I agree that Jeff's smoker is a musical instrument, and he should electrify it: http://www.naffziger.net/blog/2008/07/05/the-alton-brown-flower-pot-smoker/ You take the bottom off the Akorn grill and replace it with a thrift store hot plate, a GFCI extension cord and old cast iron pan the same size as the old Akorn bottom. When you want to grill with billowing clouds of salmon seasoning smoke, you just crank up the heat on the hot plate until you have a fire. Want racks on racks of ribs to smoulder - turn down the hot plate and give your kid the job of feeding Akorn wood chips all day long. I've used the Alton method for a decade now and couldn't imagine having a kid, a wife, and the time necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with a traditional smoker/bbq.
