Beyond the Veil: Kiran's Supernatural Hunt

Chapter 19: New Initiatives

After hearing the response he feared, Edmund shook his head and looked at Kiran once more. In his eyes, he could only see great determination and a desire for a fight that he had never seen in him.

"Even if you had refused, it would be impossible for the government to let you go... Haha, forgive me for being so hypocritical. Your skills and future potential have no limits; you could even be the savior of the entire world if we think about it rationally," Edmund thought with a pang of guilt.

But Kiran knew this. How could the government set him free as if nothing happened after gaining devastating strength? It was more than obvious that they were monitoring him even now; that was not a surprise, after all.

"Alright, that will be your decision," Edmund said. He changed the subject and explained, "This time, the government has implemented a plan that has been in development for many months. The losses in the special containment forces were significant, and there wasn't a good plan they could safely employ until now."

Edmund was right, and these weren't just words exclusive to his observations. In Kiran's operation, there were many loopholes, and this was because many teams were deployed throughout the country.

"Just counting the errors that intelligence had in gathering information is overwhelming. This time, a new change in the regulations of the S.G.C. will be implemented. Now, they will be under direct and complete control of the Light Association, but you will only receive active missions to eliminate corporeal dark entities."

After Edmund said that, he sighed with great helplessness.

"In some way, we have to keep fighting. We can't stay behind and watch as dark entities become more and more dangerous. That's why, considering the results the Light Association has achieved in other parts of the world where they have been given complete control over dark entities, we have done the same, but only halfway. The S.G.C. is under the control of the army, but you will carry out missions as instructed by the Light Association."

Finally, the time had come. If Kiran is honest, he believes that the government took too long to efficiently implement the SGC to deal with dark entities.

It is essential to know that for every situation, there is a position occupied by a government official. Among them are police officers, anti-terrorist police, military personnel, military police, and marines, among many other branches of the military and law enforcement that handle a specific task.

However, all these branches could not directly intervene in support of the SGC because they did not have proper training to help. Currently, there is no adequate intervention protocol in these situations. The NIS, which served as intelligence for the S.G.C., were the ones detecting corporeal dark entities and carrying out elimination missions, but due to their inefficiency, they now took intelligence from the Light Association.

Kiran was now genuinely intrigued to learn about the S.G.C. system being a much more capable hunter.

"It was about time something like this happened; there were many errors in containing a dark entity," Kiran said as he poured himself a cup of coffee.

"This is something that has been recommended since the S.G.C. was founded; the government wants to stick their noses into everything, but they found out that with dark entities, there was no better option than to give complete control to the Light Association," Edmund said in a low voice.

Kiran nodded upon hearing this and asked, "What about other countries?"

"Countries like the United States and Russia created S.R.R.F.A.V., which stands for Special Rapid Response Forces Against Variants. And the K.N.A. organization, created by Russia, where they integrate their best soldiers cooperating in joint operations with various countries."

"Our country is the fifth to register a special organization to eliminate dark entities, in addition to the Light Association, which has, so to speak, complete control of the incursions. But the SGC can only take care of entities that we can shoot; something like a ghost, we don't have the capability to face it."

"How do you see this new adjustment?" Kiran asked with a serious expression, not hiding his interest.

Edmund gave Kiran a glance before smiling proudly. "This new implementation took a while to inaugurate due to the thoughts of the interim president and many others who believe that nothing is being done, or maybe they're afraid of the power the Light Association would gain in our country. Won't we have free rein to go and kill targets marked by demons? How is it possible that we just stand by and watch?"

"There are many protocols that will be granted to the army in case the S.G.C. cannot do anything against dark entities; the same goes for the Light Association. What those idiots don't understand is that if we lose or if the Light Association loses, our country would be screwed."

"To accept, they must be desperate, but in the end, it's a good idea. No one knows dark entities better, and they know how dangerous they are more than the Light Association, which has guided countries by providing very precise and detailed information. Still, being outside their guidance, a country would take no more than a year to stay organized."

