Reacting To SKAM - Season 3 Episode 2

Hey beautiful people... let's see what episode 2 of SKAM has in store for us... ❤️❤️❤️

Comments

By the way, The Cloisters is ok but nothing special in my opinion. Just finished it feeling vaguely disappointed ☹️

Graham & Ruth May

I hope you enjoy it, Audrey. It sits by my bed and I like revisiting it every so often. All the characters are compelling in different ways but it’s the ‘secret’ of the title which has several different meanings within the story that I find so interesting. The narrator is very unreliable and influenced by the rest of them in ways he doesn’t fully realise until long after it’s too late. I like her writing style but having said that, I didn’t like The Goldfinch which is more recent and has also been made into a film, which I didn’t rate that much either!

Graham & Ruth May

I have just used an Audible credit on The Secret History, I may have to listen to it first and go back to the other one as I wasn’t that far in on it xx

Audrey Gunn

Hi, Audrey. In the middle of If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich. Very good so far. The Cloisters looks very promising too- by Katy Hays, but if you haven’t read The Secret History by Donna Tartt, I really recommend it.

Graham & Ruth May

Thanks for the ideas, I have just started The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz, I’ll let you know what I think.

Audrey Gunn

Ok, solved! I have ordered If This Gets Out, which I meant to order previously as someone recommended here, before getting side-tracked - and The Cloisters which is billed as the new The Secret History. If you haven’t read The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Audrey (or anyone else reading this) it is an absolutely absorbing read, very well written in my opinion and so good that I have now read it 3 times, with decent intervals and other books in between. A very interesting, rather unreliable narrator-always makes for an intriguing experience…where you have to piece together what’s really happening, along with him. Highly recommended.

Graham & Ruth May

I’m the same, I finished my last book about a week ago and haven’t decided on what to read next yet!

Audrey Gunn

Yes, I have read that too. A wonderful book, one of the best I’ve ever read. I have voraciously devoured most of the suggestions on our Patreon now, I think so I am in limbo while I think about what to go for next…🤔

Graham & Ruth May

Okay, have you read Song of Achilles? Jackie recommended it a while back and I loved it too, I’m just heading out but I’ll have a think about what else I’ve read lately!

Audrey Gunn

Hi, Audrey. Thanks for these suggestions, but I have already read all three of them. x

Graham & Ruth May

I was just looking through YouTube and came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGhNlEeatIQ It’s Omar doing a cover of Ed Sheehan’s Perfect, thought you might all like it as well ❤️

Audrey Gunn

Have you read Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the Universe? Absolutely wonderful book that I fell in love with. If you have I have just finished both The one who dies at the End and They both die at the End. Both totally excellent books xx

Audrey Gunn

And now that I have finished that, does anyone have any suggestions for what I could read next??

Graham & Ruth May

Nothing to do with SKAM, but I have just finished reading The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schreffer. I can’t remember who originally recommended it on this Patreon, but whoever it was, thanks, because it’s really good! If you enjoy sci-fi and are looking for something new to read, I recommend it.

Graham & Ruth May

Hi Laura - I won't take that as a personal dig at me! 😊

Michael

Lane - yes, there are a lot of little gems like that throughout the show.

Michael

I agree, but let’s remember with affection Tao and Isaac in Heartstopper as a key part of Charlie’s friendship group and soon to be part of Nick’s support network too. ❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Thank you! I can confirm that there is, in fact, a ship name for our Skam duo...."Evak". I realize it's probably controversial of me to put them up there with Wilmon, but I think you might feel differently after episodes 3 and 4. Give it until then. I also love the focus on a central group of friends that are male. We're used to seeing these supportive friendships amongst females, in my opinion. It's less common among males.

Bekki Babineau

Hahah - yes Rosie. I wonder what was going through Isak's mind while all this was going on?

