Chapter 44: Someone Disappeared, Part 2
Ethan drove quickly to the police station, where he intended to have a brief meeting with Stiles' father.
The dark entity that had been summoned was extremely powerful, on par with the most formidable opponents he had ever faced, which was why his most experienced team was being sent.
His current priority was to take full control of the police force, and to do that, he needed to meet personally with Noah Stilinski.
Sheriff Stilinski was the highest-ranking law enforcement officer in Beacon Hills, the place where the elimination operation against anomalies would take place, drawing a lot of attention.
When Ethan arrived at the police station, he got out of his vehicle and walked towards the main building.
As soon as he entered, he caught the attention of the officers, as it was uncommon to see a man in a suit in a place like this. Even the police wouldn't wear suits unless it was for a parent-teacher meeting at their children's school.
"Sir, can I help you?"
"I'm Agent Ethan from the FBI. May I speak with the sheriff of this station?" Ethan asked with a friendly expression.
The woman at the reception desk looked at Ethan's credentials and nodded, walking over to the phone to make a call. "Sheriff, there's an FBI agent here to see you. Should I tell him he can come in?"
This was standard protocol everywhere.
Of course, Ethan would adhere to the rules of each place he found himself before sending everything to hell.
"Please, follow me."
Ethan nodded with a kind expression, then was led into the building where the sheriff's office was located.
When Noah saw Ethan, he was surprised because he had actually seen his son's teacher in numerous photos on his phone.
"Are you the agent?" Noah asked, waiting for confirmation.
Ethan nodded briefly and said, "We have a lot to discuss."
"I'll take it from here, Officer Perez."
"Yes, sir."
Ethan entered the room and looked around, holding some documents in his hands as he said, "I like the town; it's much quieter than I expected."
"That's how it is here. Many people hate that part and prefer to move to a more modern city where they can put their brains to work." Noah walked over to his seat and said, "Let's get to the point. You're a history teacher, apparently a millionaire, and now an FBI agent. The faster we get to the point, the sooner we can solve this."
Ethan didn't show any surprise and, with a big smile, said, "I wouldn't expect anything less from the sheriff of this town. I have something for you."
"What is this?" Noah took the documents from the portfolio.
"In a few hours, you'll receive a call about a group of armed agents entering the town to eliminate a dangerous man. But since you don't like beating around the bush, I'll tell you that this is a covert operation by the S.G.C., and we're here to kill."
The truth was always better than a lie, especially when the person was about to risk their life on a mission with no return.
"From this moment on, your officers are under my command. You'll know the truth, and they'll be fed lies that will put them in the right places to avoid hindering the mission." Ethan was direct in his words, and the documents contained enough information for Noah to stop asking questions.
What Noah saw was the agency Ethan belonged to, what they were tasked with eliminating, and how this had kept the world turning without catastrophic events.
"We'll enter, search, eliminate, and the town will remain the same as it was before," Ethan said, checking the time, knowing that his team would arrive soon.
"I'll have to make some calls..."
"You can do whatever you want. Just make sure people stay in their homes when we do our job." After saying this, Ethan stood up. He had granted Noah Class 8 authority so he would know enough about dark entities and hoped he wouldn't go mad with it.
Most people couldn't handle it at this point.
But at least he expected this from people not connected to his world.
"One last question: what exactly are you going to eliminate?" Noah appreciated that Ethan had taken the time to inform him in advance, as it had at least generated a reasonable degree of trust.
Ethan turned around and said, "Something inexplicable, Sheriff Stilinski. It could be anything from a cat to a child. We won't know until we've seen its form."
With that, Ethan left the office, and at that moment, Noah received a direct call.
"Zz... Noah Stilinski, your payroll code has been activated in the S.G.C. program. You now have Level 8 authority, so you can access information within that scale."
"When will the agents arrive?" Noah asked, slightly nervous.
"Zz... The agents are entering Beacon Hills as we speak. Keep your officers informed about the following orders, which they must follow above all others, regardless of the threat level."
This left only one alternative: everything related to the S.G.C. was far more important than the safety of the people, and when that happened, the situation would be serious.
