Reacting To Heartstopper (One Year On) - Episode 1 "Meet"

Hey beautiful people... Thus begins the road to season 2. I thought it would be super cute to go through and revisit the whole season one year on and see how we get on... safe to say I still adore this beautiful show and it still hits me in all the feels. August 3rd can't come quick enough!

These videos will be making their way to YouTube eventually but, as always, Patreon Family comes first!

Love, always ❤️

Loved this! It was just what I needed. Thank you!

I guess he’s also a neat contrast with Charlie’s Art teacher who’s so supportive and patient. And sadly, he’s also a realistic representation of some members of the teaching profession- I should know, because I was a teacher for the whole of my working life and I met a few Mr Langes over the years. Just as well it was only a few…

Graham & Ruth May

Oh he absolutely should be invited to the wedding!

Kurt Anderson

Some viewers jokingly commented last season that he was actually responsible for Nick and Charlie falling in love, as he was the one who organised the classroom seating plan. 😏

It’s a small thing but I’ve always wondered why they made Mr. Lange out to be something of a dick. He wasn’t like that in the book and it really didn’t progress the story so it seems like an odd choice.

I was struck watching this time through by the economy of storytelling in this show. I’m sure some of that comes from its origin as a comic, but it’s noteworthy how so much is conveyed in a relatively short period of time. This episode is only 25 minutes long, and yet so much is packed into that amount of time without it ever seeming rushed. I also noticed that the first line we ever hear from Harry is “Does he even like sports? Everybody knows he’s gay.” So his homophobia is set up from the first words we hear him say. I definitely envy you getting to see Bash onstage. “4000 Miles” is a terrific play, and I’m sure he’ll be wonderful in it.

First of all, can I just say how jealous I am of you going to see Bash in his play, you need to tell us all about it afterwards! Right, where do I start, I wish I'd taken notes along the way!! The attitude of Charlie walking into Hamlet House towards the teacher is so good then when he is told Nick is a rugby lad his eyes roll upwards but the minute he actually sees Nick his whole demeanour changes into a softer face and a large smile the their very first Hi 🥰 Then you see the total difference between Nick and Ben as every time him and Charlie pass in the corridor it is always Nick that says hi first. Now after watching the whole show before and seeing their banter once they really get to know each other and start falling for each other, it's really cool to see that they are like that well before then too, with the joking about the maths homework then Nick drawing on his hand, and the blue ink incident, none of it feels forced, it's just how they are from the get go ❤️ Another thing I noticed was when Elle had her phone taken off her at lunchtime she was told they didn't make exceptions for new students, but yet, I think it was in Episode 4, Tara, Darcy and Elle were all sitting on their phones in the canteen and nothing was said or done about it 🤔 It feels like at first Charlie was kinda starting to get on well with the rugby team, they all seemed friendly towards him, I don't know further down the line if it was because he wasn't managing to tackle or if Harry stuck his nose in and meddled? I wondered if the other boys were kinda scared of rocking the boat with Harry in case he started on them as well? We all know Tao means well but he really could have tried to come across a little better in the way he said things, he doesn't mean to hurt but that's the way it sounds a little. Finally, the little smile Nick gives in the car after reading Charlie's thank you is so cute, it's like he's suddenly realised how much he likes him and wants to try and protect him from Ben who is supposedly one of his friends. It is sooo good to watch this through with you again Jackie, getting to know your thoughts a year on, roll on episode 2 😊😊

Thanks for this opportunity to look back over Heartstopper.🥰 I never get tired ofNick and Charlie’s story, but I also love how important friendship is in the show and how much emphasis it gives to support networks, especially when we start to see Nick joining Charlie’s friendship group later on. A couple of things about this episode. Joe gave an interview explaining that in the scene of him running really fast on the sports field being watched by Nick, the other runners kept catching him up and they had to be told to run more slowly as Joe couldn’t maintain the huge gap there was supposed to be.😂 More seriously, I do notice more now how good an actor Bash is. You can really see how much Ben actually is powerfully attracted to Charlie in that scene where he’s in the locker area and Nick intervenes to rescue Charlie. Yes, Ben is very toxic but he’s also a very conflicted kid who isn’t lying when he says he’s figuring out his sexuality. Not defending his behaviour towards Charlie, just saying that Bash brings out both the toxicity and the real inner conflict of the character. It’s horrible but believable and compelling.

that first glance at nick will always be so, so special. the way the music swells, the lens flare… everything.

I still get all the warm feels when Nick says Hi to him when they pass each other in the corridors. The first time I watched it thought, wow he is so genuinely kind and sweet 🥰 and from that moment on(I didn’t know the books at that point) I was very sure that this wouldn’t be an „enemies to lovers“ type of show. And I was very happy about that!
