Chapter 41: The Siblings Reunited
"Don't touch anything; everything in this car is designed to kill your kind." Ethan, who had allowed his car to drive to the Hale mansion, currently under reconstruction, glanced at Cora, who was inspecting the luxurious interior of the vehicle she was riding in.
As time passed, Ethan felt increasingly surrounded by lunatics, and he wasn't the only one. But this was the price he had to pay to create a supernatural force to combat evil.
"What kind of time machine is this?" Cora started pressing buttons as if it were a game of Tetris, and suddenly more features appeared on the screens.
Ethan, sitting beside her, warned, "Touch anything else, and you'll have to walk."
"Are you always this cold?"
"I know you don't care and that you want to kill me. How am I supposed to treat you?" Ethan asked directly, as he noticed they had arrived. As soon as the car stopped, he stepped out.
Cora, watching Ethan leave without another word, thought to herself, 'Why does he need my brother?'
From a distance, Derek noticed Ethan approaching and asked, "How much longer will they be here?"
"The workers? I guess until they finish the house, but since I'm not supervising the site, I won't comment on their work," Ethan replied sarcastically before asking, "So, about the other offer, do you want to talk?"
This question made Derek more nervous than he should have been because his younger sister was present. If she discovered part of the story he was hiding, she would get involved in a revenge plot he didn't want anyone else to be part of.
That's why Derek walked to a more secluded area and said, "I can't talk with my sister here. Can we do it another time?"
"What's the point of delaying it?" Ethan asked bluntly.
From his perspective, Derek's precautions were pointless. There was no reason to delay a revenge that could come sooner than expected.
But Derek knew he couldn't fully trust Ethan's abilities yet, so he said, "If you fulfill the first part of the deal, then we'll talk about the second."
This seemed reasonable to Ethan, so he asked, "How's it going with the beta you're taking care of?"
"It's not a problem I can't handle. Like any teenager, he's enjoying the new advantages he has, but he'll learn quickly," Derek replied, reflecting on himself in Scott, who was an inexperienced werewolf.
Every young person needs a certain level of freedom, especially when their life is changing in ways they never imagined.
"If he makes a mistake, I must eliminate him, understand? Any justified killing can be overlooked, even if it comes from a dark entity, but if it's unjustified, he will have to be erased," Ethan warned. He wouldn't forgive Scott if he messed up.
It's true that Ethan was building a squad of supernatural beings for the future arrival of the Antichrist, as the Light Association described it, but that didn't mean he would use just anything he found, especially here.
Nowadays, there are thousands of dark entities that would love the advantages Ethan, as the regent of all of South America, could offer them.
"Let's hope he doesn't mess it up. By the way, your sister could very well go to school," Ethan said, pointing to Cora, who was sitting in the distance.
When Cora heard this, she shouted, "Go to hell, hunter."
"Relax; my arrows are reserved for bigger things." Ethan didn't take Derek's younger sister seriously.
But Cora saw it as a provocation and yelled, "I'll show you what's really big."
"Cora, stop now." Derek wouldn't allow his sister to make mistakes when she didn't know who she was dealing with.
"Are you on his side?"
"I'm just protecting you from him." Derek knew that normal hunters were strong, but Ethan was on another level when it came to hunting.
He wouldn't ruin the treaty he swore to uphold when it meant rebuilding his family from scratch in a place like this and reclaiming his town.
At least that would alleviate the infinite guilt that still lingered in his conscience.
Cora Hale looked at her brother and said, "You'll have to explain everything to me from the beginning."
"Of course, let's go eat."
