Really? Matrix 4 was pretty bad, but Drew Goddard is making the next one.

Peter Tribe

I’d watch Rebel Moon Part 3: The Search for Glowy Princess if you guys did another fundraiser episode with Paul Scheer.

Peter Tribe

Honestly, I’d watch another Rebel Moon before I’d watch another Matrix movie.

Brian Deaton

I’m feeling feisty today, so here’s a hot take: Quentin Tarantino hasn’t made a great movie since Jackie Brown. Fight me.

Dave Epp

Here is my short play of how and why the Rebel Moon movies were made: (Zack Snyder is talking with a close friend right after the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League) Zack: Man that’s awesome! People rallied around letting me make this version and they love the results. Friend: Zack, my dude, um…it wasn’t actually that great of a movie. For one thing, it was way too long. Did you really need 3 verses of the Icelandic ode to Aquaman? What the hell was that?!? Zack: Of course I needed 3 verses, and everyone loved it because of things like that. Friend: I’m sorry my dude, but they didn’t. I hate to be the one to tell you this but a lot of the people who were demanding you release your cut are fanatics who were just delighted they got to flex their collective power. They say they love the result because to say otherwise would mean they may have been wrong to demand the movie in the first place. These are not the type of people who can admit when they’re wrong. Zack: But…that would mean that I could release anything, no matter how bad, and they would eat it up and say they love it. Friend: I’m afraid so dude. Zack: No. No, that can’t be true. I’ll prove that’s not true. I’ve got this Netflix deal. I’ll tell everyone that I had all these great Star Wars movies that I wanted to make but wasn’t allowed to and so I’m going to make them just without using Star Wars properties. Then I’ll make the most god awful space movie anyone has ever seen. I mean this movie will make “Flesh Gordon Meets The Cosmic Cheerleaders” look like high art, and you’ll see they’ll all universally hate it and prove you wrong. Here, I’ll write the script right now. (5 minutes later) Zack: There, the script is done. You’ll see, they’ll hate this. Friend: This seems like a very bad idea, but ok, make the movie and we’ll see. (Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire is released) Zack: My god!!! They loved it. Even 2 out of the 3 reviewers on The Filmcast podcast thought it was ok. Friend: I told you dude. Zack: No, I refuse to believe it. Here’s what I’ll do, I’ll make Part Two, and I’ll make it almost exactly the same as Part One. Friend: Like what, the same main bad guy? Didn’t you kill him off? Zack: So what. I’ll bring him back, and what’s more I’ll have all the characters sit around telling their backstories. It’ll be so dull people will abandon the movie before anything even happens. What’s more is I’ll kill off the characters people really like in completely mundane ways. They’ll revolt in the street and call me a hack when they see this piece of shit. To really egg them on, after I’ve released it I’m going to announce that I’m gonna make 6 of them in total. Hahahahahaha Friend: Dude…this is getting out of hand. Zack: Just you wait…they’ll admit they were wrong. Just you wait.

Dave Epp

The Good: With the spoiler section of the podcast I don’t have to bother watching this movie to know what happens in it. The Bad: THEY BOTHERED TO REVIEW THIS MOVIE AT ALL EVEN AFTER THE FIRST ONE WAS SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT!!! They could’ve reviewed anything and I would’ve preferred it. Give me an hour long review of the new Bluey episode, it would’ve been so much more worth everyone’s time.

Dave Epp

With regards to the Tarantino discussion, I think he has valid concerns. If he was more prolific the law of averages has historically proven true with other filmmakers that there would be more mediocre or even bad movies in his catalogue. It's also a valid concern he has about fading away into mediocrity as his career continues. Yes, there are exceptions like Spielberg and Scorsese, but for every one of those there are at least three other directors historically who kept going way past their prime whose work just wasn't nearly as good or good at all as what came before. Hal Ashby, William Friedkin, John Frankenheimer, Tim Burton, Francis Ford Coppola, Zack Snyder... Okay, I'm being cheeky with that last one (some would argue he's never had a great streak). So, I say, let Tarantino be with his processes and deliberate consideration of his work. He hasn't done us wrong so far with his perspective why complain now?

