Biggest cons as a user myself are the FOV/Binocular feel for peripheral view. I hear using a shorter facial interface will help but I’m using my default. The other issue is the lens reflections from really bright lights amongst a dark background or high contrast. Produced that god ray type reflection. Apparently you can minimize with light background but doesn’t 100% reduce it.

Just to keep the math corner going: The reason this works is that depth doesn’t matter under pure rotation. Whether something is 2 inches away or 2000 miles, if all you’re doing is rotating the camera they’ll keep occupying the same pixels. It’s only when you move left or right, up or down, that parallax kicks in. Your eyes are separated, so they will notice a little bit of flatness in the same way they already do when they’re watching a 2D movie…but when the panorama is of anything remotely far away (as they usually are) it’s essentially 0 difference even if you had great stereo vision or moved left or right.

Nerd warning: As someone who started a company doing 3D imaging & visualization 10 years ago, I was always flabbergasted why no one bothered to re-render panoramas with the rough intrinsics (focal length, distortion) we get from our phone camera, rather than letting them either be flat or some vomit-inducing fisheye warp. All the data is there to do it! They could have been doing this the whole time! Anyway, I’m glad Apple finally did it

Yes especially if you set the volume louder then the sound leaking is quite apparent

We needed a YouTube link for this

Love love that you guys devoted some time to this—thank you. One question I’ve had but hadn’t seen answered yet: with just the device—no AirPods—can the people around you hear the movie you’re watching?

Mich

since spatial videos are 1080p how different is the experience watching them back on the quest 3 vs the avp?
