Beyond the Veil: Kiran's Supernatural Hunt

Chapter 16: We Are Not Alone

"We are not alone; they are lying to us; they are already here."

"Today, people not only believe in zombies but also in extraterrestrial visits. Individuals have witnessed strange things that no one can explain; we have asked so many questions that government authorities take note and remain silent. Humans accept the fact that we are not alone in the universe; it is something normal, and now we all want to discover and know the truth."

"There is a certain group of people in the world dedicated to gathering information; their theory is that they believe there are secrets, conspiracies, and cover-ups—facts that keep the public in ignorance and under absolute global control."

"Yes, as you heard, we are manipulated with news, television, and religions when the danger is already more than evident, and very few intelligent people believe in this fact."

"Now, with technology, people can search for answers more quickly and efficiently if they know where to look. The famous saying is The search for truth."

It was challenging to overlook these types of programs, especially those circulating on the internet, as intervening often led to the creation of a conspiracy that would push specialized departments dealing with dark entities to a turning point with freedom of expression and confidentiality.

Nowadays, there are two types of people: those who stay in the dark, investigating something incomprehensible, and others who are in the light, ignorant of what is happening in the world, and slowly being affected in various ways by their reality.

Reality became increasingly difficult to comprehend. As technology and science advanced, strange phenomena and unknown creatures challenging logic and reason were discovered. Initially, these dark entities were easy to hide, and world governments collaborated to keep them secret, creating a protective bubble for civilians.

However, as dark entities became more common and dangerous, it became harder for the government to conceal the facts from the world. People began to suspect that something was not right and that something strange was happening behind the scenes.

The Shadow Guard Coalition is an entity directly linked to the military but is, in a way, a group that deals only with eliminating physical dark entities in urban areas. Knowing less about these things than the association of light, the S.G.C. works directly under them to have a coordinated movement.

Meanwhile, reality itself seemed to play with the senses. People saw things they couldn't explain and experienced inexplicable sensations, and the line between the real and the imaginary became increasingly blurred.

Thinking about these things, all government agencies were prepared to prevent a catastrophe if these things came to light, accepting the fact that the revelation of the truth about dark entities to the world was closer than ever.

But this is more complicated than it seems, and one must always consider hundreds of thousands of collateral damages due to these decisions that everyone understood would happen someday.

...

At this moment, Kiran was deeply asleep, but his eyes, which should have been calm, were tightly closed, as if something terrible were happening in his mind.

Nightmares were something that had accompanied Kiran since he joined the S.G.C., and he had learned to cope with them through his nights of sleep. But this time, it was something he really couldn't control.

Sweat on his body made Kiran feel cold, and the contraction of his muscles was because his senses were tense due to being deceived by the dream Kiran was having.

"Hoo... Hoo..." Kiran soon discovered he was in another place, so his natural view carefully analyzed the unfamiliar surroundings.

"What do you think, Captain? The information from this person is too accurate; it's even terrifying." A young soldier showed him a video of a man completely in black narrating a rather intriguing story.

Kiran took his helmet, looked at the young soldier, and said, "The theory that humans are not alone on this small planet is becoming more and more real. In the way it happens, it is expected that nations cannot continue hiding such events by early 2021."

Kiran suddenly felt dizzy; his vision became blurry, and he dropped the phone.

"Captain, what's happening?" People in the room asked.

"Nothing... I just need some air." Kiran staggered towards a chair.

"Where am I?"

"What's happening to me?"

"I don't know; are we already in the air?" A journalist's voice on the TV suddenly appeared. "This is a series of explosions."

Boom!

Kiran's gaze turned to the TV; the information being communicated left him completely terrified.

"We have just learned that this is a matter of great gravity. Since the meteorites landed, creatures began extinguishing human life from southern Europe."

"We don't know; all we know is that it is an alien invasion."

"More than 90 nations have joined the United Defense Forces, hoping that their union can finally make humanity win the war."

"All the armies of the world have joined forces to fight the invaders; everyone seeks the liberation of humanity and the extinction of the enemy."

"It is announced that the world has suffered more than thirty million deaths since the monsters began to attack."

Finally, the truth about dark entities became public, but it was a harsh blow to humanity. Many could not accept the reality of what had been happening around them all this time. However, others joined forces to combat these supernatural threats and protect humanity from the unknown.

Despite revealing the worst of the world, the protective bubble created by the government remained in place, keeping civilians safe from threats lurking in the nearest darkness.

By the time Kiran had stopped thinking about all this, he got up feeling dizzy and walked as best he could to a bathroom. The first thing he saw when he entered was the huge mirror that revealed his face, full of scars, prompting him to open the faucet and wash his face with cold water.

As he came into contact with the cold water, Kiran watched the water sliding down the sink and cursed; he wanted to get out of this illusion or deep dream he was feeling.

"Kiran!"

By the time Kiran raised his head, the first thing he saw was a completely bloodied man being held by a dark entity, the same monster that had attacked his squad.

"No..." Kiran stepped back as he felt his hands not responding.

The anomaly in question is about three meters tall, with its body covered in black, thick fur, giving it a menacing and fierce appearance. Its look is similar to that of a sloth, with long and strong legs ending in sharp claws capable of tearing anything in its path.

Its head is large and powerful, with a wide jaw that can open to show a set of sharp and threatening teeth. Its eyes are small and dark, and its nose seems to be very sharp and sensitive, allowing it to detect its prey even in complete darkness.

Kiran returned to the moment when his group encountered this kind of dark entity; this ugly thing had killed his entire team.

This dream is so detailed that as it moves, the dark entity emits a deep and threatening growl, as if ready to attack at any moment. Its fur seems thick enough to protect it from any type of attack, and its musculature seems very powerful, allowing it to move quickly and efficiently.

By the time Kiran saw in the mirror that the bodies of his soldiers were completely shattered, he pulled the gun from his belt and shot at the glass.

"No!"

Bang Bang Bang!

...

After Kiran woke up from his dream, his worldview changed completely. First, he breathed a few times to calm down. When he finally managed to calm down, Kiran sat on his room's bed, and his expression became strange.

While looking around, his previously agitated breath calmed. His body was bathed in sweat, and his hands were trembling.

It had been twelve years since he had dreamed something so explicit and real, and right now, the dream was so dark that it had affected him emotionally.

"Damn, damn, damn, damn!"

Kiran pounded the floor with the soles of his feet, and soon it cracked without him realizing it. For him, at this moment, the feelings of pain and real anger had made him go through unbearable sensations.

"I'm so sorry, guys... This is my fault; I should have done better." Kiran held his head with eternal pain and regret. Since he woke up in the hospital, he hadn't assimilated that he had been completely left behind.

All the soldiers under his command had died.