Jeff Gibson

I'm half joking in my post, but the show should decide reviews based on how many people watch a movie? If that was the case, Missing, a theatrical release, would have been chosen over a streaming movie, "Sick." There's many examples last year and this year where the crew chose a streaming movie over one or more major theatrical releases.

Papool Chaudhari

I tried watching this on the plane. It was so bad - so dumb - I stopped at the wheat harvesting - it was just so stupid. Made no sense a space ship of that size would NEED wheat that bad :) - and I am sure that is the least of the problems with the movie.

Mark Griffith

I don't think either of these could be classed as a direct sequel, nor would they bring in the audiences that the Rebel Moon parts one or two reviews have done.

Gabe Robinson

At the end of the day....Zach Snyder made a movie.

Scott M. Adams

AFAIK the main problem is no one on Netflix side being upfront about using AI to enhance those pictures and audio, and on the other side AI sometimes hallucinates stuff that isn't accurate so the final product may be flat out wrong

Re: the hot criminals of Abigale. It’s worth noting that when I was pickpocketed for my iPhone in Paris the two perpetrators looked like a pair of gorgeous models in their 20s.

Brad Arnold

I don’t fully understand the objection the use of AI enhancement in What Jennifer Did. I understand the objection to AI generation of creative works based on the work of others, but what’s being described here is essentially taking the place of a photoshop filter. What about the composition of this upscaling algorithm being rooted in AI causes concern?

infinite_karate

Ironic the guy who insists on not doing the "end of the day" line thinks Matrix: Resurrections is amazing. Lol

Papool Chaudhari

I like how Devindra brings up the absurdity of a GALACTIC space vessel needing wheat, but then no one talks about the fact that the GALACTIC SPACE SHIP has a giant room full of furnaces? What are they shoveling into these furnaces?!?! Is the spaceship steam powered?!? 🤣🤣🤣

thecrimsoncurse

Dave with the cute criminal erasure! lol jk

Nervous_NRG

So can we expect another full review with the TRU cuts of Rebel Moon are released? Why not? You said you were going eventually be short on new stuff due to the strikes. Just sayin’.

Olivia Oliver

Thanks!

Brian

Please! Stop!! NO MORE!

Chris Ssentongo

This was great fun. Thank you guys!

Marc Sontowski

Is it wrong of me to want six or eight more of these or whatever to hear you guys fight over and over again about who hates these movies more and for the right reasons? 😂

John Halski

Hey guys, Regarding how names "should" be said: you are 100% right to ALWAYS go to the source, and trust nothing else. Guessing a pronunciation based on some amateur genealogy is just as risky as trying to sound it out arbitrarily. Example from me own life: we have a popular ice cream chain here in NYC called Van Leeuwen. having learned a small amount of backpacker's Dutch, and thinking I was being very clever, I consistently referred to the ice cream chain as "Von LEE-wuh". fast forward several years, when an interview with the founders shows up on my feed. to my surprise, they conistently refer to the store as "van LOO-win". suffice to say, I felt like an idiot strutting around town for years pretentiously mispronouncing the name instead of doing 60 seconds of homework

Mark

Not to beat a dead horse, but Devindra - it’s pronounced Mc-eye: https://youtu.be/xd79cFdq3z8?si=uQOitJFD5ltUfpI8

Gabe Robinson

Guys. Guys. He just needs to get his cut out there. 🤣

"We have to review Part II since we reviewed Part I." Missing, the follow up to Searching (2018 main review and Jeff Top 10 film), and Girls State, the follow up to Boys State (2020 main review with guest Roxana Hadadi) both say hello! LOL

Mountain of Conflict

This is about last week's episode, but I hope somebody tells Rian Johnson that David used to develop pictures of himself in his dorm room.

Mountain of Conflict

Starting off strong, Dave.
