The Witcher: The last King of the elves

Chapter 27 - A Legacy

Inside the treasury, dense figures appeared. Each figure was formed by the convergence of countless stars, emitting a brilliant radiance. Even without the fireballs suspended above them, they could illuminate the entire treasury.

“What are they?”

“Ghosts? No, there are no magical fluctuations or traces of a malignant aura. They are not a true form of intelligent life; this is more like a magical projection.”

Thranduil extended his hand, wanting to touch what was right in front of him, but what was there were mere illusions.

He speculated in his mind, but he still could not be sure he was right.

Fortunately, he had the system, so he asked directly.

Soon he received an answer from the system:

“[Host, they are not undead nor living beings of the mortal world, but heroic spirits. A product of spiritual will, or perhaps of spiritual power.]”

Then, the system explained to Thranduil in detail what a heroic spirit was.

After listening, Thranduil finally understood. “Every form of intelligent life has a unique soul and body.”

This is the foundation of life.

At the same time, intelligent life also possesses the power of spiritual will. This may seem illusory, but it exists. When spiritual will reaches a certain level of strength, it can manifest as a heroic spirit… Of course, this occurs after the death of the original body.

“In short… even if the soul and body are dead, the will still lives on in this world!”

The system said that, under special circumstances, heroic spirits can manifest. However, these heroic spirits that Thranduil had before him were only the primary manifestations of spiritual willpower and still could not affect reality.

Thranduil looked at the dense crowd of heroic spirits before him.

“Special circumstances…” In an instant, he realized that the anomaly in this place was him, an elf with ancient blood.

Right at that moment.

The dense crowd of heroic spirits suddenly turned their gazes toward Thranduil, all of them showing hopeful expressions.

Immediately after, they knelt before him.

There were countless beautiful elves, as well as groups of unicorns, tree warriors, forest giants, elf dragons, Phoenix guards…

Thranduil knew this was a message.

“End the battle…”

Whether elves or those intelligent creatures belonging to the elven camp, all showed respect and a deep desire for Thranduil to finish what they could not.

Thranduil’s ancient blood gave hope to these ancient elves.

Although Thranduil could not hear what they said, he could understand the eyes of the heroes, which were filled with infinite pain, but at the same time extremely excited, as if they were seeing hope.

Thranduil felt inexplicably sorrowful.

All these heroes should have been people of the Elven Empire who died in that war.

It is possible their souls had been erased.

Their bodies in this era should have long turned to ashes. But their will remained in the world, only to wait for him, or rather, to wait for a Solar Elf.

After thousands of years, fate had finally given them an answer.

“I swear in my name, that I will fulfill what you fought for day after day. You gave your lives for something that I will carry out. That is why you must raise your heads, look at my face, and see the certainty in my gaze.”

Thranduil raised his hand with a serious expression. He had great respect for these heroes.

What kind of willpower had allowed them to persevere and wait thousands of years for his arrival? Without such firm faith, they would have disappeared long ago.

The heroic spirits slowly stood up.

At the same time, the sorrow in their eyes vanished, and what remained was only an unyielding spirit of battle.

Some elves even raised their weapons high…

There were also fairy dragons and Phoenix guards who looked up and roared.

Thranduil understood and said solemnly: “All of you may rest, as the last King of the Elves I assure you that we will rebuild our empire, I will exterminate the demons and make the humans pay for everything they have done to us.”

“I will avenge the destruction of the ancient Elven Empire with the blood of demons and evil races!”

Hearing this, the heroic spirits immediately cried out in excitement. Though in silence, their emotion and enthusiasm could be seen.

At that moment, the heroic spirits knelt once more before Thranduil, without rising for a long while. Finally, their bodies gradually disappeared, transforming into countless stars and merging once again with the earth.

Watching this heartbreaking scene, Thranduil felt a deep pain in his chest. “I promise you, I will fulfill what I have said.”

Today, he had become the bearer not only of their dream, but of what many others expected from him.

Obviously, it was impossible to become the strongest King of the continent in secret and remain away from disputes.

There would be a battle in the future, and he was certain to win them all.

At that moment, Thranduil suddenly discovered that bright rays of light appeared on the floor of the treasury, and soon a huge magic circle was outlined.

“This is…”

Thranduil’s eyes were fixed on the magic circle.

His intuition told him he was about to receive a surprise.

As expected, when the magic circle successfully activated, a brilliant golden light slowly appeared in the center. Within it, a white oak magic staff floated.

He knew this journey had not been in vain!

Thranduil was fascinated and murmured: “Although the vault was completely plundered, the empire’s legacy still remains for me. This magic staff must be extraordinary!”

After a moment, the magic circle disappeared.

The white oak staff was still suspended in the air.

Thranduil immediately stepped forward and held the staff in his hand.

In an instant, countless ancient pieces of information appeared in his mind, including not only information about the wand in his hand, but also many secrets about that war.

“Damn humans, you will pay for what you did to my people. None of you are good. Sooner or later, I will kill you all!” Thranduil cursed loudly.

After a while, he looked at his new magic staff in his hand.

“The Scepter of the Solar Elf King!”

A symbol that represented the supreme authority of the Elven Empire and even the entire Continent!

At that time, the Solar Elf King was surrounded and slain by a demon with the power of a god. Upon falling, he used the power of space to seal this scepter in the treasury.

Only those with pure Solar Elf blood could break the seal.

If Thranduil had not awakened his ancient blood, this magic staff would probably still be sealed.

“At that time, the Scepter of the Solar Elf King was the most powerful artifact of the Continent, it is a pity that it is damaged.”

The complete scepter of the Solar Elf King measured about 1.8 meters long, but now it barely reached one meter. It bore a notable break at the end, indicating it had been forcibly cut by a sharp weapon.

“This scepter has long lost the power of the divine artifact it once was.”

Whether it was the artifact’s spirit, the source of divine power, the laws or the magical patterns associated with it, all had disintegrated and disappeared.

Only part of the staff remained, though magnificent, not as powerful as it should have been.

But Thranduil was not angry. Even in its defective state, the magic staff still retained incredible power.

Once he obtained the Scepter of the Solar Elf King, his strength would undergo a drastic change.

“What is the cost of repairing this magic artifact?” Thranduil asked, hopeful that he could restore this staff with the help of the system.

“[30,000,000 magic crystals]”

But the amount mentioned left Thranduil in silence, as he had not expected such an absurd number.
