Chapter 13: A New Tomorrow to Live For
One week after Kiran underwent a special operation,.
In the room of a private hospital.
Kiran was peacefully resting on a bed in a luxurious room. Some bandages covered parts of his skin where there were once serious wounds, but now only slightly healed skin remains.
Most importantly, the HDW-37 serum was now flowing through his veins, theoretically giving him an incredibly powerful body that could be called supernatural in every sense.
Kiran slowly opened his eyes and tried to focus on the room. He was surrounded by white walls, and the sound of a beeping machine filled the air. He moved his hand to rub his eyes but felt a strong pressure on his right wrist, only to realize it was a false reaction from his body.
He tried to remember how he got there, but everything was blurry in his mind. He recalled the sensation of falling and a blast of cold wind on his face, and slowly, his memories filled with new scenes.
"I hadn't died!"
The last thing he remembers is having passed out at the end of the special treatment. He looked around and felt relieved to see that it was indeed a hospital. His body felt stiff; after moving and clenching his hands, Kiran felt like he could destroy anything within his reach.
He tried to stretch his body and received slight tingling sensations in all his muscles. The strength still flowing in his body seemed to invigorate him, as if he were ready to start fighting at any moment.
Kiran first removed all the devices connected to his hands, then sat on the bed, ensuring his body would respond as he wanted. He got off the bed and stood in the room, feeling his body's reactions. The wounds on his knee and left shoulder had disappeared. He didn't know how long he had been lying in bed, but the serum had subtly changed his body during that time.
After a moment, that feeling of strength completely disappeared. Kiran looked at his body in the mirror; his figure hadn't changed much; only the muscles looked more defined, but nothing beyond what an extraordinary human might possess exclusively.
"This is the effect of the HDW-37 serum," Kiran said, looking at his body with a smile.
Kiran walked towards the window of the room, and as he approached, he could see that he was at a considerable height. His bones cracked as he walked, and his muscles made strange noises, and the sensation of connecting with the ground as he walked with the soles of his bare feet was something that really made him feel good.
Kiran was now looking at the people outside the window and smiling with joy. Suddenly, he felt movements outside the room. After a few seconds, the door was opened by a woman.
That's when a nurse entered the room and saw him awake. "Oh, you're awake! Let's call the doctor; he'll want to see how you're doing." The nurse moved quickly to the phone and began calling someone.
Shortly after, a serious-looking man in a white coat entered the room. "Good morning, Mr. Kiran. I'm very glad you've finally woken up. How do you feel? Is there anything abnormal in your senses?"
The doctor who had treated him since he was injured took a step forward to check Kiran's hands and pupils, as if worried that something might be wrong.
Kiran didn't respond immediately. Instead, he looked at the doctor and, after a few moments, said with a calm voice, "It's all thanks to your care, doctor. At the moment, I don't feel anything abnormal with my body, but I won't hesitate to say if something is wrong."
"Those are very good words on your part. Have your memories returned?" The doctor asked with uncertainty while checking the documents in his hands.
Seeing Kiran shake his head, he sighed helplessly. "Memories aren't a problem for now. After all, you can request a report of what happened at any time."
"How long have I been asleep?" Kiran asked with a bit of anxiety in his words.
The doctor looked at his papers and replied, "You've been asleep for four days, so you shouldn't worry about what happened during that time."
"When can I leave the hospital?"
"Honestly, I would keep you for a month under observation, but since the reports said there's no need for a comprehensive evaluation and we should focus on a partial one, you can leave tomorrow if nothing abnormal happens during that time. I have to file a report, after all," the doctor replied while reviewing some documents.
After answering some questions that were troubling and concerning to Kiran, the doctor explained the condition of his outcome.
"Sometime after receiving the serum and completing the perfect union with your bloodstream, you were treated urgently by the military, and a few hours later, you stabilized. As the hours passed, the wounds on your body miraculously healed."
"Once your condition improved, you were transferred to this hospital. While you were asleep, you underwent numerous treatments and studies to ensure that everything develops normally and you can lead a peaceful life until you recover your memories."
"So..." Kiran furrowed his brow.
