2023-06-29 00:16:59 +0000 UTCI love being able to see their internal thoughts through their deleted texts. I think this is the first time I've seen Nick look at himself in the mirror while texting Charlie and I wonder if that's him looking at himself thinking why do I care so strongly for this guy. Echo does an amazing job at playing Nellie and the cuteness is second only to Nick and Charlie. I think that as gays, no matter how much some is a massive heterosexual, ginormous heterosexual or the straightest person we've ever seen, we always want to see something more in them. I feel like Miss Greenwood, whose heart seems to be in the right place, has actually asked Tara to look after Elle. The awkward confrontation about it and then Darcy saying that Tara said Elle had no friends. As someone who lives in a place where it doesn't snow, that snow could have been real, I wouldn't have any idea. After that incredibly cute day at Nick's when Sarah says you seem much more yourself around him, Nick thinks for a moment and then has a slight smile. The way that Nick continues to fall hard for Charlie at Charlie's place is just the cutest. The way he looks at Charlie when he's holding his hands playing the drums. Wanting to hold Charlie's hand during the movie. The struggle within Nick of feeling so right hugging his future boyfriend but being confused about what that means for everything he thought he knew about himself. Kit does an extraordinary job of showing the emotion, the confusion and uncertainty Nick feels on this journey of self-discovery. Why Am I Like This is was the perfect choice for this episode. I like to think that it's a hidden bisexual message as it's sung by Irish bisexual singer Orla Gartland. I also like how you and Nick are wearing matching blue tshirts in this video.

2023-06-20 10:59:46 +0000 UTCI feel like he’s using “straight” in that kind of slang way people use it sometimes, where they substitute it for “cishet.” Kind of like in internet meme culture, when people say joking things like “are the straights okay”, they’re usually referring to cishet people. It’s inaccurate, and arguably invalidating to trans and non-binary straight people. But it is something I see in queer spaces a lot.

2023-05-12 02:56:31 +0000 UTCI just thought of something. Our guys talk via Instagram on their smartphones, right. But beyond that there doesn't seem to be a single computer in use at either Truham or Higgs. Students don't carry tablets. Teachers don't have them. You never even see a monitor in the background, not even a glance, not even in the library. In 2022. This is weird.

2023-05-09 12:48:55 +0000 UTCI was just asking myself that question the other day, Will I ever get tired of this show? I have watched season 1 a ridiculous amount of times, more than any other show ever and I just don't get tired of it. It has resonated with me more than any other show in a very long time. Looking forward to episode 3!

2023-05-08 02:26:38 +0000 UTCEarly on, there were some rather mean comments about Joe's looks when the series dropped. Watching the scene when Nick asks Charlie to come to his house and meet Nellie, Joe is not just good looking he is literally beautiful. Such an extraordinary young man.

2023-05-07 20:20:43 +0000 UTCIt is. It’s a workshop they did together via Zoom for the National Film & Television School in Wales. It is a nerdy delight. So many insights into the technical and artistic aspect of the show.

2023-05-07 17:35:41 +0000 UTCFavourite things from this episode include Nick touching Charlie’s hair and quickly changing ‘You look’ to ‘It looks’, the hug as Nick is just about to leave Charlie’s house and how he clears his throat nervously and hurries off, unable to look Charlie in the eye, with a ‘See you Monday’, like they’re just two friends from school who have hung out for a while and nothing else is going on at all. It’s so well acted by both of them and Kit does such a great job of portraying Nick’s confusion mixed with his blossoming attraction to Charlie. I don’t know if I am alone in this, but certainly when I watched Heartstopper for the first time, I really saw it as Nick’s journey and I am thinking now that it’s just as much Charlie’s journey from the toxic relationship with Ben towards a trusting relationship with Nick.

2023-05-07 16:12:59 +0000 UTCIt’s a little nitpicking of me but I’ve always been a little bothered by Tao saying, “as your token straight friend”, because it’s not really accurate. Elle is a woman of trans experience but she’s also heterosexual. Gender identity isn’t the same as sexual orientation.

2023-05-07 14:03:28 +0000 UTCSeveral random thoughts: The fact that golden retrievers and border collies are two of my favorite breeds of dog makes Nick and Nellie especially resonate for me. And though it certainly wasn’t my specific journey, seeing Nick realize he has feelings for Charlie that he has never had for another boy before, and seeing that happen slowly, and so believably, is a tribute to how good an actor Kit is. That rainbow lens flare is an example of how repeated viewings of this show constantly reveal more of the artistry behind it. I’ve got Radio Silence on my Kindle app now, so I need to get it read soon!

2023-05-07 13:40:40 +0000 UTCThis episode contains some lovely parallels. The shot of Charlie standing outside of Nick’s house with his finger hovering over the doorbell in a moment of nervous anticipation at entering Nick’s world (and his own future) is mirrored in the final shot of the episode with Nick’s finger hovering fearfully over a button that literally says “Enter” as he’s about to delve into Charlie’s world and his own voyage of self discovery. This is also their first of many hugs, and that look of mild panic on Nick’s face when Charlie returns the embrace is paid off so beautifully in Episode 8. The shot of the boys reclining on the beach just before it cuts to Nick entering the house to have his coming out talk with his mum. The camera lingers on Nick smiling with his face to the sun and his arms wrapped around Charlie while the first line of dialogue from the following scene plays over that image. He shouts out “I’m home!” The first time I noticed that, I openly wept. Such a brilliant moment, and a beautiful directing/editing choice.

2023-05-07 10:05:31 +0000 UTCI think this is my favourite episode as well, love the two house visit parts and it's also one of the few parts we get the whole group of 4 together in the same scene ❤️
