Reacting to Joe Locke singing in Sweeney Todd

Hey folks,

I'm sure some of you have already seen it but here is my latest reaction to the incredible vocals from Joe Locke in Sweeney Todd!

Love, always ♥️

Reacting to Joe Locke singing in Sweeney Todd

Joe is amazing 😍😍 Have you ever heard Kit singing? (I am thinking about the Paolo Nutini cover which is on youtube)... I am no expert and I am sure the two performances can't compare, but I do think Kit has a really beautiful voice (when he speaks) and I would be curious to hear your opinion on his singing abilities ☺️

You are so right about the way Joe hits the “gonna” in that last phrase. [The following is my “gut reaction” analysis, which I think is perfectly fine in this case.] Sung more evenly it’s a simple statement of futurity: “It shall happen that nothing will harm you.” The way Joe sings it, giving a push to “gonna,” alters the meaning of the phrase. Now it’s “I shall SEE TO IT MYSELF that nothing harms you.” It’s a tiny, tiny change of emphasis, but what a difference it makes! It’s magical.

I have listened to all of the recordings multiple times. I'm just in absolute awe of his voice! I mean we knew he was a good actor but holy crap that voice. Thank you for breaking it down like that for me! I'm lucky enough to have tickets to see him on Feb 21!

This was great, of course - what else would you be giving us but something great? I’ve seen a few productions of the show, but as far as recorded versions am mostly familiar with the original Broadway cast recording, with Ken Jennings playing Tobias. And give me a chance to throw in this little personal tidbit: when I was in high school, I saw a couple of shows at our local professional dinner theatre (where I eventually ended up doing a number of shows myself) with an actor in the cast named Jack Eric Williams, who, of course went on to be the original Beadle Bamford on Broadway.