Michael

can I suggest that if you haven't seen the Skam season 3 trailer you take a look. it is well done and amusing. here is a link but you can just find it on youtube if the link doesn't work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiXONSITq_Y

Rosie Dickinson

I love Russell Tovey!!!!!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Yes, Ingrid. That’s exactly how I feel too. Edvin and Omar are jointly responsible for that, as well as Lisa for creating something so special. But also, yes, Audrey. I too have been watching some Heartstopper recently and I am really looking forward to season 2. As season 2 is going to be a lot darker at times, it will be really interesting to see how what’s in the graphic novels translates onto the screen and how Joe and Kit in particular bring it to life. As Tao already knows that Charlie and Nick are together since that was revealed in season 1, some aspects will be different.

Graham & Ruth May

Hi Audrey - your first link works fine. 😊

Michael

I’m with you on Wille and Simon, however, saying that I have been rewatching Heartstopper a lot this past week so maybe I’m still stuck on Nick and Charlie a wee bit as well 🤔

Audrey Gunn

Here’s Kit with another of my favourite actors Russell Tovey in Paris. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fm_xtyNaUAIFf8f?format=jpg&name=medium hope the link works 🤞. If it doesn’t, try this one: https://mobile.twitter.com/KitConnorInfo/status/1616776567467773952/photo/1

Audrey Gunn

It's really hard for me to see/imagine a couple on the same level as Simon and Wilhelm. It's very unique what they have, the chemistry and all and for me it has a lot to do with Edvin and Omar and the relationship they have. Again, unique.❤️

Ingrid Machado Pena

Sorry, that posted itself by mistake before I was ready! Not committed to SKAM at all…yet? Still don’t know.

Graham & Ruth May

Bekki, I am sorry for your loss. ❤️. Congratulations on your new qualification! 🎉🥂 I haven’t seen a couple on the same level as Simon and Wilhelm, but that’s probably just me, possibly Ingrid and maybe Audrey. Charlie and Nick come second. Not committed

Graham & Ruth May

Hey, I've only just noticed, one of my favourite artists turns up at the Loewe 2023 Fashion Show and is seen talking to Kit Connor. TROYE SIVAN - he started off 15 years ago as a successful Youtuber, then became a successful singer/song writer collaborating on stage with the likes of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa. Has moved into acting in the last few years and I loved him in his latest film called 'Three Months' which he starred in. Of course his stunning good looks has also probably been a factor in me following him over the years! Here he is arriving at the show which was posted a few hours ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16xRprRwrlY

Michael

I’m so sorry to hear about your granny Bekki ❤️

Audrey Gunn

Hey, Bekki! I am so sorry for your grandma. And congratulations on your master's degree! ❤️❤️❤️ Is that possible a couple as amazing as Wilmon? Oh god, not sure if I am ready for that! 😂 I will start S3 (with Jackie's reaction) tomorow.

Ingrid Machado Pena

He is soooo good! 😂😂😂

Ingrid Machado Pena

JACKIE! You get an "A++" for the pronunciation of my last name! 🤩 I'm a bit late to this video. My maternal grandma passed away earlier this week. She was my last living grandparent. My world definitely feels emptier knowing that. Grandparents, and especially grandmothers, are a gift not to be taken lightly. So many of us lose them before we are old enough to know their magic. I am so thankful that not only did I get to know my Grandma Leona's magic but that my daughters did as well. On top of that, today I celebrated officially graduating with a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership. YAY! Becoming a top supporter was a "no-brainer" and a testament to the connection you build with us....not to mention this amazing community you lead. I can't wait to see your future reaction videos to this series. I fell in love with Isak and Evan. I rate them up there with "Wilmon". Wait...is there a ship name for this couple? Now I'm curious!

Bekki Babineau

Here is a video of Omar Rudberg practising his acting skills ready for 'Young Royals' season 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8jCpLiNp6k

Michael

Okay, second time lucky!! I really shouldn’t watch videos late at night because I will invariably doze off! I have to say I’m with Ruth on this one, I like it, I’m intrigued enough to want to see the next episode to know what is going to happen, but, I wouldn’t put it on my go to list of things to watch.

Audrey Gunn

I mean, Ingrid, not Michael. Posted in the wrong place.

Graham & Ruth May

Not yet, but I will save it for my Sunday morning .

