In Germany the name Axel is also used as an own name which has no relation to Alexander (how you said). Nickname for Alexander is mostly Alex which is also used in Druck by others like his friends and Kiki. I guess it's the same thing as in the OG where Nora calls William Wilhelm. I believe in one of the last eps of Season 1 Mia explains to Hanna that she read sth about that technique of using a different name. I think Mia choosing a different name (Axel) everytime she talks to Alex or about him is also to annoy him and state how "uninterested" she is by not even saying his name right :)

I had a Dodge Challenger as a rental while my car was being worked on years back, that had power (especially coming from my little Civic) but I didnβt realize initially that it was like a βmuscle carβ until every time I pulled into a gas station or parking lot, I would get a surprised look from a lot of the male population that this girl with bright colored hair (it was either pink or purple) was driving this beast of a car.

And the end result gives Mia more of a reason to say yes to the βdateβ with Alexander (in Skam OG she has already agreed to meet him by this point). Iβve always been a bit confused by Alexander being nicknamed Axel, since from what Iβve seen online, Axel is a Scandinavian form of the name Absolom, not Alexander. The final scene of the episode is very similar in both versions, btw.
