The Witcher: The last King of the elves

Chapter 19 - The Ancient Blood of the Sun Elf

"Your Majesty, why didn't we save them?" In the ruins shrouded in darkness, a high-level corpse stirred its spiritual consciousness and asked, quite confused.

The other high-level undead present also turned their attention to the enormous figure of the King of the Dead, the embodiment of death and darkness reigning beneath the ruins of the elven kingdom.

His strength had reached a considerable level, and in any human kingdom, such beings would be unprecedented calamities, causing disasters.

And in the elven kingdom, there were dozens of them.

With the appearance of a King of the Dead, rescuing that group of undead mages wouldn't have been a problem, and there was even a high chance of defeating those elven knights. However, the King of the Dead never gave any order.

He merely watched in silence as those undead mages were slaughtered.

What surprised the high-level undead was that they were initially going to follow the King of the Dead into battle.

But before even approaching the square, their king ordered them not to act rashly.

So far, the undead army had suffered great losses, and these undead were just watching the spectacle without doing anything.

"Let’s go, let’s get out of here."

"This war should never have happened."

"What a pity for these warriors who followed me!" The King of the Dead lamented the loss of the troops he had spent years accumulating.

The undead were suddenly very surprised. Were they retreating? The rotten undead quickly said, "Your Majesty, our army has not been defeated. As long as you act personally, it's only a matter of time before all the elves on the battlefield are killed."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"None of those elves can match you!" The other undead also tried to persuade him.

But the King of the Dead spoke in a wise tone: "Am I the only one who can see it? Now that a new Elf King with ancient blood has awakened, we should leave his lands as soon as possible."

"Ancient blood?"

All the dead souls were confused. They either had incomplete memories of their past lives or none at all.

Therefore, no information about the sun elves was known.

Everyone knows it.

The weaker the undead, the vaguer their memories of life become. Moreover, the vast majority of undead creatures don’t even have memories of their past lives.

They were born in the Bone Cemetery, and the soul fire within their bodies was purely composed of the rich undead elements of the Bone Cemetery and fragments of soul power.

This kind of dead soul has no previous life.

Generally speaking, only creatures that were powerful in life can retain fragments of their memories when they are transformed into undead after death, and as their levels rise, their memories of life gradually become clearer.

The King of the Dead, on the other hand, had lived a long time and absorbed a fair amount of general knowledge, so those memories that were once his could be recovered over time.

The King of the Dead thought for a moment, then shook his spiritual consciousness and said: "Elves are naturally attuned to magic, and that makes them powerful, but one with awakened ancient blood is a being who could even conquer worlds on his own."

"Among the elves of today, only a few possess ancient blood… But none is a King, no one but that elf can claim the crown of the elven race and declare a massive war against the human kingdoms."

"If word gets out, it would be only a matter of days before elves from all over the Continent gather in this dark forest… The ancient blood elf is the model any elf idolizes, so that means having ancient blood."

"When the Elven Empire still existed, the one who ruled the entire elven camp was the Elf King of ancient blood. His power was so great that it could even eclipse the glory of the gods."

"In the end, it is said that this Elf King got lost in the worlds he visited. Since his fall, the worlds united and humans began to descend upon this Continent like cockroaches."

The rotten undead said fearfully: "Your Majesty, do you mean he’s a Sun Elf King?"

The other undead were also terrified.

"Obviously, he must have been recently conceived and has not yet ascended to the elven throne. Otherwise, these ruins would have long been occupied by the strong warriors of the elves, protecting their king."

"Although the Elven Empire has collapsed, the elves have not been lost to history. There are still elves scattered throughout the world. If they knew that a sun elf was born here, they would undoubtedly flock to this place despite everything."

"However, even though he hasn’t truly become the Elf King, his identity is still that of a Sun Elf. The blood and talent of the Sun Elves are extremely terrifying. Their combat power is comparable to the purest high-level demons..."

Upon hearing this, the undead present immediately understood.

Facing him or not was secondary.

The main reason was that their ruler did not have the confidence to defeat Thranduil, the Elf King.

