Sneak Peek - Having fun with WaveNet Voices and App Factory Fixed!

Here's another look (listen?) at how the new voices in Tasker sound :)

Want to give it a try? Get the new version here before everyone else!

Also, for you that wanted to create apps with the App Factory and couldn't because it was broken in the betas, you now can! I fixed it and you can download the compatible app factory here!

Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend! :)

🏳️ In either case, I suppose I will throw up a white flag for this feature. That being said maybe the main caching options could live under the Settings menu. Enable or disable the caching and maybe change the time window. Anything to be kept longer can be configured in the task action and could override the "global" setting.

Brayden Houston

Yeah :) Have to figure out the best way to handle it. Maybe an option to cache it that's on by default? At least that gives the feature some visibility and gives the user an easy way to disable it.

João Dias

Maybe some kind of option to set an expiration? Anything past expiration would be deleted and then recreated if the task is run again. Perhaps an option to keep indefinitely would be nice too. Options are always nice.

Brayden Houston

All past requests are stored... I'm wondering if I should delete them periodically though... :P

João Dias

:O Does it pick up past requests too or just the most recent request?

Brayden Houston

Yeah, if you don't change any setting at all it'll just use a local file. A cache file is created for every single combination you use :)

João Dias

It does? I didn't see any indication of that. I was watching the API usage charts and it was going up with each request.

Brayden Houston

No need to do anything special for this. I'd wait and see what comes of it before going to any extra lengths. I was just curious.

Robert Burton

Hmm, maybe I could just make it like a permission? :) Then you could use the Ask Permission action... It seems weird to add an action just for this...

João Dias

That might work too.. I was thinking more of an action to test it. Something similar to an If AutoTools.app is installed statement. If Google API or something?

Robert Burton

Well, having read it, Tasker actually already does that :D No need for you to cache it yourself!

João Dias

Cool, thanks!

Brayden Houston

Cool! :) Where did you post that?

João Dias

Unless you specify the API key in the action itself, it won't get exported :) And yes, I should maybe add a check in the action and generate a notification if an API key is not set in the action and is also not set in the general preferences?

João Dias

New voices are pretty good. Just threw a little project together on /r/tasker the other day to make make creating and keeping the voices around easier.

Brayden Houston

I really like the voices and it has been fun playing with it so far. I've changed a couple of my tasks to use WaveNet like my Announce the time every hour and my SMS speak and reply tasks. Once the initial setup was done, it had been very easy to use. I'm wondering about exporting projects to TaskerNet if I use the WaveNet action. My API key won't get exported I assume so anyone importing it will need to have it set up also? Is there a way to test if it is setup?

Robert Burton

So what do you think of the new voices? Worth it?

João Dias

Yes! Finally! :) So what do you think of the new voices?

João Dias

Works perfectly!

Brayden Houston

Nice :D Glad it finally works!

João Dias

Woo Hoo!! WaveNet Voices works!! Playing with it now.. Thanks. Hope you have a great weekend!
