Feeling the most creative I've felt in years

Good evening beautiful people,

I just felt like coming on this evening and sharing a little written update for you all.

How has 2023 been treating you all so far? For me it's been a whirlwind of emotions but I think in a really good way. Reiss' has been extended twice in the past couple of weeks so I found myself very frustrated that I am now going to be waiting an extra month to see him and that now he will miss my 31st birthday. It's only a small thing, and it's only a day, but it put me in a funk.

Between that and my on-going achilles injury I got myself into a rut the first few days of the year... then something beautiful happened.

For those that don't know I fell into YouTube through my love for Photo and Video. It's been my main creative outlet for years. I love more than anything have an active channel supporting the LGBT community but my first love was always Video in a more artist sense... but I haven't had any motivation for that style of content for years. The last time I made a video like that was when Reiss & I went to Cornwall in 2020 and even that took me months to edit.

But this week, in my rut, I stumbled across a content creator on YouTube who has made me fall in love with the art form of video all over again. Her name is Isobel Hope and her content is like nothing I've ever watched. It's so vulnerable and honest, thought-provoking and raw. I highly recommend her channel!

Watching her content inspired me creatively more than I've felt in years. It's made me want to step outside with my camera and capture memories again and create meaningful content.

Anyway, this weeks Patreon Exclusive will be a little different (if you don't mind)... I am going to share a bit more of a personal video for you. It'll go live tomorrow... and I'll be back with episode 2 of SKAM on the weekend.

Have a great weekend all - see you in the comments ❤️

Ok, thanks, Michael. I blame Young Royals and to a lesser extent, Heartstopper for being so good that I am a bit blinded to the qualities of Skam, but I will give episode 2 a go and then see…🤔

Ruth - I just feel I ought to mention that this season of SKAM does progress in a way that tackles certain issues which I can't expand on here as it would be in the realms of spoilers, but suffice it to say that they are tackled REALLY well and are an important part of the series. It's not going to be a straightforward love story, but I have a feeling you may change your mind about the series when you see how the story progresses as those issues are tackled. That's all I can say really at the moment without spoiling anything.

And a short video showing the spectacular new bridge which now spans the gorge between the two halves of Tintagel castle. If you are interested in engineering or history, this illustrates how the bridge was conceived and constructed as well as touching on the history of the site. If you are ever in Tintagel, I wouldn’t recommend walking across the bridge if you suffer from vertigo! Watch this to see why- and why the bridge is closed in very windy weather! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCHjpbyuuLw

Here’s a glimpse of the reason most visitors come here, the legendary site of Camelot, but it does give you a sense of our dramatic landscape here on the edge of the Atlantic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6czLfXMS6U

Ruth, more trips "over the pond" are on my bucket list. I've only been to Germany, and it was such torture to know we were so close to so many different European countries!

Bekki Babineau

It looks absolutely beautiful, Ingrid! ❤️

I live along the North Shore of the greatest Great Lake - Lake Superior, in the Port city of Duluth, Minnesota. We are a major shipper of iron ore from the nearby "Iron Range". Duluth juts from a rocky hillside, so it’s no surprise that within city limits, you’ll find rivers, creeks, secluded waterfalls and places where deer and bear sometimes show up. Not to mention the world's longestt freshwater sandbar, known as Park Point. Many sections of Park Point look like a windswept coastline, complete with sea grasses that might be found along an ocean. Here is a great highlight video: https://youtu.be/AiyIza1ZP1Y

Yeah! That's pretty cool... I'm from Rio but I've been living in Curitiba for the past 9 years... I really enjoy the city but I miss the beach and the warmth of people from "home". In this video you can see a bit of Curitiba. 😊 https://youtu.be/z5g5K7cAxME

For anyone not from the UK interested in where I live, it’s in the west of Britain, on the north coast of a mostly very rural county, Cornwall. Our only city is Truro, which has a beautiful cathedral, but otherwise, it’s farms, coastal resorts which are very busy indeed in the summer season but very quiet in the winter and little villages and market towns. London is about 5 hours away by train (when the train crews are not on strike, that is..) and a bit longer by car. It’s very scenically beautiful but it can be very bleak, which indeed it is now! 💨💦🌊 My house is surrounded by hills and a short walk from the Atlantic Ocean. One of the aspects I particularly love about this Patreon is how we’re all from very different parts of the world. ❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Maybe one day…🤞❤️

Graham & Ruth May

That’s a good idea! Will look at this tomorrow as we have only just got back from Truro. Went to see a really good tribute band, The Illegal Eagles. Sounds cringeworthy 😬 but it was excellent- if you like The Eagles. Cornwall is off the map for the real deal, but these guys were brilliant. 😁

Graham & Ruth May

Thanks, Douglas. I will bear in mind your advice. 🤔

Graham & Ruth May

I binge watched season 1, 2 and 3 to get some context before watching JRL's reactions. Season three starts out slowly. It really picks up in episode 3. I'd advise sticking with it at least till then.