"The purpose of the studies was to ensure there were no complications in your normal and everyday life. We didn't know the outcome of a human organism merging with the HDW-37 serum, after all; it's the first time such an unimaginable thing has been achieved."
Upon seeing slight doubts in Kiran's eyes, the doctor continued, "The HDW-37 serum is a serum with a genetic variant; in short, it is a permanent change in your DNA sequence that forms the genes in your body. In this genetic alteration, we concluded that there won't always be changes in your descendants or in your physical form, speaking only of the exterior." The doctor said this as he looked at the documents and nodded, making sure everything had been explained well.
After the doctor explained that, Kiran remained silent.
The reason was very simple.
He needed to contemplate what the doctor had just explained. Under the scheme of the studies conducted, the DNA in his body was altered, and his genes had completely changed. In simple terms, he had mutated entirely. But according to the doctor, there were no complications, even if he wanted to have a child.
"Of course, now it's up to you to monitor the condition of your body from now on. After a few days, you will undergo physical examinations to observe the development in your body and how you will lead your private life until you remember your lost memories."
"Am I the first living human mutant?" Kiran asked, looking at the doctor.
The doctor nodded. Clearly, Kiran had understood something of what had been explained.
"I need new clothes and my phone; I also want food. I'm very hungry... But not hospital food; I need meat and a lot of sugar."
After Kiran said that, the doctor left the room. In his office, he picked up the phone and dialed an unknown number.
"He's awake..." The doctor said he was awaiting a response.
"Is there anything with his memory?" The voice from the phone asked.
"Not yet..."
"Fine, I'll visit him personally and take care of explaining."
...
The next day, Kiran was ready to leave the hospital.
Knock! Knock!
The sound of knocking on Kiran's door was heard.
"Come in," Kiran said with a bored voice.
"You must be bored," Gabriel said as he entered with a carry-on suitcase.
"You must have a lot of free time, apparently." Kiran glanced at the man who had visited him minutes after he woke up. As far as he remembered, he was the director of the NIS, making him a very busy man.
Gabriel sighed helplessly as he placed a backpack on Kiran's bed. "This is your clothing that you left before the mission; I picked it up at the base. There's also some cash, and the rest has been transferred to your bank account as planned."
Kiran didn't know why he was given so much money; he looked at Gabriel and asked with doubt, "Why so much money?"
"We agreed to be rewarded with money when an assigned mission was resolved. Since the last mission was very dangerous, giving you money is the least we could do on our part to reward you in the easiest way possible."
"The most special thing in your belongings is your personal weapon; you will be assigned a higher caliber one when we know to what extent your body will evolve." Gabriel said while handing a black box to Kiran.
"This is..." Kiran murmured with doubt.
"It's a 'Strike One' from Russia; it comes with three extra magazines and a box of bullets included in your backpack. It's registered as personal in your profile, so there won't be any problems to worry about; now you can use it in the field as a detective and privately as a citizen."
"Can I carry the weapon?" Kiran asked, astounded. This type of weapon is not one that anyone could carry; very few people can have similar firearms.
"Kiran, why do you doubt?"
The work Kiran did depended on determination and self-security. In Gabriel's opinion, Kiran's talent and work were extraordinarily magnificent. Long before undergoing the HDW-37 treatment, he was an incredible soldier, risking his life every day for the future of ordinary people. This was despite the fact that all his achievements on the battlefield would not be publicly recognized; no one would find out about what happened a week ago or what has been happening for more than three months. Gabriel understood better than anyone how extraordinary Kiran was.
"My memories are slowly coming back, but I only feel fear, anger, and helplessness. I can't understand these feelings; tell me, Gabriel, what the hell was I doing on those missions?"
Kiran froze for a moment when he heard this, but his expression quickly changed from astonishment to pity as he patted Kiran's shoulder.
Kiran sighed bitterly. His last intention was for Kiran to remember the hell he went through; he couldn't continue using the life of a person who died and came back to life.
"Take it easy; someone will explain the details of your doubts later. For now, it's better that you rest and focus on your body."
Kiran was upset, as it wasn't the answer he wanted. But anyway, he couldn't keep pressing Gabriel for now.
After saying that, Gabriel left the room. Thanks to him, his paperwork was completed very quickly.