Even if he had lived for thousands of years, the fact that he didn’t wish to fight an elf was something that made them think.

"Your Majesty is wise!"

"We are not ready yet."

A ninth-rank undead knight said: "Besides, we’ve just been revived and are at our weakest point. There’s not much benefit in facing a sun elf head-on."

These words struck a chord with the King of the Dead.

He had just been revived and didn’t even have a thousandth of the strength he had in life.

He truly did not want to provoke a sun elf at this moment.

Only now did he think that if he had discovered this earlier, he wouldn’t have even started the war, and the army of 100,000 undead would not have been wasted.

"Your Majesty!" the rotten undead said, "We should leave as soon as possible before the sun elf finds us."

One of the undead asked: "Where should we retreat to? Should we go to the Palace of Bones? If the Sun Elf is that powerful, sooner or later he’ll lead the elven army to kill us."

"It’s no longer possible to remain in the city center, and the same goes for the outskirts." The King of the Dead said: "The ruins are not a place for us to stay for long. We have to go to the swampy area outside. That is our domain!"

The undead looked at each other.

Their original plan was to gather the undead inside the city, establish a powerful force, and then gradually capture the city’s outer ruins.

As a result, now His Majesty had directly expressed his intention to stay away from all ruins.

Did a sun elf really frighten His Majesty that much?

After a moment of silence, a spirit said: "We must retreat, we will follow His Majesty and abandon the ruins."

"That's right." The undead nodded repeatedly.

Without the King of the Dead leading the way, they didn’t dare to charge into the battlefield.

It would be better to obey the orders of the King of the Dead. After all, it would only be a matter of relocating to develop power.

At that moment, an undead shook its spiritual consciousness and said: "Your Majesty, there’s something strange about the elves on the battlefield. They seemed to break through too easily."

"Up to now, I’ve seen more than ten elves advance in rank during battle." Under normal circumstances, a breakthrough in rank requires meditation and retreat in a secluded place.

The probability of a breakthrough during a battle is extremely low and also carries risks. On the other hand, the elves on the battlefield were breaking through one after another, which was truly incredible.

"It has nothing to do with us."

"The appearance of this group of elves is strange!" The King of the Dead had also noticed it long ago, but he didn’t want to delve deeper into it.

He now only wanted to leave these ruins as soon as possible and find a suitable place to develop and improve his strength. In his prime, he was a supreme powerhouse.

"Let’s go." The King of the Dead soon turned around.

The undead didn’t hesitate and followed the enormous and terrifying figure of their king, disappearing into the depths of darkness.

As for the undead army still fighting in the square, there was no intention of withdrawing them.

What this world lacks the least is undead creatures.

No matter where you are, as long as you’re strong enough, you can easily gather an undead army.

And if they’re remembered, it will easily attract the attention of the sun elf.

It’s better to come silently and leave silently.

It would be best if we never met again.

"Your Majesty, the group of undead has retreated." An elf hunter appeared beside Thranduil and said respectfully: "The King of the Dead leading them is probably a Behemoth from the beast tribe, and his combat power is not low. But for some reason, he didn’t enter the battlefield, instead choosing to leave."

Thousands of years ago, before humans arrived, orcs were also a very powerful and intelligent race. The characteristic is that there are many types and branches.

The Behemoth clan is one of the main fighting races among the beastmen.

At that time, all races gathered in the capital of the Elven Empire to fight demons and evil creatures.

It wasn’t surprising that undead creatures, transformed from beastmen, appeared in the ruins.

"Let’s finish this quickly, there’s no need to follow them. For now, since we’ve revealed ourselves to the world, we must gather our troops and cleanse the kingdom." Thranduil replied calmly as he waved his wand.

The area within a ten-kilometer radius is under the watch of owls, and the King of the Dead and his entourage had been discovered long ago.

Thranduil had planned to send a strengthened version of his fire spear toward the King of the Dead as soon as he entered the battlefield. With its magical lethality, there would be no problem severely wounding him, if not killing him instantly.

Unfortunately, the King of the Dead changed his mind for some reason and didn’t give him that chance.
