Reacting to Young Royals Season 3 - Episode 1

Goooooood evening beautiful Patreon family!

It took a long time but we finally got there!!!! Episode 1 of the final season of Young Royals. Here's to a very emotional couple of final weeks with one of our favourite shows. Let's give it the send off it deserves!

See you in the comments,

Love, always <3

Reacting to Young Royals Season 3 - Episode 1

Comments

And yes, the importance of friendship relationship is something I miss terrible in the media, YR is the exception and I love how they are portraying it through Sara and Felicies relationship!!! It feels so natural, not at all forced, entangled in the main storyline and not as a sidestory or sidelined, and also love that their platonic love for each other (and the pain that can come with it) is not put in a queer format, like it would be if either of them where aro/ace - even if that had been outstanding too haha, we def. need more representation

Nicky Van den Bosch

Okay, I know I am late, very late to the party and I had no intent whatsoever to comment on these videos because I'ts been two months already (haven't been able to watch them earlier) butt Jackie, I enjoy your reactions soooo muuucchhhhh!!! The Loveless reference, you're quoting alice's book!! This is pure gold content, chef's kiss, premium and all of the above!!!! keep it up!!, ps: it has been a while since I catched up wih your project and hearing you got merch just is fantastic, the hoodie looks soooooo goood, love the ace hug, def gonna get it!!!

Nicky Van den Bosch

I love you comparing Heartstopper and Young Royals. There are many beautiful similarities and so many of us love both series. And you always pause at the same places I would pause, and you talk about the scenes the way I would, had I someone to discuss the show with. I’m watching it for a third time with my husband and he hates pausing so watching you and hearing your commentary is very cathartic.

Monique

Yes and it makes me nervous 😭

Jackie-Ross Lavender

That definitely changes the feeling of the sentence!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

You are right Jackie, Wilhelm had more muscle this season. Edvin had an actingjob which started just a little while after Young Royals last filmingday. Edvin played a soldier in Slovakia and had to build up his body for that role if I remember the interview correctly.

Marstrand

So I don’t know if someone mentioned this already but Wilhelm and Simon were 16 years old when they were filmed. Wilhelm is now turning 17 and is expected to be able to take over the throne at 18. So some timelines: The film was leaked on the 13 th of December. The christmas break is til around the 10 th of January. The speech was held just before springbreak which is around the beginning of April. The springbreak is one week long in Sweden. The ”Valborg” celebration in episode 3 is the 30 th of April and graduation is around 2-10 of June approximately. The scen in Wilhelms bedroom between Wilhelm and Simon is wonderful ❤️.

Marstrand

So true Rut and in another article Omar said that in season 3 Edvin and him had more freedom in the intimatescens. If it said touch Wilhelm’s neck in the script Omar could deside how to touch Wilhelm’s neck. That’s cute 🫶🏻.

When Wille says "This is what we want, right...", he continues by saying "...to not sneak around" but they didn't translate that.

Natasja Mrdjanov

No, 16 too.

Natasja Mrdjanov

who else noticed the Karin boye poem Wille puts on his wall?

veri✨

I totally agree with you, Ruth. We tend to focus on Wille's social privileges and forget about how emotionally neglected he is. His lack of social and emotional awareness, in my opinion, comes from this place of no value as the "back up" that he comes from. People expect him to show a behavior that he was never introduced to. Simon is the one who shows him a lot of new feelings, views and possibilities. I''ll probably repeat myself a lot about this along the way...

Ingrid Machado Pena

During the settlement hearing no one even mentions their age and that it was child pornographie. I wonder why, they did that in the preavious seasons. It irritastes me so much! Great reaction!

Mel Baker

I have to add that I think if Wille is impulsive, it’s coming from a place of confusion and vulnerability, that he’s both never been able to freely express his true self until he met Simon and also that his true self has been disregarded by those people who should have always valued it- his parents. The connection he has with Simon for the first time allows him to do what he feels in the moment.

Ruth May

That should be ‘public life’, not ‘public like’, btw!

