New Tasker Pre-Release for Patrons

Hi! :) I've been working on some new stuff and wanted to share it with you before I do so with the rest of the world!

You can download this special version of Tasker here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ELcrc9GHFV64WVYHh00rGw1zMnjB46vv/view?usp=sharing

I plan to release it next week in beta!

Here's the changelog:

Let me know what you think and how it works for you! And remember, this is a secret patron-only release until next week, so keep it on the down low ;)

New Tasker Pre-Release for Patrons

Comments

Ok, thanks. I'll keep trying to figure out what might be happening...

João Dias

Doesn't seem to help so far. Don't see any real difference. I haven't seen anyone else reporting it yet either so it looks like it may just be limited to me. I'll keep watching it to see what happens. Thanks for your time in looking at it though. Always appreciate everything you put into your work!

Robert Burton

Yeah, that's the default. Does it help if you set it to something like 300?

João Dias

It's set to 1500 which I don't think I have ever changed so should be the default I think?

Robert Burton

Thanks! Unfortunately I can't reproduce it! What is the "Service Check MilliSeconds" preference set for you?

João Dias

So, I set another task with an icon to the nav bar and rebooted. The icon did not survive the reboot, but the action does work. Just for the heck of it, I reran the nav bar action again thinking that would put the icon back but the icon still did not show. I'm lost on that one! Had to reset the nav bar to default and then run the nav bar task to get the icon to show back up.

Changing App Check Method back to Accessibility stops %Lastapp from firing consistently but %WIN fires fine then. App Check Method was all that I changed. I've opened five apps since changing it back to Accessibility and %Lastapp has not fired once yet.

Robert Burton

That's interesting! So, to confirm, it doesn't work the same way if you simply change the app check method?

João Dias

Good call! Leaving it as an event and switching App Check Method to App Usage Stats seems to make it fire every time with about a 2 second delay. However, that stops my %WIN variable from working. I only use %WIN to see if my app drawer is open.

Robert Burton

Hhmm, interesting. It does seem very consistent for me. Does the same thing happen if you use an App State condition? (with the App Check Method in Preferences set to "App Usage Stats")?

João Dias

So.. after using this over the weekend, it doesn't appear that it has anything to do with the app in particular. Those apps did show up sometimes. It appears that the %Last app is not firing consistantly or there is considerable lag sometimes. For example, when I opened Gmail to view your reply, it did not fire for Gmail. Then I opened Edge browser to reply and it did not fire again. When I went back to Gmail, it did fire. So.. it just appears very sporadic on my device. Galaxy Note 9.

Robert Burton

Thanks! That's weird. Are you able to create a regular App State profile with those apps?

João Dias

Thanks! Does that happen with any task you put in the navigation bar?

João Dias

One other minor issue. I ran the launch activity for the Last App switch and it added the icon to the nav bar. I rebooted my device and the icon did not show on the nav bar. However, pressing the nav bar where the icon is supposed to be does launch the last app profile though. Galaxy Note 9

Robert Burton

I do seem to be running into some problems with the last app project. Doesn't seem to pick up all the apps for some reason. Such as Sync for Reddit.. it doesn't pick that one up and show the web screen. If I open an app such as Sync and then another app such as Feedly, when I use the nav bar switch app button, it goes back to Tasker instead. Sync never actually showed in the web screen. Google seems to do the same thing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Robert Burton

That's impressive

Mat

Hope you enjoy it! :)

João Dias

That's an impressive list Again!! The last app action looks very intriguing especially combining that with the nav bar! I can see adding some numbers to the nav bar to switch between the last 2 or 3 apps. Can't wait to play with all of this. Thanks for the early access.

Robert Burton

Cool :D Very interested in knowing what interesting ideas you come up with :)

João Dias

Working perfectly now. I didn't realize you could get access to so much information about other apps from Tasker. That list of available variables open up some very interesting ideas.

Ok, can you please try downloading from the same link? :) Should be ok now.

João Dias

Oh yeah, you're right! It doesn't do it on my debug device, but does it on the release one. Will fix ASAP and update the version.I'll let you know thanks :)

João Dias

Same toast shows up even if I select an app in the optional field.

Brayden Houston

App changed event seems to be giving me some issues. Is a new permission needed? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rlVYnJiZPcxo9tMqZ57Icaa5ijmwtU7y/view?usp=drivesdk

Brayden Houston

Haha :D Let me know how they work for you if you can!

João Dias

😍 So many cool new features! I'm not sure what to try first.