Douglas Rayner

I’m pretty far away from London and it always nearly bankrupts me when I do go plus I work in a school so I’d need to be on a holiday! It’s a lovely idea though 😊

Audrey Gunn

It seems nice. 😊

Another idea is an online group birthday card, with an option to chip in for an e-gift card. Here is an option: https://www.grouptogether.com/us/group-cards

Bekki Babineau

I was thinking Zoom too. I have never used whatsApp, but am willing to learn. My 16-year old loves Discord groups? Again, not familiar with it. What if we all recorded birthday greetings for Jackie and someone coordinates putting them all together into one video. I would be willing to compile but DO NOT promise stellar video editing skills. I have put together a few videos in my professional life as a fundraiser. Hah!

Bekki Babineau

Whichever, as long as someone who’s savvy can talk me through how to do it! I am still a bit ‘only ok doing tech stuff on a ‘need-to-know’ basis’ but I could probably figure it out with a bit of guidance— unless someone else comes up with something completely different, that is? I t would be amazing to be able to actually meet up in London for anyone in the UK, although I am pretty far distant geographically but there are things called trains…😂 maybe too much for some, though and unless by a wonderful co-incidence those elsewhere were in the UK at the time, not suitable for them anyway…any more solutions or ideas? 🤔

Graham & Ruth May

I’m up for zoom or WhatsApp as long as I’m not at work while it’s on 😂😂

Audrey Gunn

I thought about a zoom call as well but the time zone aspect can be a challenge... We could try anyways... Or we could create a whatsApp group to be able to be in touch more easily and record audios, videos... Brazilians are all about whatsApp groups... 😂😂😂

Ingrid Machado Pena

Any ideas about how to celebrate Jackie’s birthday, beautiful people ?? Not sure how a zoom call would work given the many different locations we’re in and the time differences. I am still thinking…🤔

Graham & Ruth May

And the answer to your rhetorical question is ‘it’s another few weeks on top of 6 months, which you could do without’, so I think we’re all hoping that you’ll celebrate your birthday with us while you wait to celebrate it with Reiss and we had better come up with something worthy of your day…🤔

Graham & Ruth May

Jackie, you share your birthday with my daughter, Sophie, who will be 26 on 5th April this year. 🥰 x

Graham & Ruth May

I watched it yesterday, it was amazing

Audrey Gunn

Hey Jackie! I am looking forward to any content you decide to share with us! ♥️ And let's find a way to celebrate your b-day with you! 🙃

Ingrid Machado Pena

This deep talk is amazing!

Ingrid Machado Pena

Well, hello there, Aries! Your traits of passion, high energy, determination, confidence, being an initiator, and courage are showing! ❤️ How are we going to celebrate your birthday? Do I have any partners in crime who would like to come up with some shenanigans to celebrate the sayvthecworld gave us Jackie? 😁🙃❤️

Bekki Babineau

My birthday is April 5th. Aries, go figure! It really does suck about Reiss but when we haven’t seen eachother for 6 months already I guess what is an extra few weeks?

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Thanks, Audrey. It sucks, but it is what it is. We’re planning a nice holiday in May to celebrate my birthday and our 8 year anniversary.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

I cannot wait to watch this Lane & Ruth! I just watched the first 30 seconds it’s 100% up my street!!!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

When is your birthday, Jackie? Sorry to hear about Reiss. That's got to be frustrating! The new year has been good to me so far! I'm not much of a lover of "winter activities," which means I basically hibernate during the long winters of Northern Minnesota. It's a great time to enjoy jigsaw puzzles - which I do! Any other "puzzlers" out there? Looking forward to new videos! ❤️

Bekki Babineau

Good suggestion about the birthday! 🥰

Graham & Ruth May

Hmmmm…I will watch episode 2 and see how I feel about it. At the moment, I don’t feel very much, Lane! 🫤

Graham & Ruth May

You really should give it more of a chance than the first two episodes. I think it is every bit as good as Young Royals, just in a very different style and telling a different kind of story.

Lane Wright

Lane, I have also watched this earlier this evening and thought it was so good that I messaged Jackie the link.

Graham & Ruth May

Sorry about Reiss being away longer, but we can all help you celebrate your birthday, I know it won’t be the same but we’ll have fun xx Glad to hear you’re feeling inspired and creative again and I look forward to the Patreon exclusive 😊

Audrey Gunn

Looking forward to watching your Patreon exclusive video and it sounds like something different and interesting.😊 Episode 2 of Skam might be the last one for me, hasn’t grabbed me really, but I am going to give it a chance. Perhaps I am still reeling from the sheer quality of Young Royals. If I decide not to follow the rest of the season, I will still be here for anything else you post. ❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Congratulations on the new creative inspiration! And I of course look forward to the upcoming Patreon exclusive, as well as episode 2 of Skam OG, season 3! P.S. I just watched a terrific discussion about Young Royals on YouTube between Edvin, writer Lisa Ambjörn, and conceptual director Rojda Sekersöz about the show, and it is well worth watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2J7B28clhE.