Ruth May

I’m just watching your reaction at last.. I think that parenting, or the lack of it, has been a theme running through seasons 1 and 2; it’s clear that it’s going to be an emphasis in season 3 as well, given that the first scenes we see in this episode are juxtaposing the cold , ‘I am not even going to look at you’ treatment of Wille by his mother with how Linda reassures Simon and tenderly holds his face in her hands. We also see August with his stepfather, whose approach is to make a crude joke about August’s responsibility and we’ve seen previously how August immediately says, ‘He’s not my father’ when his mother and this guy are at the school for the parents’ event. Wille’s father hardly speaks in the first two seasons and here, he’s preoccupied with reassuring his wife rather than taking any notice of his son. When the Queen speaks to Wille and August together and says they should put it behind them now that the settlement has been agreed upon and signed, she’s looking at Erik’s photo and is calling his name as she collapses. All this defines exactly how lonely Wille’s position really is and how unloved he must feel. No wonder his love-language has always been touch in his relationship with Simon. The other aspect that’s emerging here, I think, is that while Wille and Simon supposedly aren’t a secret any longer, they are going to be susceptible to manipulation and a kind of censorship by the Royal Court. They’re going to be expected to ‘play the game’ to suit the image of a ‘more tolerant Sweden’, pretty ironic when you think about the attitudes we’ve seen so far. Here, Farina as a representative of the Royal Court is already making it clear that they aren’t really free to be themselves and that there’s likely to be both intense scrutiny and intense pressure on them as individuals, as well as on them as a couple. This may be understandable from the Royal perspective or even sensible to protect them from media intrusion, but it’s not freedom-and the clash between the private, personal life and the demands of public like is a dark thread that runs through season 1 and 2 already. So far, not so good would be an understatement if I’m reading this episode accurately…

Ruth May

Hmmm… That’s interesting… that maybe he’s so mean to the 1st years cuz they didn’t get the same initiation he did? I had always wondered if it was internalized hate-that he’s gay himself (following similar thread as Ben Hope in Heartstopper)??

KL M

Was Simon only 15?

MIchelle Arbery

Hmmmm got me thinking. Also wondering if Vincent is so horrible because he was beaten at the horrible initiation? Maybe?

MIchelle Arbery

Should I read anything into Simon holding his key chain while holding hands with Wilhelm? His keychain is "giving the finger" ????

MIchelle Arbery

Am I the only one that gets the feeling that August may have been the one to tell the paper about the initiation? Like his face and body language and response is just so flat (huh). And at this point he has nothing left. No Sara. No home. A Monarchy that hates him. He is realizing his friends are all certified a**holes. Like he has always gone into destruction mode in the past when things haven’t gone his way, so I just get the feeling that he may also be the “former student” that came forward… anyone else?

KL M

I could have sworn I could hear just the two of them breathing in that moment too-like it has always been w their chemistry 🥵🥵🥵🪭🪭🪭💜💜💜

KL M

Loooove watching this with you 🩷 cant wait for the other episodes. Thanks for giving me my happy place

Katie Greet

When they kiss at school I interpreted the sound going away as them just being in their own little bubble.

IAmom

I second what Lane Wright said (earlier) and I say the same; ("-how long has it been?") Some days or a week, max two weeks, (and it's all in the same school-year, September to June, 16 yo). The lady in the car is Farima, she appeared in the previous seasons too. And yes, they (Farima and J-O) should definitely talk directly to Simon.

Matt Allen

Thatˋs it👍🏻 I agree with you. It is really fascinating.

Anja

One thing I can say about this episode and the rest of the episodes available for season 3 without fear of spoilers- because it’s true of everything we’ve seen in Young Royals so far anyway- is that although all of the acting is truly excellent, in my opinion , something really magical happens when Edvin and Omar are together on screen. The affection and trust they feel for each other in real life manifests in the incredible chemistry between them in their roles and in their intimate scenes in particular, it’s a world away from much of what I have experienced in other shows in which it feels staged. I can remember an interview that Omar gave after season 1, in which he said, ‘I trust Edvin’ and Edvin in turn spoke of Omar’s bravery in being willing to really go there in demanding scenes when they were discussing how they could approach it together. Their bond and the ways in which they are connected and able to communicate that to us I think I will remember for a long time.

