Hunter, Don't Shoot My Friend

Chapter 67: The Professor Knows Something

"This is bad; should we tell him?" JJ, who had just watched Ethan's team lose, looked at Bobby, who was asleep, and asked in a serious tone, knowing that the professor really knew about werewolves.

Ethan shook his head and said, "I don't think it's the right time. I'll do it calmly later."

There was no reason to be paranoid; everyone knew things in the world, but that didn’t mean they had to be involved in the program.

Bobby might know things, but he didn’t mention them everywhere. Maybe today was a distraction he doesn’t want to repeat, and that’s respected since he doesn’t care much about it.

It’s true that Bobby could be a great asset if he joined the program; it would make things easier at school, but he also wouldn’t waste time and energy on something that could go wrong.

Night fell, hours passed, and after feeding the female coyote, Ethan returned home. Just as he was about to go to his room, he saw Bobby observing the old weapons mounted on the wall.

"Are you a hunter?"

"Yes, don’t you see all the trophies I've hunted on the walls of this mansion?" Ethan approached while holding a drink, his steps firm without showing any sign of being drunk.

Bobby smiled slightly and said, "Not that kind of hunter. Do you hunt werewolves?"

"Only the bad ones." Ethan stood next to Bobby, showing no surprise; it was evident that Bobby knew much more than he let on.

"I don’t want you to touch my boys. If you come for them, you’ll have to go through me first."

"Your students? They’re just kids—victims only. If they don’t harm any civilians, they won’t be hunted. I deal with eliminating the most dangerous creatures, beasts that kill hundreds of innocent people around the world," Ethan said, pointing the way to his office.

Bobby followed without any fear, knowing Ethan had been a good man since he first met him.

When they reached the room, Bobby saw horrific photographs of various murders. "This is what you work on, right?"

"All of them are victims of different dark entities. I’m what many call a protector who watches over humans. I don’t like being this kind of person, but it’s what I was given," Ethan said, pointing to a wall covered with numerous images marked with a cross.

His biggest trophies were marked with that cross, his symbol that he enjoyed having to make himself known in the dark world.

He hoped that somehow the dark entities would find him, not the other way around, as he didn’t like playing hide and seek.

"Recently, we eliminated a dark entity that was kidnapping young people. It could have been your child or mine; that thing didn’t care," Ethan said, walking towards a wall where many children had disappeared at the hands of Slenderman. Unfortunately, none could be recovered.

Bobby sat down, and after a while, he murmured, "You’re brave, just like my friend, always thinking about helping others no matter what. I faced some supernatural things when I was young, and I still have nightmares."

"I appreciate that a lot. You could help me protect the young and make this town prosper for the better. If you help me, things could be much better for everyone. You’d be an asset and would find out about things." Ethan finally offered this to Bobby, knowing he already knew quite a bit.

Bobby nodded and said, "I'll just report. After classes, I’m fried, so I hope nothing big happens."

"Good night." Ethan watched Bobby leave, and when he was alone, he murmured, "Caretakers program, new program added to the informants' folder, Bobby Finstock."

"Zz… A new caretaker was added to the informants' program."

The mansion where Ethan lived wasn’t an ordinary home; it had the highest defense and enemy detection systems within a five-kilometer radius, which, by the way, was just trees.

His mansion was protected with artificial intelligence systems and dark entity detection, so all he needed was to mention what he wanted for it to be granted.

"Duty…" Ethan murmured with a slight smile.
