.

"Not at all; this is not about a problem but about what you're going to do from now on. Would you accept that desk job?"

"Is that my only way out?" Kiran asked as his eyes scanned Gabriel without blinking. Although his voice was calm, there was fury overflowing in each of his words.

Just when Kiran fell silent, Gabriel suddenly responded, saying with regret in his words, "That's the result if you want to live."

Kiran's face twitched slightly. He knew Gabriel was playing some kind of game where the main factor was to capture his attention. So, with no way out, he looked at the director of the NIS with surprise. With a hoarse and rough voice, he asked, "What do you mean?"

"What I'm asking you is, do you want to keep living?" Gabriel asked while looking at Kiran seriously.

Kiran was then momentarily speechless. After a few seconds, he responded with a bitter smile, "It wasn't what I expected, but if there's a chance, I'd like to know... I'm not afraid of any complicated operation or anything like that."

Although his memories from a few months ago are blurry, all the others are still there. He knew that until a few years ago, he was a captain in the army, and some time ago, he moved to the station to work as a detective.

But when he tried to look for Kiran from a few months ago, he couldn't remember what happened during that time. Only feelings of pain, hatred, and helplessness arose within him.

Seeing Kiran in a trance, Gabriel sighed while saying with a disdainful tone, "There's a chance you'll recover from each and every one of your wounds, but the hopes of surviving the treatment are very slim. Because your body needs a large amount of that liquid, there's no chance of success.

"But you're still a special man! You can't be denied that opportunity since you're one of our best agents in service. If we can bring you back, the whole country will thank you. Unfortunately, many tried to survive the procedure, but just before succeeding, they died from intense pain," said Gabriel with a somber face.

"What do you mean?" Kiran asked, looking steadily at the face of this man, who seemed to be steering the conversation where he wanted.

This man was a demon, not in a literal sense, and Kiran knew it as soon as he saw him. As the conversation progressed, Kiran felt that this peculiar director of the NIS was more in need of him taking that kind of treatment.

Regarding a question Kiran asked himself, what does he mean by being special? More distant from the numerous clues he has gathered about his past, all of this is irrelevant when it comes to his future.

This man was pushing him to make a decision he couldn't divert. The wounds on Kiran's body are really serious, so unless he wants to resign and be a cripple for life, he had to listen to the words this man was about to say.

Gabriel looked at Kiran and said, "Kiran, you're a dead man walking because someone in your position would already be completely dead, but if you survive the treatment and your body accepts the HDW-37 liquid, you'll be the same demon incarnate in a man. A war machine that will kill anything with the sheer force of your hands!"