Graham & Ruth May

Yeah, it’s crazily quick, but my daughter just laughs at me and says it’s supposed to be like that.

Graham & Ruth May

😂

Graham & Ruth May

It’s when you hear something like this that you recognise that even if we have come a long way, there’s still such a long way to go. You must feel sometimes, Ingrid, that you are pushing a rock up a mountain. Don’t give up.

Graham & Ruth May

Ruth, that's great - thanks for the link. The only thing I wish with some of these tick tockers is that they linger on each scene just for a few seconds longer so that we have time to take in what's going on. I have to freeze frame it all the way through just to see who is in each shot and what's going on.

Michael

And this is Edvin's recap... A good one too. Edvin re-posted. ♥️ https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmRuRwLMTyU/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Ingrid Machado Pena

HA Ruth - yer got me! A smack on the wrist for me! I've since edited my message.

Michael

Ruth, have you seen him dancing a brazilian song? 😎 https://youtube.com/shorts/x7eeRbYhs8A?feature=share

Ingrid Machado Pena

Ok, now I am going to stop obsessing over Young Royals, at least for now, but this is a good one to end on. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7e1owJAjESk

Graham & Ruth May

There’s a longer version of this on YouTube which won’t copy and paste but it’s interesting as it shows a bit more of the fashion show with Omar in the front row and also more of Omar’s very efficient female minder! There’s a tiny bit of Omar singing but let’s face it, even the tiniest bit of that voice is great 🫠

Graham & Ruth May

You're very kind, Ruth! 😊

Ingrid Machado Pena

I’m still finishing S2 (two more episodes to go) and as I said it before, S1 was ok, I guess. S2 a bit harder to watch, but I must say eps 8 and 9 made me intrigued by Sana, William and his brother, so it’s getting better. But I can’t wait to start S3 as all of you say is the best one. Definitely we take as a reference shows that we wached before, as Lane e Michael said. Funny thing though I saw Hearstopper before YR and YR just stole my heart in every single way possible. They both are very diferente shows, I still like Hearstopper a lot but, YR move me in more profound ways. That being said, my point is, I guess there is an important cultural aspect involved too in why or how something affect us. We have a pretty harsh reality in Brazil regarding to the so called minorities. More specifically about the LGBTQIA+ community, I don’t know if you guys know that but Brazil continues, for the thirteenth consecutive year, as the country that most kills trans people in the world, with a life expectancy of only 35 years, particularly for trans women. A country where the former president said on national TV that nobody wants to have a gay son or daughter. And that it’s impossible to love them, you just tolerate them. That’s beyond horrible, but that’s what we have over here. So YR and even Skam (so far) in that matter hit close to home considering the ways young people think, behave and struggle with life in our reality. Heartstopper is the dream, almost a fairy tale, which is very nice and desirable but don’t feel real, you know? Anyways, just sharing a few thoughts with you guys! =)

Ingrid Machado Pena

And Kit is there too! I would love to see a picture of them together! But I would love even more to see a picture of Edvin and Omar... You know, spending some quality time together... hahahaha And yep not sure about the sunglasses too and I prefer his hair more curly. ❤️

Ingrid Machado Pena

Ingrid, as I have said before, your English is really good! 😊 I can muster a very tiny amount of Spanish, French and modern Greek, but perhaps unsurprisingly, only to say absolutely essential things such as ‘two beers, please’!

Graham & Ruth May

Thanks, Lane, Michael e Ruth. =) It's hard for me to write my feelings and thoughts in english but I'll try it again. And Michael, it was my first week back to work... Soooo, I wouldn't be surprised... hahaha

Ingrid Machado Pena

Just posted a clip below of Omar in Paris. Not sure about the sunglasses.

