Sneak Peek - New Tasker

Today I'm bringing you something that could be big. You know how some stuff is only available with a rooted device? This release tries to work around that with the new ADB Wifi action!

To use it, you need to connect your phone to your PC and run the adb tcpip 5555 command. After that you can use the ADB Wifi action to run any command that you can run on a PC!

For example, you could

and much more!

There's a big caveat though: every time you reboot your device you need to run the  adb tcpip 5555  command again, so keep that in mind.

To try out this release get the APK here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UfMEt1H6wjlMDdsqByn-flCRqE45PdJ1/view?usp=sharing

Let me know how it works for you! :)

Nice! :)

João Dias

Yes, it works like a charm!

Dennis van der Kwast

also, maybe my profile is not really of general interest ;). I'll do some more testing and contact you separately if i find anything. Or you can write to me as well if you find something. Thank you!

petrus munteanu

oh, I didn't know it can do that. That's cool, too. I tried that now, and apparently it's device dependent because it found 'greyscale_mode': from '1' to '0' on my samsung s10. Unfortunately it doesn't change the greyscale. I also have daltonizer in my secure settings, but that doesn't do anything either

petrus munteanu

You can actually do a comparison like that with the Custom Setting action too! :) Use the magnifying glass to do so. I actually just tried it and for my device it turns out it was the Secure accessibility_display_daltonizer_enabled setting.

João Dias

Yet this is the setting, because i compared the 2 in an android settings export (you can do that with adb). I compared the greyscale settings on with greyscale setting off in a notepad++, and that setting was the only difference - 0 and 1

petrus munteanu

Hhmm, I don't think so, it works just the same as doing it via root... I think that simply changes the grayscale mode though, it doesn't actually toggle the grayscale on and off...

João Dias

i think i've played with that long ago, but couldn't make it work. I've tried it now with Type: System, Name: greyscale_mode, Value:0. No errors, just doesn't greyscale :). Maybe it needs root afterall?

petrus munteanu

Yeah, the Custom Setting action will do the equivalent to that, just not in a shell ;)

João Dias

i've found the shell comand "setttings put system greyscale_mode 0", but i'll look into the custom settings action, as well. Thank you!

petrus munteanu

By the way, the greyscale one is doable with the Custom Settings action I think.

João Dias

Cool! :) Hope those work with this! And yes, you can run adb shell commands with the adb wifi action!

João Dias

i'd also like to kill the media player - right now i pause it with autoinput, but i noticed the app continues to use some battery. Also, i'd like to activate android's text to speech feature, in order to listen to books while on the road

petrus munteanu

for instance i keep my phone in greyscale, but for certain apps i'd like to switch to colour mode (youtube and such). Right now i do it manually, but i've found a shell command which may work. Can you run shell with adb wifi?

petrus munteanu

Cool! :D What are some examples of those?

João Dias

very cool and practical, I have like 10 profiles on standby that needed root :)

petrus munteanu

Ohhh unfortunately I just tried it and it can't be done :( I just assumed it could, but it can't, sorry! Will correct the OP.

João Dias

Today I'm going to test this feature. I will let you know.

Dennis van der Kwast

Yes, sir! Already made a task to list all packages... More to come. 😁

Jay

Nope! They work when you disconnect too!

João Dias

Great work João. Do such actions only work when there is a live ADB connection between phone and PC though?

Sharif Salah

What would the command be?

Tom Hare

Thanks! 😁 Does it work for you?

João Dias

I can't like your reply... Silly patreon app

Mat

So does it work for you? ,😁

João Dias

Yep, that should work too!

João Dias

I wouldn't think so because you need to specially enable this via ADB so people really know what they are doing when using it... It doesn't happen by mistake. But then again who knows what Google's up to 😛

João Dias

Yay! Been wondering if something like this might work! So happy now.

Jay

Wow, awesome!

Dennis van der Kwast

Air plane mode?

Tom Hare

I can see Google question this in future 🤦🏻‍♂️

Mat

Thanks :D It does sound like it opens up a lot of possibilities!

João Dias

Yep, correct! :)

João Dias

This could be a game changer for sure, thank you for the new year's present.

Ezki

That's interesting so basically you emulate the remote connection to android phone?
