The Trails - A Review

Good morning guys,

I didn’t post this straight away because I really wanted to sit on how I felt about this production.

The plot: The play takes place a number of years in the future. Climate change has gotten drastically bad and killed off millions of the worlds population as a result.

Adults, or “dinosaurs” are being put on trial for their carbon footprint. We hear testimony from 3. The sentence? Death.

Our beloved Joe & Will play two of those jurors and they both do so with conviction. Both of their characters (but especially Joe’s) couldn’t be further from their respective characters in Heartstopper.

Joe excels with a chilling performance. He plays a rightfully angry young man behind family was torn apart by climate change and as a result he is left orphaned. His potty mouth gets many laughs from the audience but the underlying sadness in his delivery is almost overwhelming at points in the play. He has proven in this role that he is a very gifted stage and screen actor.

Will really surprised me. We saw a really beautiful and tender side to him in this role. For the first part of the play I was worried he was just a “one line support role” but his story expanded as he begins to emotionally support the lead juror.

The play flew by. At 95mins without an interval I was worried it would drag but the pace of the show kept strong with a hard hitting and abrupt ending. This production is very thought provoking but the main question I asked myself is: would I have watched this show without the attraction of Joe & Will? The answer is absolutely yes.

Gets 4* from me ❤️

Super proud of our boys for this one!