Kiran was frozen upon hearing Edmund say all these statements; although he was a captain in charge of containing dark entities, his internal and external knowledge was very limited.

"But within that figure, soldiers don't last more than a year, eliminating dark entities... This is worse than war; the traumas are heavier and uncontrollable due to what we face."

"Is that why they consider me a key element?"

"Haha, you could say it that way." Edmund nodded and said, "You've been assigned a special base in Seoul; your base is something completely different from anything you've experienced, and it's not impossible for you to be deployed everywhere in the country due to your abilities."

"I understand; I'll do my best to keep protecting this country in secret." Kiran nodded slightly. He didn't expect anything special; after all, he was now an essential soldier with powers beyond any other.

"You know, you could die at any moment, Kiran," Edmund said suddenly.

"Worried? About me? I'm very touched; it's evident that you're already a grandpa and on the brink of retirement." Kiran said, diverting Edmund's attention.

Edmund couldn't articulate his last thoughts. No, it's not that he couldn't. He knew better than anyone that he didn't have the right to say he was afraid. Everyone felt terrified because, no matter what they did, they couldn't find out anything about the dark entities that led them to a unique place in their existence.

"You just need to take care of yourself and get a good wife; you must ensure your peace of mind above all else."

"Yes." Kiran responded with determination.

He had no intention of stepping back now; he didn't even have in his thoughts to abandon the fight that has killed many soldiers.

"Will you go back to your job as a detective?" Edmund asked curiously.

"Not yet; first, I'll adapt to my body, and then I'll see if I can return. I might also solve some minor cases by myself."

"Should I set you up on a blind date?" Edmund whispered softly, "I remember having a granddaughter who is studying at the university; she should introduce herself."

When Edmund said that, Kiran unconsciously thought of Emma.

"No need; for now, I don't have time." Kiran responded with a slightly annoyed expression. It's not that he was really upset, but more related to an animated expression of annoyance.

'It's been a while since I've seen her...' Kiran thought to himself at this moment. Since he joined the S.G.C. after discovering a dark entity by mistake, it's been about four or five months since he left his job as a detective.

Just when he was thinking about this, he heard hurried footsteps behind the door. Without knocking, the door was abruptly and quickly opened.

"Sir, something very big is happening in China!" shouted a soldier with a hoarse voice.

Seeing how agitated the soldier was, Kiran frowned with concern.

"Please breathe before continuing; I don't want you to die from lack of air." Edmund looked at the soldier with a cold expression.

"I'm sorry, sir..."

After a few minutes, Edmund asked the soldier, "What happened in China?"

"A dark entity exploded in China; apparently, it was a huge bat that unleashed a fight that killed many soldiers."

"The most worrying thing is that the dark entity tried to release its domain just before dying," said the soldier while sweating and breathing deeply.

"That's good; if they exterminated the dark entity before releasing its domain, there's no need to worry."

"That's not the severity of the announcement; the most worrying thing is that a type of pollen spread over a small town. It is unknown what reaction there will be to that type of substance."

"This is bad... Kiran, I'll have to leave you this time. You will be notified once your team is assembled; in the meantime, don't exert yourself too much and focus on being ready."

After saying that, Edmund hurriedly left the room along with the soldier.

Kiran stayed silent.

Without thinking much about what he had just heard, he left the room and walked slowly to the glass case where his comrades were.

Looking at the glass case, there were pictures of their faces with letters and flowers. Kiran felt anger for not being able to do anything at that moment.

However, it's not time to be limited. What matters now is how to start anew and form his conviction to reassure the families of all his fallen subordinates.

Just as Kiran was letting his imagination run wild, a sigh was heard beside him, shaking his thoughts.

Turning around, he looked at a girl in a school uniform. Judging by her appearance, she was undoubtedly a high school student.
