The Shape of Water (2017) MOVIE REACTION! FIRST TIME WATCHING!!

Comments

Oops, accidentally posted before I was done. Anyway, Eliza, Zelda, Giles—they are all people from groups that are underestimated and looked down upon. The fish man is a more obvious statement for that and the way he is abused is a metaphor for how those same groups are mistreated. And I agree, the merman romance is weird and awkward. And it’s also beautiful. Eliza feels seen and wanted by this being. She’s found a dear friend as a well as a lover. It didn’t come in the form she probably imagined, but that doesn’t matter at the end of the day. Who doesn’t want to feel those things? That’s my ramble for this one. 😊 Thanks for another fun, thought-provoking reaction guys!

It’s a story about outsiders, people that society discards and discriminates against (the disabled, poc, gays) especially at that period of time.

If you guys haven’t checked it out, his second film, The Devil’s Backbone, is wonderful.
