Reacting to SKAM Season 3 - Episode 8

GUYS. If you've not been loving SKAM up to now... this episode is about to GET you.

Love, always ❤️❤️❤️

Comments

Yes Ruth, do that. It was an experience. I'm not a literary expert, of course, but the one thing I can say with some certainty is that it is very, very Swedish.

Dennis Verner

Well, Dennis, I have ordered my copy and I am waiting for it to be delivered. I’ll let you know what I think of it…

Graham & Ruth May

Well, just to balance the books a bit for us SKAMers, here is a montage of Tarjei looking super cute, both on screen and irl. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtxUhEokmWo

Michael

Uli - just curious, have you seen all 10 episodes of season 3 yet, or are you following it along for the first time with Jackie?

Michael

All the hints towards Even sticking out in some way. Him talking about death and his thoughts about living in a parallel universe, him being quite a bit older than his class mates (apparently coz he had to skip a year coz of him needed treatments), Even distancing himself from Isak, when Isak talked about his 'crazy' mum and wanting to stay away from mentally ill people. It must have hit hard on Even...

Uli

No I'm assuming it's that vocal performance but it's going to be available on Spotify

Jayne Riley

Jayne - is this the one that you're referring to? This video was released just a few hours ago. It's Omar singing live 'I'm So Excited'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WN7zyp_j1o

Michael

Me too. x

Graham & Ruth May

Great news, let's hope it is much better than the club version ❤️😊

Audrey Gunn

Wouldn't it be great if both his acting and singing careers really take off big time and he becomes an 'A' list celebrity. He just needs a major hit to propel him into the stratosphere of playing 60,000 seater stadiums. That would be awesome because he certainly deserves it. If the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes can do it, then so can Omar - here's hoping. But I also would love to see Omar continue his great success in the acting world as well.

Michael

Fingers crossed it’s way better. 🤞❤️x

Graham & Ruth May

The live version of I'm so excited is going to be released next Friday

Jayne Riley

Exactly, although I thought the dance video a while back was really cool, in my opinion, his voice shows to its best advantage in ballads. 🫠

Graham & Ruth May

His voice is good but the backing track is so loud that you can’t hear it very well. I’m all for him doing more upbeat songs but only if they’re done right xx

Audrey Gunn

😢 Same.

Graham & Ruth May

He deserves better because he has such an awesome voice. Hoping he gets himself some more effective promotion and a better record company asap. He does have a huge powerhouse of positive energy himself, though and I think he will transcend his management. 🤩

Graham & Ruth May

Yeah, I don't like that much... The live version is way better. 😕

Ingrid Machado Pena

Maybe I'm being a little harsh I listened to it again and his voice is good but I really don't like the backing track. I can understand wanting to make a club track but this won't gain new fans. I feel like his record company don't realise the talent he has and the potential he has. They need to put him with some famous producers. He also needs more promotion it's fans who are promoting him not his record company. However he has has been having meetings and writing recently and seems to be working with a big record company in Germany.

Jayne Riley

I agree Jayne, I was wanting the live version to be released, not a club version. I loved how he started of slow and then went faster, you could really hear how amazing his voice is, this just sounds like every other generic club tune out there (no offence to Omar) but I've waited all week for this and am now disappointed ☹️

Audrey Gunn

Here is the link to Omar's new song https://open.spotify.com/album/69GVLbp3X8NpMa5KnYDcUb?si=SBsWgJGSS1i-OUkPoNS64Q&utm_source=copy-link I don't like it that much his live version was much better. I think his record company needed to get better producers. I love Omar's voice but I think his record company are rubbish.

Jayne Riley

You can't watch season 3 without the other seasons because you need to know the relationships between the girls and how they are formed but I think it is worth the investment

Rosie Dickinson

Thanks! x

Graham & Ruth May

Omar is featured a lot in this Valentino fragrance launch video .https://twitter.com/escapethrustory/status/1633869157304238099?t=83xyePHjBi-vRS7Y8cwTsQ&s=19

Jayne Riley

Yes I will post the link here tomorrow.

Jayne Riley

Yesssss!!!! ♥️♥️♥️

Ingrid Machado Pena

I like to see if we're reacting the same way when I watch it, if I watch it by self I won't have that instant reaction when I watch it with you 😊

Audrey Gunn

Same here Jayne, I've been so looking forward to being able to add I'm So Excited to my playlist ❤️

Audrey Gunn

That’s great-and well deserved too. Please could you post the link to the new track here, tomorrow? Thanks, Jayne. ❤️👑

Graham & Ruth May

Omar's Mi Casa Su Cusa's song is really blowing up on ticktock and people are watching his music video on YouTube. Apparently it's been added to MTV music Monday and is climbing up the charts in lots of different countries. Hopefully it will start getting him radio play. His new track is out tomorrow I have already presaved it on Spotify.

Jayne Riley

I love Sana she always had wise words every season and even though she has strong religious beliefs she doesn't judge other people.

