Here's another potential argument: The people who most adore Avatar are people who are not extremely online. All (or most) of the arguments made against the cultural relevance of the film are all very specific to online activity (memes, fan-fiction, etc.). Focusing especially on those metrics kind of cuts out a lot of people who are also part of the culture. Cultural relevance is also your 85 year old grandmother going to see a movie for the first time in 15 years because this is the movie that everyone has to see, right?

2022-10-10 19:57:03 +0000 UTCWent out to see Avatar 3D. Really enjoyed the 3D again. It confirmed for me that the flick was a good ride, but had forgotten how lengthy the sections of Sully learning the Navi culture, traditions, and training. That was a bit of a slog and should've been left for a director's cut. Took my nephews (12, 14) and niece (8) and they enjoyed it as well - though I did notice during those same sections I noted above that they were getting a little restless 😅
