Just to clear up a misconception that a lot of people have who watch the show. You cannot destroy the core. The Philosopher Stone's whole thing is that it cannot be destroyed. Lust didn't die because the philosopher stone got burnt or sth, she died because the energy in the stone was completely drained while trying to heal her. That is currently the only way we know how a stone can be destroyed and how a homunculus can die. So even if Ling found Envy's stone and stabbed it with his sword, absolutely nothing would happen to the stone.
