Chapter 116: The Trial Before Departure [5]
Ethan was now heading to the meeting where the former Argent family would be judged for the crimes of two of its members.
The charges were as follows: killing dark entities under the mandate of the Light Association, attempting to kill werewolves working directly under the S.G.C., and using resources for their own benefit.
"The old man has cancer; he'll die even if we do nothing."
"Yes, but we must uphold the authority of the Light Association. Even if they are hunters, damn, Gerard is truly insane. Even someone like me wouldn’t kill dark entities that protect people," Ethan said as he reviewed documents recorded over the last twenty years.
"Maybe his hatred is more extreme than yours..." Liam didn’t think much before saying this; he knew Ethan’s hatred, but this kind of pain wasn’t something that drove him mad.
"Then you don’t know me well. I’m always angry," Ethan said with a calm expression that didn’t reflect the emotion of his words.
"I don’t doubt that..."
…
In the middle of the forest, near the black mansion, numerous people had gathered, and among them were the Argents, most of whom were being judged.
"You’ve got your hands free, brother." Kate Argent looked at her brother, who had arrived at the meeting.
"I’m not the one on trial." Chris only said these words, unable to look his sister directly in the eye.
"You’re weaker than I thought, you bastard." Gerard was also brought in by a group of Light agents, who placed him on the wooden benches.
Everyone was arriving, including the representatives of the Light Association, who were the ones evaluating the conditions of this trial.
In every corner stood a special agent to whom Ethan had given a dose of serum to turn them into super soldiers.
They didn’t carry firearms; the only things they had were a pair of heavy knives meant to cut down anything in front of them.
At this moment, everything was in place, and Derek, along with his sister, arrived to witness the trial of those who had destroyed their family.
"But what a surprise..." Katie knew why she was here, but she hadn’t expected to see Derek Hale in this place.
Cora glared furiously at Katie, wanting to tear her throat out with her own claws. She had to take her own revenge but couldn’t.
This required a process, steps to take, and moments to consider to ensure all sides were satisfied.
At that moment, when everyone was in position, Ethan entered, followed by several agents who were superhuman soldiers.
"I’m glad we’re all gathered here, so shall we begin?" Ethan addressed everyone present and then walked in front of the elderly Gerard, who was staring at him intently.
"The reason we’re all here today is for the trial of Gerard Argent and his daughter Katie Argent. Any words before we begin?"
Gerard looked at Ethan and muttered, "I thought you hated dark entities as much as I do. We were alike in that regard, but I see you’ve changed your mind since coming to this town and facing some low-level werewolves."
"Believe me, I hate vampires, but I wouldn’t be so crazy as to let myself become one if I wanted immortality." When Ethan said this, even Katie was surprised.
"You wouldn’t, because with your power, you’ll live longer," Katie replied, knowing Ethan from her own research.
"Yes, but I can die sooner."
There was no precedent for these statements. How had Ethan revealed this information, and how had he obtained it in the first place?
"You’re lying," Gerard shouted angrily.
"I’m not lying." Ethan walked toward a sphere that was sitting on top of a stone table and placed his hand on it. The stone glowed white, indicating he was telling the truth.
The truth relic that the Light Association had given him was something he could use in moments like these—a trial of truth, without lies.
