Chapter 40: More of the Same
Ethan didn’t take the problems Stiles mentioned very seriously. This was the best part of his demeanor—he wouldn’t go crazy trying to eliminate dark entities because he felt neither guilt nor obligation.
People had to take care of their own problems for a few days. That's what humans do: they make mistakes over and over again, always hoping someone else will solve their problems.
The hunters and any other units tasked with eliminating dark entities would arrive later to prevent other families from being affected.
"We’re surrounded by idiots; everything could go to hell after a somewhat violent summoning." Ethan was confident that these problems wouldn’t affect him.
He needed to step back to avoid losing focus; for now, he would just assign a duo of S.G.C. agents to monitor those kids who were about to summon that dark entity.
"Zz… This call is being recorded; please state the threat level and security code."
Ethan responded directly, "S.G.C. Regent, security code 16Y-XX72 - H192, investigation mission for a case possibly leading to a class-four disaster."
"Zz… Please state the case."
"Dark entity, corporeal class, possible demon or spirit summoning. I need confirmation of the case." Ethan detailed everything to ensure it was taken into account.
Once he finished sending the report, he returned to the classroom where Scott and the other students had entered.
"He's looking at me; I think he's going to kill me," Scott thought, glancing at Ethan's calm demeanor, just hoping to skip this class once the mandatory attendance week was over.
But these worries ended as soon as Ethan stopped caring about his potential students, who might be dark entities.
Alison was curious about Ethan, but after he lost interest in her family, that curiosity faded as her love life became more intense.
Ethan didn’t have time for this, so he stopped paying attention to kids who might not bring him any benefits.
He had an alpha to convert and a vengeance to deliver to the Hale family, who certainly needed it.
When he left the school, he found a girl leaning against his vehicle. Ethan’s expression showed some displeasure, and just as he was about to speak, he caught a familiar scent—werewolves.
"Do you need something?" Ethan didn’t lose his patience; he wouldn’t be unsettled by a mere she-wolf.
The black-haired girl lifted her gaze, looking Ethan up and down before asking, "Are you the one in contact?"
"Am I?" Ethan replied sarcastically. He didn’t recognize this girl, but she did bear a resemblance to Derek.
"I'm Cora Hale. Aren't you looking for all the remaining members of my family? I thought everyone was dead, but it seems I was wrong," Cora said, showing off some long wolf claws.
This intimidation went unnoticed by Ethan, who stepped closer and said, "I didn’t think Derek had such an attractive sister. It’s a shame I don’t like wolves."
"You’d be surprised."
"I doubt it. Now get out of my car's entrance and get in, because we're going to visit your brother." Ethan had made a deal with Derek, so Cora had to respect this code.
Cora, of course, wanted to attack Ethan, but she wouldn’t do it here.
"Those killer eyes shouldn't be aimed at me—I'm your benefactor. I had nothing to do with your older sister's recent death." Ethan turned around to open his car door, but then claws gripped his arm.
Cora, now angry, warned Ethan with a fierce look, "If you're using us for your dirty plans, I’ll kill you, understand?"
"Many people have tried to kill me and failed. Come on, girl, get in the damn car." Ethan grew impatient with this girl, who could easily be his younger sister.
"I'm 17."
Ethan looked at her and said, "Then you're almost an adult. If we were in Japan, you could already get married."
"Go to hell."
"I don't know where that is."
