Chapter 24: The Visit to Peter Hale [1]
Ethan had returned to his mansion, where fifteen agents were waiting for him. Half of them wore black suits, while the rest were dressed in black tactical combat gear.
As was customary in this line of work, Ethan carried his two pistols, silver daggers, his sword, and a double-barrel sawed-off shotgun called Coyote-A, which had proven highly effective on the battlefield.
“Is everyone ready?” Ethan first approached JJ, who was the gardener.
JJ nodded with a serene look and said, “I thought things would be more normal in a town like this. I expected disaster since I came with you, but honestly, things are getting worse.”
“I also thought things would be normal.” Ethan smiled slightly as he placed a silver rosary with a photo of his childhood girlfriend around his neck.
As he walked towards the open field where five black trucks were waiting, Ethan felt satisfied with what lay ahead, so he kept his words simple. “I see you’re nervous; some of you might be scared, and that’s okay. But you will be accompanying the best hunter of the last few years in the West, so you shouldn’t feel any fear when it’s time to battle.”
Everyone looked at Ethan with respect. This man had killed more supernatural creatures than many combined and was recognized for his brutality in doing so.
Most did not fear facing a werewolf; what was more feared was being alongside a man like Ethan on their first missions as S.G.C. agents.
“I expect the best from you. Remember to use any means necessary to eliminate an anomaly, and that means sacrificing anything to achieve it. We do not look out for people’s safety; we are exterminators.”
“As exterminators, we won’t rest until we kill, and then we’ll see what’s in front of our eyes. Understood?” Ethan was not a hero and didn’t need heroes; what he needed were exterminators.
“Understood, boss.”
“We don’t expect enemy contact. If that werewolf is smart, he won’t attack us, and if he does, we’ll be dining on wolf meat tonight.”
“Yes, boss.”
Ethan then got into a truck, and the convoy quickly headed to Peter’s location. Later, he would deal with the Argent family and give them a warning.
It was dusk. As in any other town, it was unusual to see luxury black trucks like the ones they were driving now.
No one knew who was moving in those trucks, but it was certain they were government people.
“Is everyone ready?” Ethan asked as he drew his sword from its sheath to be ready to use it at any moment.
This time, it wasn’t necessary to hide it, so Ethan carried it in its sheath to use if needed.
“All ready, boss.”
“I want a team on standby. The other agents should be in suitable places to prevent the target from escaping if he wakes up.”
“We understand, boss.”
When they arrived at the hospital, Ethan got out with the first group, who were holding assault rifles and quickly dispersed along the street, blocking the exits.
Ethan entered, followed by a group of five agents. They soon reached the reception area, where they were greeted by nervous nurses. “What do you need?”
“Good afternoon, Agent Ethan from the FBI. Which room is Peter Hale in?” Ethan’s charismatic look reassured the nurses, who knew nothing of what was happening.
“Room 16, second floor...”
Ethan nodded and said, “Take a moment, evacuate all the staff from that floor, and please do not call the police. We’ll handle it.”
While Ethan was speaking, two agents had advanced to take control of the security cameras. At that moment, a silent alarm was activated, sending instructions to all staff to leave.
The group that entered the hospital, led by Ethan, carried silver briefcases containing their weapons. All wore long black trench coats and maintained an emotionless expression.
To the surprise of many, Ethan was the most expressive.
You should know that there are agents of the light, S.G.C., and numerous other departments. So each and every one of them was experienced military personnel—the best of the best.
Hunters were practically pest exterminators; that’s what they called themselves in secret.
“Ready to exterminate pests if they reveal themselves?” Ethan walked nonchalantly to the room where Peter was, followed by a group of agents.
“We’re ready.”
“Don’t attack without my signal. Wait for instructions.”
“Understood.”