Ruth May

I envy you the opportunity to go! I am hopeful that he might come to the UK for a concert in the future. I will have to establish an ‘Omar savings fund’ to make sure I can afford it, if it happens! 🤞

Ruth May

The dramatic tension and the character development in this show are fascinating. In this episode we are taken on a roller coaster ride From feelings of euphoria to fear of what will happen next. It is also very empathetic to all the major characters. It’s beautifully acted.

Jon Anthony Carsello

I really don't mind you pausing and speaking a lot, YR is a show where a lot happens very quickly and pretty much every detail and dialogue matters. So I understand your need to pause and to talk about it to take all the new information in. I also love your commentary, I feel like you're really adding to the 'conversation' of what is happening in the scene. Great reaction! Can't wait for more ❤

Kaly

S1 Ep1 Wille said "... it was a tough year since my confirmation" which imply that he was 16 when he enrolled Hillerska.

miniadler

Another thought… I have a few different “readings” about a few things. I agree with Rowan about “this is what we want" from Wille. I think he is talking about not being a secret, to be able to kiss in front of everybody and so on. Of course that inevitably would attract a lot of attention. I feel the difference of backgrounds speaks loudly of the way the boys behave, feel or deal with things and even though Wille has a lot of privileges, his position on the system and the way the Royal Family actually treats him, in my opinion, contributes hugely for his impulsive behavior. That’s the way he gets noticed. As Dennis pointed out Wille was so unimportant that it didn't matter anything he did before as long as it didn’t cause any harm to the Royal Family image. Now the Royal Family has to deal with him as the Crown Prince. They don’t care about Simon, they don’t even really care about Wille as long as he makes everything work out for the sake of the image the Royal Family wants to keep. Wille just accepts that’s the way things are and, sometimes, gets lost in it. I feel it's easier for us to get Simon's point of view but it's not always easy to get Wille's perspective.

Ingrid Machado Pena

Hey Ruth! Yeah I know. And it’s even near my hometown 🤩 Though it’s a festival with several artists, which except for Zara Larsson i don’t really know or listen to, so I think he’s probably performing at most 5 to 6 songs. One ticket retails for almost 100€ so I’m not sure if I wanna spend that much money… we will see ☺️

Frances

Hey, Frances 😊 Did you hear that Omar is doing another concert, in Germany? Not sure about dates, though…

Ruth May

I have the same feeling. The way Wille has been treated, basically his whole life, speaks loudly about many things.

Ingrid Machado Pena

I've watched all 5 episodes yesterday and it is hard to even answer some of your questions without mentioning what comes ahead. I have this feeling that YR, sometimes, is less about the ecos, parallels and things that are actually shown and more about what's not there. What they are not saying when they say this or that. I need time to process what I've watched so far... Thanks for the reaction, Jackie.

Ingrid Machado Pena

It is an incredible chemistry between these two🤩

Anja

Thank god I‘m free on mondays🙏🏻 I watched all 5 episodes yesterday😃 Canˋt wait to see your reactions!!

Anja

I actually don’t know what to say, I’m going to sit on it and think throughout the day about what I just saw and give a proper comment later on. So much to unpack and it’s just episode 1, I was going to wait and watch each one with you but I think I’m going to have to binge now after that episode!! I need to know more 😊

Audrey Gunn

the finale and then look back through the season and join up my thoughts. All I can say with both those things in mind at the moment is, this is going to either kill me or make me very happy.

Ruth May

I predictably binged the whole of episodes 1-5 yesterday..it’s great being retired from full-time work..and it’s very difficult for me to say most of what I would like to say because of the need to avoid spoilers and also because I really want to watch e

Ruth May

Great reaction Jackie thankyou.

MIchelle Arbery

Don’t apologize. Thank you for the quick upload 🫶🏽

Frances

I’ve been waiting for this so I could watch it with you 😊 hopefully I get the whole thing done before I leave for work.

Audrey Gunn

KLM, haha you caught them all!

Dennis Verner

One of the main plot points, I've felt all along, is that as far as the Queen is concerned, Wille should not be there as Crown Prince. Erik was to be King and the Queen has never gotten over the fact that he never will be. Wille was so unimportant that it didn't matter that he didn't go to the school the entire rest of the family went to. So that picking a regular school may have been his request but I believe, deep down, Wille has always harbored resentment that he was so dismissed. He has made several comments along the way that have reinforced that feeling for me.