Graham & Ruth May

And here’s Omar in Paris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-jO4LXxr0o

Graham & Ruth May

Sorry, couldn’t resist being an English teacher 🤐

Graham & Ruth May

Ha ha, Michael but I think you mean ‘you’re’, not ‘your’ in ‘your coming through…’😏😂

Graham & Ruth May

Hi Ingrid - you're coming through loud and clear, but I'm guessing if your mind is a bit loose, then that would cause you to lose it. 😊

Michael

Now with that I can certainly agree! 😂

Graham & Ruth May

I can only see this one, Ingrid. 🤔x

Graham & Ruth May

One funny moment that almost everybody seems to glide over is where the one girl says something about being hung over from the weekend and one of the others says “It’s Wednesday.” That’s a high-quality joke there! 😂

Lane Wright

No, my husband is exactly the same, lol.😬 He thought I had lost my mind completely while I was watching season 2 especially. And no, I didn’t know that Omar was in Paris. He’s definitely fond of an outfit or two, so yes, probably for fashion week and I hope we get to see a few shots on YouTube or elsewhere. I wonder if Edvin is there or has other work commitments as I remember that they went to Milan fashion week together last year and there were some great pics and videos of them there. Ahhh. The boys.🫠❤️

Graham & Ruth May

A couple of other points that are worth mentioning are that there are quite a few comedic scenes in this series, I was laughing out loud at some of the laddish comments coming from some of the guys, particularly Magnus' childlike ignorance of how to treat women. More funny scenes yet to come with the lads, but it's a learning curve for them and it's great to see it played out in this show. Also, an interesting 'fun fact' if you like is that (according to various interviews with the actors) there were quite a few ad libbing sections which they kept in as the writer/producer thought that they worked well within certain scenes. Possibly more ad libbing going on in SKAM than 'Young Royals' or 'Heartstopper'.

Michael

I certainly see this one!

Lane Wright

I agree with you Lane (and not just because I want to be part of the great mind club haha) - I watched Heartstopper and Young Royals before I ever watched Skam season 3 (watched the other seasons later) and I was also intrigued which is what kept me going past this episode but by the end of episode 3 I was hooked and then became obsessed! I can’t decide which of the 3 couples is my favorite haha they all have something so special about them ❤️

Laura Ibarra

Clearly, great minds think alike! 😆

Lane Wright

Lane - you've done it again - I think exactly the same as you in your above comments.

Michael

Just for the record - The first name of the actor who plays Isak in the show is Tarjei and is pronounced Tarhay (the 'j' is silent).

Michael

Guys, I'm trying to make a few comments but to me they don't appear??? Are you getting my comments? I don't want to look like I'm loosing my mind writing the same things over and over again. LOL

Ingrid Machado Pena

This! I love those scenes, very effectful.

annanas

Of course, a lot has to do with what you saw first. I saw this season of Skam before I saw any of the other shows, so it already had a place in my heart when I got to them. And I’m also speaking from the point of view of someone who has seen the whole season. I was probably more intrigued than touched by the show at this point in the season, but by the end, I was pretty much obsessed with it. I promise, it is absolutely worth the journey.

Lane Wright

I know I miss young royals too. My husband doesn't understand why I'm obsessed with the show and Omar. Have you seen that Omar is in Paris at the moment most likely for Paris fashion week.

Jayne Riley

Well, I guess I should persevere with it, but the jury is still out, Jayne. Experiencing Young Royals withdrawal symptoms at the moment!😂🙃

Graham & Ruth May

Ruth you have to persevere with SKAM you will not regret it. I can almost guarantee you will love it by the end of the season and will want more.

Jayne Riley

Lol, never underestimate the importance of cheese!!

annanas

Yes, Lane, I agree that I can see how this show could have paved the way for Heartstopper and Young Royals, but although I quite like it, I don’t love it. Maybe I will by episode 3. I am not sure why I am feeling lukewarm about it, but it isn’t engaging my feelings very much. I can see lots of admirable aspects of it, but it’s leaving my heart untouched. I am trying very hard not to line it up against Young Royals and Heartstopper but especially with Young Royals, because it’s so recent and yes, I admit it, I am so fond of Omar and Edvin individually and as a couple, I am probably failing.

Graham & Ruth May

We seem to share an interest in Norweigan cheese 🤭 Sorry for ”repeating” your trivia, we must have written at the exact same time!

