Chapter 50: The Five Rules for Eliminating a Powerful Dark Entity
As Ethan waited, Hallie watched the police leave with her family.
He wasn't the type to wait for the family to understand, not when a Category Five dark entity was about to be confronted by him and his agents.
Many would die, but he would make it clear that humanity was not yet lost.
Strong, unyielding, and with a heart of stone.
"Ready?" Ethan asked Hallie, who seemed to have cried a lot.
"What am I supposed to do?"
"Rule number one: if a dark entity marks you, don’t run, don’t fear, don’t think about surviving, because that thing will find you and kill you," Ethan said, opening the car door for Hallie, who got in without a word.
You can’t escape evil; there was only one path—confrontation, and as a result, life or darkness.
"Since you managed to summon Slenderman, tonight my men and I will confront him to seal him if we fail to kill him," Ethan said, going over everything they would do that night.
Hallie responded bluntly, "He can’t be killed."
That was partly the truth many believed; Slenderman was thought to be an unkillable being.
But Ethan had weapons that had killed even the worst demons, vampires, and werewolves. It had been a long time since he used his supernatural power, which had recently reactivated, so honestly, he had a good chance of facing him.
Whatever the outcome, he would fight. Even if he had to die to win, he would.
Not because he was a hero, but because a man faces his path no matter what, and Ethan had made a foolish promise he couldn’t break.
"Zz… We’ve got the other girl."
"Zz… We’ve got Chloe."
Hallie looked at the armed men in front of her and asked, "Are you guys some sort of organization that fights these things?"
"Indeed. Now that you’ve been involved in a case like this, you’ll be sent to a special school where you’ll be trained in a branch that best suits you, and you’ll serve the S.G.C. as they all have," Ethan said as he checked the map to determine where to search for Slenderman.
They were all victims of dark entities. This was the simplest way to avoid depleting resources to eliminate the enemy and to always stay on the front lines of battle.
Field agents did their duty not for money, not to be heroes, or anything like that—they were all involved in this world for revenge.
Every agent surrounding Ethan was a rabid dog waiting to kill as many dark entities as possible, which is why they were known as the Bloodhounds.
None of them would hesitate to kill Hallie if it meant destroying a dark entity—that made them effective and extremely lethal against such creatures.
It takes monsters to kill monsters, and Ethan had made sure his main team were emotionless dogs.
"Is the police in position?" Ethan asked after taking another look at the map.
"Affirmative. The police have cordoned off the entire forest, and nothing inside it will be human."
At least the police would save a lot of time. They had badges and would be listened to.
"Curfew will start at eight o’clock tonight; no unauthorized person will be outside their home."
As for everything else, Ethan hoped there wouldn’t be any curious people looking for trouble.
As they returned to the mansion to properly equip themselves, Ethan called Stiles and asked, "Do you want to watch the operation from home?"
"Can I do that?"
"As a future field detective, you need to know about our work. Just don’t leave the house, because things are going to get ugly."
"Yeah, I understand."
If he didn’t do this, Stiles would surely show up in the operation zone, and in that case, they would be brutally killed.
Stiles seemed to have potential, so Ethan would take advantage of his talents to eventually bring him into the force.
All for the S.G.C., right?
