Young Royals Season 2 Recap & Hopes for the Final Season

Hey beautiful people,

We are heading back to Young Royals to do a little recap of the first 2 seasons and talk about what I'm hoping for from season 3.... can't wait to see you in the comments! ❤️

Comments

It's a really good one!

Ingrid Machado Pena

I've come across this interview/podcast with Edvin which was released about 3 weeks ago now. It's a fascinating one where the host makes statements and asks Edvin to respond. It all starts off fairly tame, but as the discussion progresses over the 48 minutes the subject matter seems to get more and more personal and does end up revealing things that have happened to Edvin at certain events. It's interesting as it's probably the most personal discussion with Edvin that I have come across. Here is the link if anyone is interested in listening to it. The subtitle translation is not perfect, but at least one can get the drift of what the conversation is about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbnL2El9Xo8

Michael

It was probably just a joke! Or maybe it has something with August to do, I think there are parallells between their book-discussion and August & Saras story as well..

annanas

Interesting - last time I saw Malte in an interview he had a hairy chest - now he doesn't. I tend to notice these things 😜. Maybe it's a requirement for acting in the 3rd season. I suspect that's the reason.

Michael

Yeah Ruth - I think some of us will be joining you! 🤣🤣🤣

Michael

Yeah. There are some nice messages about this online including instagram ones from Edvin amongst others. Omar couldn’t attend the awards event as he was on the set of Young Royals but a couple of other cast members that you’ll recognise accepted the award on his behalf. Music, acting, perfume endorsement, fashion…world domination next? ❤️👑❤️

Graham & Ruth May

OMG! This is even worse than Michael’s speculation!😧 At this rate, I will be entering therapy BEFORE season 3 even drops! 😂

Graham & Ruth May

Just come across this - Omar being awarded 'The Best Dressed Man in 2023'. Here is the video clip covering this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRdqalzfYEY

Michael

Same

annanas

Yes, I think Sara's loyalties now lie with her family and not with August and I can't now see that ever being reversed.

Michael

Nah, I don't see this turning into some crime drama :). What I have been thinking about is Saras comment about Karin Boye's death.. something like that fits better with the "nordic sadness" Ruth mentioned.. (although I hope it's just me having dived way too deep into the skam universe recently, thinking every little detail is a reference or parallell..)

annanas

I want to see August and Sara together too. She really started to bring out the good in him, and I don't think he tried to buy her love, I think he genuinely just wanted to make her happy because he liked her so much. Remember he wouldn't sell his fathers inheritance to stay in school in season one, and even with a gun to his head he wouldn't tell them it was Sara. I don't see it happening though.. As for Wille and Simon I think they will have a happy but realistic ending, kind of like skam..

annanas

I agree, annanas.

Graham & Ruth May

I think if August would hurt anyone it would be himself..

annanas

I totally agree, he has to be involved in some sort of drama, he can't possibly not be.

Audrey Gunn

The thing is Audrey, however the story plays out, surely there has to be some serious drama involving August in season 3.

Michael

That thought also went through my mind Michael, by the end of S2 August had lost everything, the Crown Prince, his reputation after getting found out he had not only recorded the sex video, but then uploaded it to the internet as well, possibly some prison time, depending on Swedish laws, the last of his money he had been keeping, the protection the Royal family had given him and probably for him, the worst of all, he lost Sara, the one person who had actually made him seem a reasonable human being. He is either going to lose it completely and try to get revenge on everyone involved or go the other way and try to hurt himself as a way of getting out of all the trouble/pain he's in. I just hope that whatever happens that Simon and Wille end up happy, preferably with each other, but as long as they were happy it could be with somebody else. That would make me very sad though 😢

Audrey Gunn

Probably - hopefully! 😊

Michael

Ha ha. Now it sounds like a Swedish version of the worst soap series finale imaginable, but thanks for not depressing us too much! I think Lisa will have something else up her sleeve.😉

Graham & Ruth May

Well, it's also possible that Simon could just get injured from shotgun wounds and make a full recovery and him and Wilhelm have a full on relationship whilst August gets 20 years for attempted murder and so everything does in fact turn out ok in the end. Is that a better synopsis? I didn't want to depress you too much this afternoon! 😊

Michael

Oh my God, Michael! 😧 That would be taking what I have heard referred to as ‘Nordic sadness’ too far! If you’re right, I am cancelling my Netflix subscription and entering therapy.

