I’m pretty sure the Sesame Street characters were named for the characters of Bert and Ernie.

And also that you're intending to watch it every year, because the more you do the more nuanced jokes and interplay you'll pick up, it's so crammed full. Fun fact: that famous running through the snow scene at the end was filmed during a heatwave in July if you can believe it! Oh, and Uncle Billy's string knotted on various fingers used to be a common way for someone to remind themselves they had to go somewhere or do something in the near future. Merry Christmas!
