POPPY Stagger REACTION!

Yeah ‘dreampop’ is a descriptor genre that I’ve heard more used in the past couple years, but not sure if this song might be deemed to connect with what it’s generally considered as encompassing iykwim. I listened to Forever Growing Centipedes (the album was released in 2008 for those playing at home ;) I can kinda hear the comparison. Groovy song though. Kinda reminds me in terms of weird sounds also from 2008 some of the songs from The Presets’ APOCALYPSO album (ARIA AOTY 2008). I also get ya about sometimes subsequent listen you understand the rhythm a bit more. Beyonces Single Ladies was a bit like that for me at first for example. Also yeah interpretive dance videos can be interesting. Try by P!nk is another you’ve reacted to that comes to mind. Also there have been some memorable routines in that sortof style performed on the various international versions of the dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance over the years. And yeah like you said this one had that interesting structure where the chorus refrain could be seen as the breather moment to process the bulk of the lyrics in verse.

I’d originally intended to choose an older, pop video from Poppy this month, but when this song and video came out last month I knew I’d be choosing it instead. I love the dreamy sort of music (I’m sure that’s not a surprise), and I also love dance, so this appealed to everything I enjoy. Poppy has a background in dance, too, so I was always hoping she would use it in one of her videos. I tend to interpret the video as her being broken and stuck in a loop, whether that’s in a relationship or just in life, and I can relate to that. Plus I also used to dance as a kid, albeit very, very badly, so I think interpretive dance videos always appeal to whatever part of me made me want to dance. Probably why Elastic Heart is also one of my favorite videos ever. Poppy’s said she knew immediately after writing this song that it had to have a dance video. Given that she’s a trained dancer, I’m not surprised by the dancing so much as the music. She’s definitely not afraid of trying any genre that appeals to her. Lol. Also, her real name is Moriah, and she co-writes all her music, as far as I’m aware. The rest of the EP this song is from was more metal, but this song is the best, imo. I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for continuing to release these reaction videos. It’s always great to hear the guitar, too. I’ll have to check out that song you mentioned. I’ve heard of that band, but I don’t recall hearing their music much. The description of how they created their sound was really interesting though.
