I should add that when I listen to tracks composed by Shiro Sagisu, I get a, what do I call it, sensation? Im sure everybody has experienced this, but basically, the strong sense of emotion or memory from listening to a piece of music. One could call that ~sentimental~. When I listen to the soundtracks, its almost as if I'm experiencing distant memories, ones I that may or may not be my own. I experience some sensational trips that are hard to replicate. The fact that these are movie/tv soundtracks will obviously help with visual aid, but I feel and experience more than just what imagery the music is supposed to support. Listening becomes weirdly personal when I hear music from this series, but in an incredibly unique way where I will imagine scenes or memories that are like snapshots will appear in my head. It just FEELS different on the whole sensational experience when listening to music...

2020-05-24 05:41:37 +0000 UTCokay, one really small thing and one really long thing. 1) PLEASE do a video on Yoko Shimomura. im not extremely familiar with her works outside if Kingdom Hearts and even then I am only familiar with a couple tracks, but from what I hear, it's so beautiful. 2) Have you ever seen anything from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series? I used to be a crazy fan and now its just something I like, but one thing I wont let go of from it is the music. Specifically the soundtrack from the movie The End of Evangelion, and there are a couple tracks from the three newer films they've made since the late 2000's. The entire series from the original TV anime series to the new remakes has had the same composer, Shiro Sagisu. There is something really unique that I find in his music that I don't really find anywhere else, at least anything to my current knowledge and music library. When I watch your video on Ghibli music and Joe Hisaishi, it reminds me of the sounds that Shiro Sagisu composes, how there is probably a natively Japanese sense of music to the western classical genre they use. I hear a lot of interesting things when I listen to things from the End of Evangelion soundtrack, and they dont sound like things Ive heard before, or things Im hearing in my music history classes in terms of repertoire. The closest thing I can compare to is some music from the Romantic era, I would assume because there was more use of dissonant tones as well as chromaticism blah blah. And I wonder if it is a result of me having listened to some Japanese childrens folk songs as a kid (I am half japanese), and so that may make me predispositioned to really hear the, I guess, Japanese musical tendencies being integrated with western classical music. This was a lot but I want to know how you, having more background knowledge and resources on music outside of the western classical realm could further expand how people's ears will listen for/to different things according to their upbringing or cultural background. I know this wouldn't be an enitrely new video idea, but given you did the video on Avatar, which focuses mainly on raw, pure forms of music from around the world, perhaps this may spark the possiblity of you expanding on your analysis of Joe Hisaishi's music, and project it onto Shiro Sagisu's music, or perhaps any other examples of composers. Its really interesting to notice these tendencies that may be happening in Western Classical music (more or less from the modern and contemporary era) because everyones ears are different, especially when we notice that each ethnic group or cultural group has their own music they are accustomed to.