Jayne Riley

Yay!!! I am ridiculously excited to hear that! ❤️👑❤️(But I’m also looking forward to seeing the next Stockholm vlog 😊) x

Graham & Ruth May

Well you'll be very happy to know that this weeks exclusive will actually be YR because I need longer to edit the vlog!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Is it traitorous for me to say that I hope you are going to keep going with the additional Young Royals Patreon exclusives, Jackie? I know that you have more Stockholm material first alongside SKAM, but maybe after those? Please? x🤞❤️

Graham & Ruth May

You can always watch them on your own! 😉 But seriously, even if you don’t do that, I think you would enjoy also reacting to the final season, though I can’t tell you why without spoilers.

Lane Wright

it’s absolutely fantastic. By far the best episode to date. and that whole hotel scene was just 🤯🤯🤯

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Appreciate you sticking with me, Audrey!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Thanks, Ruth. Still need to figure out the details of the “when” but it’s definitely going to happen.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

I do kind of wish I’d watched the other seasons now so I would have all this context!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

absolutely soul destroying. I haven’t been able to get that image out of my head since filming. Poor kid.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

and like Isak spoke about earlier in the series his mother has an undiagnosed/untreated (not sure) mental health condition which is one of the reasons for the split and him moving out at 16/17

Rosie Dickinson

I want to buy this book but is quite expensive in Real and takes almost a month to be delivered. I am very interested in reading it, but I'm afraid my english is not that good... =(

Ingrid Machado Pena

The acting throughout that last scene though.. 🫠 I mean, the change in Isak’s eyes from total awe in the beginning, to confusion, fear, stress and devastating sadness at the end 💔 It's so well done!!

annanas

Ok, I will give it a go, though if it’s a study of her mind, it sounds like a rather cluttered one! I don’t think I can attempt it in Swedish though!

Graham & Ruth May

Ruth, by all means get it. Since it's more or less autobiographical, it's really more a study of the mind of Ms. Boye than of Malin.

Dennis Verner

I forgot to mention that it is set up in the first two seasons that there is trouble in Isak’s family and that his parents split up. He ends up living in the basement of the building that Eskild and Linn are in for a time.

Lane Wright

Hey, Jackie. I’m not invested in SKAM, but I am watching it for your reactions. What I will say about this video is how good it is to see you in the introduction looking excited and really fired up about having made your decision to go head on into making a new and creative working life for yourself, fears not withstanding. Even little things such as having the freedom to film in the daylight. 😊❤️

Graham & Ruth May

😂 Funnily enough, Dennis, I was thinking of getting that book…until I read your comment. I have read and corrected and graded soooo many rambling essays in my time as an English and English Literature teacher that I’m not sure I could cope! It sounds challenging! Maybe I should rise to the challenge?

Graham & Ruth May

Sana is a queen and she is sassy and guarded but her bark has always been worse than her bite. I love that she saw the text last episode, said nothing and then went looking for an article that she could send to Isak without making a thing about it. Her response about Islam was so perfect. Also this is where I started to love Magnus. He has no filter, says all the wrong things but is just really open to everything. Can’t wait until your response to next week.

Rosie Dickinson

Or if you prefer something a little more raunchy, how about the film 'An Affair' where he has a fling with his PE teacher and the problems that that creates. Tarjei Sandvik Moe was still only 18 when he filmed that in 2018.

Michael

Jackie - your reaction is exactly what I thought it would be - same as mine when I first saw it. Now I need to mention this as it's very important and because it's so subtle that most viewers don't notice what happens in the next episode, but it's an extremely important section of a scene where the singer turns his head very slightly towards Isak and they both make eye contact and it's at that point that Isak becomes aware of something (a bit of a eureka moment if you like). That's all I can say without spoiling anything, but I felt it was important to mention that because I didn't want anyone to miss that moment when that scene is shown.

Michael

I am soo tempted to go watch the last two episodes myself right now but I'm going to stick to watching it along with Jackie 🙂

Audrey Gunn

I can’t say enough about how brilliantly done this episode is. The tension builds throughout the last half of the episode, and the fractured chronology and periods of blackness, used to give the feeling of Isak sleeping and waking and sleeping again, is amazingly effective. Both of their performances are just perfect. As for your question about Tarjei: he has worked in film, TV, and theatre in Norway since “Skam,” there is video of him in an Oslo production of “Grease” singing “Those Magic Changes” (in Norwegian, of course). Here it is: https://youtu.be/8Eh1cYeCDvs

Lane Wright

Holy Shit indeed... I was watching your face throughout that whole hotel scene and you looked as scared and worried as I felt. I knew something wasn't right with him and it did cross my mind at one point that maybe it was Even that was controlling and not Sonja but holy hell, I was not expecting that outcome at the end. That single tear that ran down Isak's face broke my heart as he just looked so broken. 😢😢

Audrey Gunn

Thank you so much for your shoutout 🫶🏽 means a lot to me. Episode 8 was the one for me…. After that I was completely invested! The hole storyline is just amazing and something you don’t see enough in movies or tv shows…. It just pulled me in so much!

Having nothing to do with this episode but I bought English and Swedish copies of Kris (Chrisis) by Karin Boye. It's an interesting but tough read. Ms. Boye was the kind of author who believed why use two words when fifteen hundred will do.