JLouise

Lovely film, too. Persevering with SKAM but not yet convinced. (I blame Omar and Edvin 😂❤️)

Graham & Ruth May

i loved the use of Kissing You. Such a beautiful song!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

I love how those little Romeo and Juliet references are used throughout this season 🫠

annanas

Sorry for the spacing errors! Too early in the morning for focus!

Graham & Ruth May

Re. Themusic playing over the slow-mo moment when Even walks past while the others are being told they should attend the party, that track is used in Baz Luhrmann’s film of Romeo and Juliet. Earlier on the video featuring Even that Isaak was watching, Even said thatLuhrmann was his favourite director.

Graham & Ruth May

One more thing that I think is a little ”funny” is how, in both Skam and Young Royals, all bad things seems to happen in pairs. Like in the end here Even and Sonja are kissing and instantly Isak gets the message about lying to his friends, just like when (one of many examples) Wilhelm sees Simon and Marcus singing on Instagram and a second later Alexander goes ”Schackmatt” (checkmate). So well done :)

JLouise

I’m from Sweden but have lived in Oslo (beautiful city) and I can tell you that Nokkelost is a traditional Norweigan cumin cheese that you cannot avoid even if you wanted to when in Norway- pretty good too! Nokkel means ”key”, hence the joke about forgetting cheese and keys…

JLouise

Ah Rosie, yes you're right about Henrik - he's 27 now and Tarjei is 4 years younger at 23.

Michael

About the teacher.. there are very few adults visable in Skam, and my interpretation is they really wanted to step into the kids world, to show everything from their perspective. I think the experience would be very different if we zoomed out and saw things through the parents or teachers eyes as well, if that makes sence. As Michael said, Skam was recorded in Norway (Oslo), but the languages are very similar. I am Swedish but lived in Norway for a few years and had no problems at all understanding Norwegian. I love it though, it somehow sounds happier than Swedish :) Oh and I've got this really insignificant trivia (apologies in advance).. the name of cheese with cumin in Norway is "nøkkelost", which literally translates to key-cheese.. so it's a word-game they've got going on there in the kitchen, about forgetting cheese, keys and particularly nøkkelost :)

annanas

Lane - you have written what I was also thinking.

Michael

To me, the show has an almost documentary feel, which explains the pacing and the sense that you’re watching real life rather than something written. That’s one of the things I most like about the show – that it feels like you’re watching real people rather than characters. I agree with the others who are saying that they don’t show adults faces intentionally (there will be an exception later on). From watching the earlier seasons, I can say that I believe Isak is aware that he’s gay, and has been for some time; at the end of the first season, some of the girls discover gay porn on his phone, for one thing. So he really has been struggling with it, but he covers it up, pretty well, at least until this season. It also appears to me that, like Nick Nelson around Charlie Spring, Isak is more himself when he is around Even. This show, particularly this season, really, to me is the precursor of shows like “Love, Victor,” “Young Royals,” and “Heartstopper,” even though each of them comes from a different country. It’s definitely different from any of them, but I feel that it sort of paved the way for those other shows, all of which I like for different reasons.

Lane Wright

The actor who plays Isak was around 16/17 in this season basically the same age as his character but Even is like 5 years older according to Wikipedia. Also Even's bedroom is the actual bedroom of the kid who plays Jonas which I just find amusing.

Rosie Dickinson

Jackie - ok, a couple of things. Your question about not showing some characters' faces reminds me of the film 'ET' where you never see the faces of the adults as in the police officers as they represent authority, so I'm just wondering if this is a similar case here. In other words they felt that the teachers are the authorities and maybe they just wanted to separate the students from that, hence the reason for not showing the adults faces, I will just say that that particular scene with the school teacher is repeated with other adult characters in future episodes, so it is a sort of theme in the show. This TV series was released in Norway in 2016. The actor who plays Isak was 16 (he may have been as young as 15 when he auditioned) at the time of filming and I think the guy who plays Evan was 18 at the time. EDIT: Henrik was 19/20 at the time of filming.

Michael

Okay, I need to watch that again as I fell asleep then just caught the very last seconds of it, complete shocker. I now have to go back and watch the bit I missed!!
