Chapter 9: The Future Comes with Many Changes
Things had unfolded in a very unexpected way since Kiran woke up. He knew all of this was very strange, but a part of his consciousness told him to go ahead. Why did he agree to undergo a treatment with a 100 percent mortality rate? Well, Kiran didn't want to experience the traumatic emptiness of losing everything again due to an injury.
On the way to that special place, Kiran was only thinking the following: "It doesn't matter; there are more benefits than drawbacks anyway. Sure, he might die, but if he survives, his life will change overnight. How bad can it be? He doesn't remember a part of his memories now, but he knew whatever he was doing during that time of absence was very impressive for a Colonel and the NIS director himself to come and help him.
Kiran knew the best decisions were made without thinking too much. He believed it was exaggerated to die from this kind of treatment, and he still didn't know how it worked. True, the place wasn't pleasant; it was secluded from the city, making him wonder why this was necessary.
Since the operating room door closed behind him with a loud click, that deep sound resonated in the vastness of the room. The air was damp and cold, as if it hadn't circulated through this place in years. The high ceilings made Kiran feel insignificant, as if he were in a giant tomb.
Kiran observed the appearance of this place and knew there were no windows in the room, only a large spotlight in the center emitting dim, flickering light. It was hard to tell how long he had been waiting before the doctors arrived, but it felt like an eternity. His feet were numb from the cold bed, and his hands trembled uncontrollably.
Kiran began to look from side to side, but the more he looked, the larger this room seemed to be. The feeling of being watched haunted him, as if something or someone were lurking in the shadows.
Suddenly, Kiran heard footsteps and saw several familiar faces. They seemed desperate, with sweat drops on their foreheads and necks, as if they weren't prepared for whatever would happen. Kiran couldn't distinguish what was really happening, but he still politely greeted NIS director Gabriel and Colonel Edmund.
After they left, the doctor began to explain in detail what would happen from now on, and certainly, from everyone's words, it seemed like he was about to face a hell of pain. But that wouldn't stop him; he wouldn't stop even if dozens were suffering so much that he would die from the doctor. He was good at enduring pain, so he believed this treatment wouldn't kill him.
Looking straight ahead, Kiran didn't enjoy the feeling of being tied to the bed. The sense that something was about to happen still haunted him, and only now did he realize what was about to happen.
...
"Well, we are about to start the final human trial with HDW-37 serum; one minute to begin..." The doctor said this while holding the syringe with the liquid.
Kiran looked at the huge injection with a greenish liquid.
As time passed, the fear increased. His mind was filled with questions and doubts. What if the surgery wasn't successful? What if something went wrong during the operation? What if he didn't see his loved ones again?
After observing the situation, Kiran deduced that he was on the verge of experiencing the most painful moment of his life.
"Are you ready?" The doctor asked, looking intently at Kiran. In each of his words, this doctor always seemed to be totally at Joahn's disposal, as if he didn't want him to take this serum.
Kiran, who was slightly drowsy from the previous injections, looked at the doctor and replied, "I'm ready, doctor."
"Once the serum enters your body, the wounds that were numbed will return with sharper and more piercing pain. Your case is special, so some unforeseen anomalies may arise compared to other test subjects."
After quickly explaining what would happen next, the doctor approached Kiran and injected the serum into his chest, almost puncturing the inner vena cava.
As the liquid entered his body, Kiran could feel a cold stream moving through all his veins.
"Argh!"
Kiran began to wriggle in pain; his body started shaking vigorously as he tried to hold the area where the HDW-37 serum had entered.
He felt like every fiber of his being was being ripped from his body, and his skin felt like it was burning in flames. The HDW-37 serum injected into his chest was known for making its victims suffer before they died, and now Kiran was experiencing it firsthand.
His head began to throb with pain. Kiran, feeling the intense and agonizing pain, unconsciously wanted to hold his head with his hands.
First, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, where the serum had been injected. At first, it didn't seem out of the ordinary, but it soon spread throughout his body like a torrent of liquid fire.
The muscles in his legs contracted involuntarily, and his stomach twisted as if he had eaten something spoiled. The pain was so intense that he couldn't even scream; his throat was closed by fear and pain. His teary eyes stared at the ceiling, looking for something to hold on to. But there was nothing, only the sound of his own muffled groans of pain.
Kiran could feel how slowly every muscle was twisting abnormally. With each passing second, his breathing became stronger and his heart beat faster.
"Aaaaaaahh!"
Kiran let out a heartbreaking scream, as if he were enraged.
The veins all over his body burst, while the wounds that had closed began to ooze a transparent liquid.
Kiran knew he was on the edge of an abyss, and his vision was becoming blurrier with each passing second. He really will die at this rate!
Kiran didn't have time or energy to think. He immediately tried to regulate his breathing and carried out a special process to achieve it.
"Pulse 210 and rise!" the doctor muttered with a trembling voice.
Kiran's entire body began to convulse violently; the wounds opened and began to release blood rapidly.
The large tendons in Kiran's body throbbed and crunched abnormally. Sounds of cracking could be heard throughout his body.
Kiran's skin began to tear, and blood stains densely covered his body. It was a threatening and horrifying scene.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
"Rrrrrrrr!!!"
Both of Kiran's eyes were red. His body shook violently, crashing against the bed, and the ropes holding him were slowly tearing.
At that moment, Kiran had already lost his sanity, but a vague memory in his mind illuminated him completely.
"Our future comes with many choices."
"Aaaargh!!!!"
On the second floor, Gabriel and Edmund watched how things were unfolding.
"This scene is ten times more violent than the previous ones. Do you really think the test subject you selected can survive?" Gabriel asked the NIS director while watching Kiran bathe in his own blood.
"No one had gone this far; that's considered something." Edmund responded as if this scene didn't affect him at all.
"That's not what I asked."
Edmund's fists tightened; his eyes couldn't stop watching Kiran as he thought, 'Hold on, resist; you must resist. The entire future of this country and maybe the world are in your hands...'
Just when they thought Kiran could make it, they saw his body stop moving.
"Doctor, quickly check his vital signs." Gabriel ordered through a microphone with desperation.
"Yes, I'll do that." The doctor said as he approached Kiran and placed the stethoscope.
"No. There are no vital signs," the doctor murmured while trembling slightly.
"What did you say?" Edmund asked through the main microphone.
"He's dead!" The doctor shouted with a cracked voice, and his legs gave way as he collapsed to the floor.
"Damn it!"