Dennis Verner

See if you will catch the repeat of "Jag kan inte göra det här längre" (I can't do this any more) later on too.

Dennis Verner

Did anyone else pickup that the red lights in Wille's room was in the shape of a crown. Well it looks that way to me. I know, small detail but I pick these things up. Great reaction as usual ❤️ I agree, very heartstopper kiss and I'm here for it 🙂

Cathy Mills

Oh and “COZY” has now been used in all 3 seasons. I am so obsessed!!!!!

KL M

Also, for timing: it’s probably only been a few days/maybe a week since the jubilee. All 3 seasons are contained within only a few months of the school year. Season 1 is Oct-Christmas Break, Season 2 is New Years to end of Feb/beginning of March. Season 3 picks up almost immediately-Sara’s bed linens/riding trousers are still on the empty bed in Felice’s room, the Court would want to get rid of the police involvement asap, and some of the parties the girls talk about-that are taken away later in this ep-can be used for timing reference as well. So Wille is 16 for the entirety of YR (unless he has his b-day in one of the later eps).

KL M

That wasn’t waffling at all , Jackie. I love your enthusiasm! Thank You

Diane Furlong

Sleep fast Frances

Diane Furlong

I watched this this morning as well, I enjoyed watching with you and seeing your reaction and hearing your thoughts. I picked up on things I didn’t catch the first time, like Sara does what Simon asks, he says get out and the only place she had left was with their dad whom she hates… I don’t really know what I am expecting from the rest of this season, but it is going to be a roller coaster I think, so let’s buckle up, keep your hands and arms inside the car, it’s going to be a bumpy ride…

Erin

Love seeing the boys so happy and in love 😍🥰😘. Have binged all 5 eps twice plus this is my 2nd reactors vid of ep 1. I am obsessed!!!!! Love you Jackie!

KL M

Same here near Cologne 🥰 I've waited for Jackies reaction and finished it now, at 2am 🙈 So, good night! 😴

Prinsassy

I’m operating under the assumption that the comments here are not “no spoilers” because they are a response to the video and therefore it’s assumed that we are commenting after watching the reaction. But I’ll put some spaces after this paragraph just in case. Inasmuch as class is such a major theme of the series, I think anytime class difference is either stated, or even implied, it’s on purpose. It’s understandable that it would be hard for Wille completely let go of some of those class differences, even unconsciously. I don’t think it’s ever stated how long it’s been since the speech when this episode begins, though, my guess is only a matter of days or maybe a week. I’m certain that the entire series so far takes place during one school year, so I’m sure both Wille and Simon were 16 when the video was taken. As far as the reporters talking to Simon, my impression is that when he goes through that gate and down the stairs, he is moving from on campus to off-campus, so that’s why they accost him there. And I have to say that after Simon found Sara’s room empty and we switched to that stairwell, I knew immediately where she was, and who she was about to see. It will be very interesting to see where they go from here with the current situation of basically a lockdown. I’m assuming that because Simon is living at home, the curfew won’t affect him, particularly because he is grounded anyway, and his mother wouldn’t let him out at night.

Lane Wright

Re: set decorating - you should hop over to IG and look up linds_cantrell - she was the set decorator for OFMD S2 and she's got a huge highlight saved of tons of set decoration details from the second season.

Rowan Cannell

To be fair about Wilhelm saying "this is what we want," Simon in Season 1 and 2 made a point about not wanting to be a secret and why couldn't Wilhelm be open about them. So presumably that is what Wilhelm is basing the "we" in that comment on.

Rowan Cannell

Taking my lunch rn so i can watch this!!!! ahhh

Vera Clark

Their passion for each other is out of this world. That scene in Wille’s room made me melt 🫠🫠🫠

Frances

Love this season so far.

Marstrand

That is dedication and I love it!!! I apologise in advance for how much I waffle on and how long it keeps you up!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

It’s almost 1 am in Germany. I binged all five episodes. I have to get up at 5am. But I’m still gonna watch your reaction now cause I can’t sleep anyways 😅