Graham & Ruth May

I'm just wondering if August, being the vindictive guy that he has shown us to be, doesn't take kindly to the beans being spilt about the leaked video and maybe is seeking revenge. He knows that he's probably not going to be the Crown Prince now, especially if he's found guilty of taking a sex video of minors. He has access to the shotguns at the shooting range, so maybe he's looking for revenge against Wilhelm and/or Sara. Would August go out of his way to commit murder as he now has nothing to lose? I'm not saying that he would harm anyone from the royal family, but maybe more like he's looking at harming someone who is very close to Wilhelm? It's just a theory and you're quite welcome to shoot it down in flames -HAHA! I do realise that an ending like that wouldn't go down well with audiences worldwide, but you never know! I REALLY hope my theory is wrong and it all ends with Simon and Wilhelm having a long loving relationship, either in secret or otherwise.

Michael

I have watched reaction videos to Young Royals from lots of different people, and it’s fascinating to often see vastly different takes on characters and events from the show. I do agree with you about both Wilhelm and Simon’s journeys, and that Wille’s decision to tell the truth in the speech shows enormous personal growth because he’s taking control of his own story. Personally, I still think Sara finally did the right thing by calling the police, and I hope she stays as far away from August as possible. But, of course, we won’t know what the outcome of that is until next season, and you might be right, that it causes more problems than it solves. The fallout of that phone call could easily go more than one way. In any case, I have faith in Lisa and her vision to feel confident that she will take things in the right direction, whatever direction that might be.

Lane Wright

I have so many thoughts about your thoughts! But firstly, thank you for the Young Royals return! It’s too long until season 3. Lisa creates so many intricate patterns and echoes in the show and I think that’s what I admire the most, the genius of the writing. It seems to me that season 1 was about secrets and self-discovery and season 2 was about seeing different points of view and healthy communication. Wille had to own how he had made Simon feel betrayed and in episode 5 in particular, he gave Simon back the power he had taken away from him in season 1 by going to his house and giving him all the information that would allow Simon to make his own decisions about their relationship. In that episode, we also see Simon understanding Wille’s struggles far more fully in the book discussion in class. Simon also spends most of episodes 1-4 of season 2 running away from pain by allowing himself to be manipulated by Markus and by denying his real feelings, but we all breathed a sigh of relief when he and Wille finally and fully saw each other at the Valentine Ball. I think we should establish a ‘No more Markus’ society, similar to the one founded for Ben Hope in Heartstopper. I hope that season 3 will be about unity, between Simon and Wille, but also about family unity, in that Sara has to repair her relationship with Simon and Wille’s parents have the opportunity to support him instead of trying to suppress the story. In some senses, they may not have a choice in that, as so many phones were recording what he said in his speech. I have a feeling that it will also be about justice, both personal and in the legal sense. August has to face some kind of reckoning, instead of just casually saying sorry to Wille to persuade him to persuade him to drop the matter of the video, then revert to threats to report Simon to the police about the pills. Sara is the only witness to August uploading the video and so she will have an important role in that theme playing out. In the wider sense of ‘doing the right thing’, what would be just and right for Wille and Simon, individually and as a couple? The only way I can see Simon being happy with Wille is if the ‘big thing’ you’re hoping for, reform or even abolition of the monarchy actually happens in season 3. Simon’s very first comment in class in season 1 shows that he has acquired the tag of ‘socialist boy’ from his elite classmates for a good reason. Even for Wille, could he compromise his beliefs and would that be right for him? The very thing that Wille loves most about Simon is his honesty and transparency, I think. Oh goodness, it’s stressful already, weighing up all the possibilities and like you, I just want them to be happy. If possible, Nordic gods, let them be happy together. 🤞❤️👑❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Hey Jackie! Hope you’re doing good! Today is a lovely sunny day here in Hamburg ☀️ I just “listened” to your video while doing the laundry 🥰 it was like a podcast ☺️. I loved your review and wishes for season 3. I agree with basically everything you said. There is a very lovely interview of Omar and Edvin where they’re also reflecting season 2 and talking about wishes for their characters and things like that. I would highly recommend you watching it!!! ☺️ https://youtu.be/ufoZ3mz5MRo Have a lovely Sunday 🫶🏽
